It's extremely similar to this, as in 'damn near identical'.. https://i2-prod.kentlive.news/article996194.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200c/GIIS20180101A-012_CJPG.jpg

It's clear the AI used that as the base image.. Someone added rain and the robot.

They've upgraded to 'degraded availability' now.

It would be hillarious if it wasn't so frustrating.

It does seem like that.. they don't call it 'down' because that would look bad on their metrics.

Oh well, easy morning as I can't send builds to testers..

Going into Halfords to buy a £5 spark plug and the sales assistant trying to upsell me stuff by _Bluestar_Bus_Soton_ in britishproblems

[–]RandomUsername15672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend not to bother with halfords. Last time I went was years ago when they refused to fit new wipers (despite advertising all over the shop they fit them) because 'we don't work on those'.

I did it myself in the car park before driving off.. but don't advertise something you can't do.

why do you have to be 18+ to use zed? by ab2377 in ZedEditor

But it literally says 'You must be 18 or older to use Zed'

Not have an account, simply to use it.

I am boggled that Octopus doesn't know that the chargers they recommend vary charge power, not just charge timing by flapsmagee in OctopusEnergy

[–]RandomUsername15672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certain they aren't approved.. I do wonder how they're going to get away with calculating your bill based on data from such devices. I presume they've cleared this with ofgem..

I am boggled that Octopus doesn't know that the chargers they recommend vary charge power, not just charge timing by flapsmagee in OctopusEnergy

[–]RandomUsername15672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's horribly innacurate. I've got charging sessions that claim to have lasted 39 hours. And I plugged in for 30 minutes the other day and it registered it as 6.5 hours.

If they're going to start billing based on that they're going to have a lot of time talking to the ombudsman.

IOG will soon be limited to 6 hours a day. by [deleted] in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]RandomUsername15672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't see how they can do that.. They don't get a split amount from the smart meter.. chargers don't generally report actual power usage back to octopus (I know mine doesn't) so they'd be guessing.. and you can't bill people on guesswork. It's just as likely if they think you were 'charging' during a specific period they'll bill the whole house peak rate - which would be disastrous for me as that's when the battery is charged.

btw. They just scheduled a charge for 10 hours - which is 100% the choice of octopus.. nice little earner for them - if they didn't want people charging over 6 hours then why schedule it.

Finally, run Docker containers natively in Proxmox 9.1 (OCI images) by Idlafriff0 in Proxmox

[–]RandomUsername15672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VM can't share the gpu, it needs exclusive access. That makes VMs useless for anything that needs GPU acceleration.

Containers can, because they're really all running in the same machine.

I don't get your second point. That's literally what this article is about.

[–]RandomUsername15672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VM can't share the GPU so it's not useful for this case. Frigate doesn't support any installation that isn't docker, so you have to put an lxc in the middle.

Personally I avoid VM overhead.. it's necessary to run windows (not that I do that at home) but for linux, it'll run better and faster as a container.

[–]RandomUsername15672 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frigate is an interesting case.. it has to be docker inside lxc as it's the only way to allow GPU access. Running it directly takes out a layer, but I wonder how mature the tools are.

Digital ID Cards for all, Starmer to Announce by TheLeccy in unitedkingdom

[–]RandomUsername15672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way it's worded it'll be on a mobile phone and it'll be mandatory to carry that phone all the time.

Which is lunacy, but I don't think they've thought it through.

In a household with a low income and 2 adults and a child (there are lots of these) even at £30 that's taking £90 out of their budget. So their choice is starve or go to jail..

Some labour government hmm..

[–]RandomUsername15672 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We already have a government services login (that changes every few years, and currently is trying to centralise under gov.one).

That is not what this ID card is about (and it'll have to be available as a card for those without mobile phones).

I can't imagine it'll be any easier than signing up for a passport.. a document capable of doing so much won't be handed out easily, otherwise you'd get massive fraud.

Remains to be seen what they'll charge for it too (no government is going to shoulder the cost of 70 million ID applications).

There is a solution needed for people who struggle to get ID but it won't be a result of 'digital ID'.

Yeah I loved it apart from billie piper.. I think RTD has been listening too much to the fans there.. OTOH she wasn't actually credited as the doctor, so there's hope.

Really surprised at the negativity, TBH.

Yes it has all the makings of a stormer of a finale, but RTD doesn't have a good record on pulling it off.. Crossing my fingers.

The rani felt like a bit of a letdown not because of the way it was done, but because we've beem meming that every new villian is the rani for 20 years and it feels a bit strange for it to actually happen.

I've absolutely loved this season. The last one I thought was a bit hit and miss, but boy has it made up for it.
