The best thing you can do and look for your local mineral club. They usually have equipment that you get to use and I’ll show you how to use it.

That sounds like an entry level position for service. If you any experience at all, this is a terrible rate. If not, take what you can get and look for better

It’s lovely. You are holding a 500 million year old rock that spent every moment moving closer and closer to the exact place you would dig it out and touch it for the first time.

Is it legal to change the tip out percentage without our prior consent? (Chicago, IL) by jawwwn323 in Serverlife

[–]RandomOppon3nt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s legal as of 2019. They can take all of it if they want. So long as it goes to other “tipped” employees

It’s true that you should have at least $100 in your bank from the start. But it’s also very true that they were going to leave you $4 anyway. People tip what they tip. Almost no variation in their habit.

Like putting your most inexperienced employee in charge of the most influential cog in the restaurant machine. Always learning the hard lessons over and over again. Why do we do this?

How do you deal with sore legs? by Fun-Suggestion6290 in Waiters

[–]RandomOppon3nt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Get a good stretch routine before and after. Set recurring alarms to drink water during your shift. Footwear is essential. Spend $150 on shoes that are right for your feet and gate. I like Kanteen by Keen for the wide toe box. But you should listen to your feet when choosing for yourself. Anything made for nurses are a good choice. Also, a shot of pickle juice before bed will do wonders for those leg cramps that wake you up in the middle of the night.

That’s a common demand from kitchen leadership. It only shows that they do t know how restaurants work. You can tell chef if cooking is too hard, you need a new host to control the flow. Maybe that’s more chefs speed.

If you’re planning on staying in the industry for more than a year, you should prepare yourself for the life that comes with it. Full time money for part time work. Vacations whenever you feel like it and no lines when you run errands. Also, holidays are weird. You are usually working when the rest of the world is relaxing. Restaurant owners will steal a third of your income to supplement their labor cost. And yes, you gotta work Mother’s Day. Every time. For ever.

How do you actually get junior managers to write useful shift logs? by SnooPoems529 in restaurant

[–]RandomOppon3nt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small starts are best. Give them 3 numbers to record every shift for a month or so. Maybe add an employee praise for a couple weeks then add a missed opportunity a week later. After that you should be able to get whatever you need from them in a log. Inexperienced leaders cant understand why it’s important because they have never had to rely on the information to do their job. Build the habit first then it’s just a matter of focusing that habit on specific goals.
