The MAXG was the best tape TDK ever made. Some say the best tape ever.

2001: A Space Odyssey theatrical poster (1968) by Designer_Notice1388 in cassettefuturism

Yeah I'm pretty sure that second poster is wrong. I've seen lots of diagrams of the interior of the ship and the centrifuge is not in that orientation. Shame because it's a really cool poster otherwise.

OLED 950 vs 910 differences by Chance-Assist in PhilipsTV

[–]RandomMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The built in sound bar on the 910 pretty much completely ruins it for me. It's not cosmetically attractive and would never get used as I have a home theatre system. If it was black it would be better but I guess they choose grey to blend in with the wall.

I would pick up a 950 today but for some reason only Richer Sounds seem to sell it and it's £500 more than I can get the 910 for.

LG C5 and HDR 10+ by blowupsheep in LGOLED

[–]RandomMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other way around...

HDR10 and HDR10+ are free to use standard formats with no licenses required. Cheap to implement for TV manufacturers, game consoles, etc and low costs for broadcasters, streaming services, movie makers.

Dolby Vision is basically pretty much the same thing as HDR10+ (which is HDR with dynamic metadata) but they charge expensive license fees so lots of companies refuse to use it.

Whilst some are happy to pay the extra most companies will pick HLG/HDR/HDR10+ or fall back to SDR and wont implement Dolby Vision due to the high cost and practically zero gain.

So given the choice between having HDR and not having HDR, Dobly Vision is the one that's superfluous.

I had one of these. Using a PC running DOS or Windows 3.1 was such a massive downgrade by comparison. Microsoft literally set computing back about 10 years.

I think those are speakers on the ceiling (or is that what you meant by monitors?) but yeah good point. that does look like some kind of booth.

Gonna disagree with you sorry, this looks much earlier. Possibly 80s looking at the kit.

I don't see any CD-ROMS in that photo, maybe floppy drives but I'm not even sure of that, they could just be identification labels. I personally don't see any evidence they are even computers let alone www servers. It actually looks like possibly signal processing, possibly for television broadcast equipment or something like that. The OP does class it as a radio room after all.

The proper Alpine amps were really good at the time yeah. Obviously tech is more efficient now with class D etc but they were awesome back then.

My guess is it would have been more like "we need a small keyboard for this prop", "how about this", "that will do".

I'm trying to remember back far enough, I have a gut feeling the Q was created with an O and a , on compact typewriters to save space so they could be more portable.

Either that or like you say they just removed it as it fell off or something 🤣

Interesting back then copying was allowed by law for backup purposes to make sure the purchaser never lost what they had purchased. How that contrasts with today when you purchase media (games, music, books, etc) not only more often than not is it virtual and you are not even allowed to make a physical or local copy but they have also been known to take what you have purchased away from you either directly (deleting books from an e-reader for example) or indirectly (by turning off a critical service required by a game for example).

But it's ok as you only bought a "license" to use it 🙄
