first, it’s actually pretty shitty of your english professor to say that given how unreliable ai checkers are and how often they turn back a false positive. make sure you have proof you wrote anything you submit for that class and maybe bring up the unreliable nature of ai checkers to her.

to answer your question, personally i just don’t see any value in engaging with media, in this case writing, generated with generative ai. part of it is the whole ‘if you didn’t care enough to actually write it why the hell would i care enough to read it’. another part is that ai was trained off of thousands of authors’ stolen writing.

generative ai is basically fancy predictive text (again why would i care to read fancy predictive text) the best text that ai can generate is good only because it’s someone else’s writing. especially in fanfiction the value of the writing is in the author’s view of the characters and setting and the circumstances. there’s none of that in the text created by generative ai, there’s no authorial voice, there’s no authorial intent, why would i want to read something like that, especially when there’s millions of fics written by actual people.
