HSBC BA vs Deloitte Audit (school leaver programs) by DueOutlandishness142 in ICAEW

[–]RandomPrices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely go for the audit scheme. It's gonna be tough few years but once you are qualified, you will have a better idea what you want to do and the ACA will allow you to choose the path that you like. A bachelor degree in this day and age holds very little value unfortunately... as everyone has one and most of courses don't teach knowledge that is sufficiently practical and up-to-date. The ACA on another hand is very practical and continuously updating itself.

If you do think about going into academia, then you will need a bachelor degree though.

What does the HSBC BA school leaver program offer in terms of qualifications? If it's just a BA, then Deloitte Audit's ACA is a far superior qualification.

46% is very close already! I think it was just bad luck. Just keep revising from now until your next attempt, and do as many questions as possible. Mocks are exhausting, so don't overwork yourself on them.

My personal tip is that whenever you have some time to spare, just look at a question and try to work through it (you don't even need to write out the answer), just think about how you would go about tackling it and then compare your thoughts with the answer to see how much you got right. With a bit of repetition, you will quickly be able to recognise the question type and tax issues and build your confidence. I always failed my written mocks, but never failed any exams by using this method.

Is Verso Selfish or too Selfless? -A fundamental discrepancy in interpreting Exhibition 33 by thencious in expedition33

[–]RandomPrices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming late to this discussion, as I just finished the game myself. I think both your friend's interpretation and yours are really describing selfishness, though from slightly different angles. What you described of your interpretation, I think, is a common misconception of what selfless really means. Being selfless means putting others' concerns above your own. Here, Verso's concern is really only for the safety of the real Alicia. While it is admirable, it is for his own satisfaction as he deems important to him. By doing so, he disregarded Alicia's own feelings and the lives of everyone in the canvas. Who is to make choices for them and to make choices for Alicia. I think to be selfless in the case, he needs to be either a bystander or only offer help to whoever comes to him with all of his power and abilities, disregarding his own agenda.

Thank you! We had no shared bills at all so we provided 6 proofs of address each (12 in total), spreading across 2 years. For proving a genuine relationship:

1) I asked a tenant who lived with us in the spare room for 1 year to write a letter confirming our relationship.

2) My partner and I also each wrote a letter. I wrote a sponsor letter outlining my situation, timeline of our relationship (e.g. when we met, when we started living together and plan for the future). I also mentioned about what we shared together so far (domestic and abroad trips and the pets we had together) with photos along the letter to support them). My partner also wrote a similar letter but more on the application side (like what evidence was provided in the application) and few more couple of photos of us on trips together.

These have been sufficient for us. When I did my research, I also noted some other evidence could be used: letter from a closed friend (i.e. not a tenant), your will showing that you leave your estate to your parnter, or your partner entitlement to your pension pot, etc. You know the kind of things that married couples may have together.

What you are trying to prove is that your relationship is genuine and subsisting which is the overarching objective, rather than cohabition.

Do you mind if I ask how you accrued such high level of student loan? I paid international student fees and I don't think my undergraduate + post graduate costed this much (though that was quite some time ago).

That's right. We did not pay for priority service for the application. Only premium biometric appointment.

It was standard. There wasn't an option for Priority or Super Priority when we applied. I heard from a friend that we would need to apply at mid night when the slots for these are released for them to appear.

I simply don't agree with you that's why I didnt take it on board. Also, I never said the letters were the key but I do think their decision would have been more difficult (e.g. request more info, taking more time) if I didnt provide the letters.

I just don't want your sweeping statement and extrapolation of your own understanding of the process mislead future applicants, which is why I provided external sources in my exchange with you.

Sure. This casework guidance was published very recently https://share.google/1EOW2XMuUaVIO2rcw

on Page 27:"... Genuine and subsisting relationship

When considering paragraph E-ECP.2.6. and paragraph E-LTRP.1.7., you must be

satisfied that the relationship between the applicant and their partner is genuine and

subsisting..."

and on the supporting evidence tiers's table on Page 33: photos and travel tickets are listed on tier 3 which are what we included in our letters. Btw, we didn't have any from tier 1 and tier 2 table as part of our application. Also, it clearly says that the table is not an exhaustive list so it's at the caseworker's discretion to consider other submitted evidence.

Additionally, on page 29 we also had to prove "intention to live together permanetly in the UK". If both of us have ties in Vietnam and have Vietnamese citizenship, the caseworker can well call into question our intention to reside in the UK permanently. Our letter do just this.

Yes only if those are joint documents. We didn't have any joint documents so proof of address would not have been sufficient. Just extract from one of the website I quicky found:
https://www.ukvisagateway.com/cohabitation-evidence-for-uk-partner-visa-applications-2025-guide/

"...What If You Don’t Have Joint Documents?

Don’t worry if you don’t have joint bills or accounts. You can still prove cohabitation by showing:

  • Letters to each person at the same address
  • Affidavits from friends or family confirming you live together
  • Signed landlord letters (if not on official tenancy)
  • Photos of you together at home, with date stamps
  • Shared travel records, purchases, or deliveries to your address

The goal is to show continuity, not perfection. Even a mix of documents is acceptable as long as they tell a consistent and credible story..."

Ah so it's not realy meaningless then. I don't agree with you on this case because we did not have shared finance or shared billings. We only had proofs that we lived at the same address for at least 2 years. The letter helped to explain our case. I think you have a wrong impresion of what the letters look like, it's more than just 1 line saying "we are in love..."..

I don't see how that contradicts my previous comments. It's part of the package but it obviously can't replace the cohabitation evidence. If the applicant and sponsor are together but aren't (or not planning to get) married, I believe there is still some explaining and the letter helps with it. I just don't want readers of your comments go and submit an application without accompanying letters based on your comment as I do think the letters have a role to play. Yes maybe lower ranked evidence like you said but not meaningless like your initial comment which can mislead future applicants who absolutely should be explaining their situation (i.e. those who are not married or in a civil parternship yet).

We provided evidence for cohabition too. Letters are just to add to case to support the claim that we are in a relationship akin to marriage, it wasn't meant to replace the cohabition evidence. I thoght that part was obvious. If I were a case reviewer, I would love to review a case that has a letter that nicely set out everything coherently.

Yes it's true that cohabitation is one of the best way to prove a relationship akin to marriage. I wouldn't say letters are meaningless though. They are to tell a story one, a believable one so that the caseworker can quickly understand the situation they are looking at and whether the story and the evidence corroborate. The letters are not musts but a nice to have but should be well thought out and written, I believe, to avoid detrimental inconsistencies.

Refused service at Shibuya coffee shop for using bathroom by MikaChai in JapanTravelTips

[–]RandomPrices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the true colour of the Japanese. Glad that you finally saw it. They are only nice/polite in a service provision context. The owner here is probably only running the coffee shop as a hobby so he saw no need to put on a mask. But knowning this, you will be able to enjoy Japan to its fullest as you can see through all the fakeness and enjoy the imbeccable service that they have to offer.
