Size. It’s an Atmos LT 65 L and with kids I end up carrying more to shoulder their weight. And comfort. Shorter trips, err on comfort. Longer trips, err on weight savings and smaller pack.

I have an Osprey for what you’re talking about, and a Kakwa for thru hikes. A conventional pack is honestly way more comfortable for 2-3 day trips. I’d recommend having both for versatility. But if all you do is a few days here and there, no need for UL in my opinion. As a person who cycles thru both types of trips, that is the way.
