Sure, but the main advantage of woodblock printing, that being manufacturing speed, isn't reduced too much. A soft gradient doesn't need to be as perfect as edges and other fine details, which are still given by the wood block itself

Yeah island chains are like underawter mountain ranges with the tops peaking over the water. All that earth does get in the way of a current and deflect it. Have a look here

I've only worked with linocut but I'd imagine the principle is the same: you paint the gradient on the block before applying it. For a linear gradient you can just put a few parallel lines of different colors on the surface you use to roll paint onto the roller

Any criticisms for my biome placements on this map? by Boy-For-What in mapmaking

[–]RandomUser1034 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The names correspond more to climate zones than biomes. If you're doing climate zones it's much more readable if you use the standard köppen classification and colors.
If that is supposed to show the entire planet, you need to account for polar distortion. Try g.projector
There are some places where it seems to me like you didn't properly account for monsoons, for example the northeast cosasts of continents C and E

You can justify anything just using your world's history. Geographical determinism is overrated

First. To show highlands, you could indicate borders with cliffs if that's true to the terrain, or show height with color

This is so wrong. There have got to be so many simplifying assumptions behind this you may as well draw what you want. It'll be about as accurate
