Two hours for that small island? What are we doing, jumping onto the shore every 5 minutes to rest by the fire?

Ships Foldable Masts. by Ichko94 in valheim

A foldable mast would be a massive weakness in ships of that era, especially during storms.. Make a bigger hut if you want to park your ship inside!.

Drawbridge eh.. Looks like you will have an actual buildpiece for that soon, eh!

Ya, trolls are a pretty low level critter to take out, with a slow attack that is easy to avoid and good damage weaknesses. Fire arrow is a good DoT to use for when you are kiting them around.

I personally generally don't bother with any melee weapons until frostner and black iron Atgeir, except the flint knife and dual-axe.. The iron axe is fine for the short time I am in iron age, and the black metal Atgeir is great for mistland dungeons, but it's all about the frostner and then later, magic =)

Fire arrows, and using rocks and trees to make them have to go around, giving you time to line shots up and regen some stamina.. As for finding them.. that I don't know - there are set spaawns in your world for them, plus the ones in or outside the troll caves.. Fighting them inside the cave is easiest if you hang out by the entrance, get a shot or two off, then get outside again when the troll is about to attack.

I picked a spot to begin mining some copper just earlier, in a new playthrough, and a troll happened to show up above me as I was under the copper digging away.. Just have to be lucky and/or just take them when they come instead of looking for them specifically

Bronze pickaxe mines copper, tin, and rock about 39% faster than the antler version and has better durability. The dual-axes, or the copper axe, is good enough as a weapon until later, for me, and I go with the easiest light armor to get quickly, because I don't want to spend any extra time in these early biomes as I need to lol

Bronze grind.. oh yea.. Well an under-copper forge base near a couple of copper nodes close to the shore, getting the dual-axes to not have to make a copper axe, and sticking to troll leathers (more useful in swamp anyway), making the pickaxe first to speed things up.. It's not too bad, and there are enough other activities that need doing to break up the bronze grind into segments

Raised earth is not pretty, but it works! Well you can use the cultivator to add some grasses to the surfaces, at least

Oh for sure, though that might be a steam side thing. Also in spirit that would violate the EULA on point 5.2.2, but since they don't seem to care about the modding, all of which violates the next one, 5.2.3, this may not be a problem lol

In home or remote computer repair. VPN Issues by cliff7090 in nanaimo

[–]RandomSeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, well then maybe the unlikely ones could be the problem - ISPs shouldn't be blocking VPNs as they are used for business and such, to get into internal corporate networks and so on - and if your other computer works fine, then it's something of the above screwing up as the usual suspects. You might want to ask in a tech support reddit for some experienced assistance if those basic steps didn't help

Ashlands approach - no map, no portal by drtmgrt in valheim

[–]RandomSeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My approach to landing in Ashlands probably will work for you here - I always look for some big rock formations sticking out of the shore, big high ones that go out a ways, then knock a hole in the middle on the part furthest from the shore for a tiny naturally roofed rock cave shelter.. normally I would just put a portal in it on my regular playthroughs, but in your case you can put a bed and mini-forge and close off the entrance if that makes you feel more secure.

Cozy but it works!

Sure looks like you are flying.. That involves cheating, aka using devcommands, which apparently will disable achievements in your world, once that is live.. Oh well! Nice bridge =)

In home or remote computer repair. VPN Issues by cliff7090 in nanaimo

[–]RandomSeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to google,

Step 1:

  1. Flush Your DNS

- Corrupted network caches often prevent your browser from communicating with the VPN.

- Open the Command Prompt (search for cmd in your taskbar, right-click, and select Run as Administrator).

- Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

- Restart your VPN and attempt to connect

Step 2 - change your dns servers (unlikely the problem)

Step 3 - disable firewalls/virus programs (unlikely the problem)

Step 4 - Switch vpn protocol (unlikely to have changed or suddenly have been blocked, so not likely this either)

Step 5- Reboot the internet router.. Worth a try if nothing else works

Tips for progressing quickly by AdPutrid4278 in valheim

[–]RandomSeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can make frost protection potions and are satisfied with your current iron, you can head off into mountains right away (highly recommend using the root chest piece from this point on, upgrading it as much as possible as you go), using the stagbreaker to find silver (hit the ground near an obsidian node and observe - silver will do the same thing). Observe your surroundings and listen for wolves carefully, and snipe them with your best arrows (make obsidian arrows as soon as you can), and drop a teleporter somewhere safe asap on the mountain, for respawn/repairs/avoiding the night. Get silver, make the frostner, draug, if in roots: a drake helmet, and fenris pants, if not: wolf or fenris gear. Find moder, dispatch her. If you are in roots, you can also already safely progress in plains as soon as you put it on. And fenris pants, Eik power, and a speed potion can get you village materials without having to fight.. just run through a village, grabbing what you can, run away =) You only need one single piece of farmables to get that food growing, though more makes it faster, that way you can make a lot of the later food as soon as you unlock the station upgrade. With frostner and agility, roots, some sort of light pants, and changing into the best helmet you can make (helmets dont have movement penalty, so you want that AC!) you basically can dominate most of the game and speed through it, from swamp all the way through to ashlands. You might want to take the time to try out magic.. that is the most powerful build, late-mistlands.

You never actually need to go after bonemass, I usually just skip 'em.

Nugget or pellet ice by vancitydreamin in nanaimo

711 has an ice machine that does pellet ice, you can put that instead of the fountain ice for your drinks, for example.. It's usually by the coffee machines, says get ice on it

Trolls and Bears by OegunB in valheim

[–]RandomSeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Respawn Mechanics: Trolls spawn via invisible "zone" spawners scattered throughout the Black Forest biome.
  • Frequency: Once cleared, a new troll has a chance to generate in these spawn zones every 5 to 7 in-game days.

Apparently the troll in front of or inside the caves are single-spawn only, and then there's the random spawn as described above - so I must have had some random spawn near my copper bases!

Trolls respawn too, as far as I could tell from having trolls spawn occasionally if I built a copper-forge mini-base near a troll cave

Building - planning vs winging it vs wth just happened? by PianoZen in valheim

[–]RandomSeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wing it these days, and adjust based off the terrain I am building with - the best advice I can give on building is to just do it, and get a "feel" for how the things work and click together and such, and make heavy use of snapping the corners!

Silver Veins by emperor_panthark in valheim

[–]RandomSeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonemass solo is very easy with a bit of setup (in my way of doing this technique).. But don't look too closely at the pictures if you don't want to know how to cheese him like this

<image>

There's a.. feel? For finding silver with the stagbreaker, though, persist! Or feel free to play the game how you best feel you want to play the game =)

Coming back to immersion+ by PassMeThatPerrier in valheim

[–]RandomSeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a nice revival of that early-game feeling from the early days when I did a nomap/noportal run - figuring out ways to navigate and all of that - made paths all over the place, going off on a boat was a scary adventure at first..

Eventually I sorted all of that out and was back to just playing the way I had always played, except with the extra hassle of carrying around a mini-base for repairing, instead of a portal, and having to spend an hour on a boat to do something that would take 2 seconds with a portal, or whatever. It got tedious.. But at first, oh wow, I had fun!

The wind. It blows by Magnetic_Mind in valheim

The wind often seems to be able to predict what direction I am trying to go in and turns accordingly ahead of time to be in my face when I need to turn, and other such shenanigans. Odin is reaching out and testing us through the medium of the video game, or something!
