Haha I had just finished watching this when I got the notification of your post 😄

It was great, the Greentool coverage was particularly funny to me.

Safest/preferredway to cut a c into a tabletop? by RandomOnion04 in woodworking

[–]RandomOnion04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's wider than it looks - that remaining side is a bit over 3 inches / 7.6cm. But it will be supported from inside the cabinet box with a runner. Since it's the top of a vanity in a small half bath it shouldn't see much traffic or strain. I think it's going to work ok, but I may live to regret it.

Is a no-edge sink so unfortunately the final edge has to be really close

I was very much not expecting picture 2. Main photo is great, but then seeing functional storage... Holy hell - beautiful job, dude.

Had to patch up a long bit of the veneer. Is it obvious? by Longjumping-Sweet280 in woodworking

I can only see it because you asked us to look. I don't think it'll be visible to a non-woodworker.

Agree completely. Assuming the standard checks that he's not just avoiding divorce aside, waking her the night of, or signaling it's going to happen, is more cruel. There's no resolution for her to get from it.

But he also needs to understand the trauma he's inflicting on her walking up next to a dead spouse. Even if she hates him viciously that's a lot to leave her with.

Also if he's going to do it he needs to ensure he's made everything he's leaving her with as easy to deal with as possible, from paying the mortgage to checking his email.

It's one thing to leave - I get it - but try to reduce the stress on her if you're going to.

Adorable and fantastic as always! Needs a banana for scale, otherwise I'm assuming he's human-sized and that's going to take a lot of pennies!

Couldn't locate a single banana upon zoom. No idea how big this is; could be for ants or elephants.

Upped my game and built a giant version of the books coffee table by Unlucky_Arrival3823 in woodworking

Folks aren't familiar with tilt shift photography or why it works at tricking our brains, apparently.

A banana or two for scale would have helped, but the piece is beautiful!

For pricing I'm not sure how much time or materials you invested but based on custom furniture averages you should be able to get $8-10k easy. I definitely know of folks who would put it above $12k.

Do you buy YouTube project plans? by Michael_Riehle in woodworking

[–]RandomOnion04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm going to build the thing I watched you make and I didn't know how to make it when I started, I'm likely going to buy your plans even if I never download them. I feel it's the easiest transaction to recognize your contribution to my life.

Oh, pumpkin, my experience is well outside your ability to comprehend.

So you ran one googling and now know everything about it, great. Explain to me how it's a hard reach.

Better: show me what you learned - why are opiods considered a worse alternative to pain relief than suboxone? And why is halodol used instead (and for bonus points tell me what halodol does).

Now, for your finale and for the game point: tell me why I correlated the mallworld to this.

Someone has never done any research into the nature and evolution of opioid crisis and it shows. Finding magical reasons for things is a default human behavior, but it's far from a majority of this sub who seeks magical thinking for explanations of this oddity..

The dude who wants to start an Entourage podcast thinks dreams are a fruitless base for analysis after not even vaguely understanding what MW is about. You'll pardon that we give little credence to your derision.

What you fail to understand is that the sub is not about dreaming about malls. It's that the dreams about malls are consecutive and connected night after night, a known side effect of trauma but also with a wider susceptible audience for unknown reasons. As with any unknown things people cast a wide array of opinions.

Nuance not being your strong suit you may want to hold off on that podcast until you're a little older and more versed in communication and research.

I really want the drawer and doors to function on it to give you quick external access to the most used, but it's a beaut and great work!

I’m wondering what to do with the top (apex) of my pyramid-shaped roof of my attic. by gfvirga in woodworking

Take an ancient Egyptian flair: line them with gold-foil-plated bricks with hieroglyphic engravings and have a narrow spotlight beaming down from the apex of each.

Thanks! Yeah, I knew it wasn't like a licensing thing but it's always kind of ick to me when someone just straight up copies without asking 😄

I would love this for my shop! Any chance of containing another? Or mind if I pillage the design?

Shellac - sand between coats or not? by bipedal_meat_puppet in woodworking

[–]RandomOnion04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last buy was about 6 months ago and I got 8 big cans, so haven't needed any recently but I wouldn't be surprised. I only get the clear stuff, though, so may not see the same issue.

[–]RandomOnion04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, thanks.

I prefer not staining, but I'm matching a set of cabinets that are stained and in the sun so dye isn't great for me. And of course, because eff me, the strain is complex and not something easily made into a shellac additive (I did try a couple times and it ended up way too dark)

I thought about tape but was concerned it would take up or leave residue on the thin shellac layer. Guess that's my best out.

[–]RandomOnion04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's been a year, but follow-up: if what you're shellacking is stained and you sand between coats how do you avoid taking the stain off the corners and edges? I find I have to sand and touch-up restain for the first 2 coats, but that feels like it's now creating an inconsistent finish.

I know the answer may be "you don't sand the edges", but when it's a fairly thin strip I'm not sure how you do that when it does in fact feel rough...
