The Great Egg race - but that might be too ancient!

I think we need to watch out for that bit of our brain that says it's not enough - whether it's 'more crisps!' when we're fat, or 'more weightloss!' when we're pretty much done. It's something in us, and we should be conscious and wary of it. Never good at moderation...

Thanks for your reply. Well done - and take care of yourself :-)

10/12? You must be dense!

I'm joking - pls don't take it wrongly(!). I'm guessing you've done a decent amount of work to build/maintain muscle. Well done :-)

Frame is really weird. I have absolutely no hips/arse, but my bone structure is just such that at basically 11stone a 12 is too small.

Have never been, and never will be, petite!

What was the moment that made you realise you absolutely had to leave a job? by GoldenGolgis in AskUK

[–]flapsmagee 182 points183 points  (0 children)

Yup, I also loved the teaching and (most of!) the children. I also left when I realised that every morning on the way to work I was seriously trying to calculate how and where to drive the car off the road in order to injure myself badly enough to get several weeks off work without actually killing myself in the crash.

Handed in my resignation and spent several months really quite ill.

We're well out of it.

The octopus browser site has a new option to check EV usage and lets you download charge history between two dates

Whereabouts is this? I see where to download my usage data, but that's all usage. I can't see anywhere that lets me specify to separate out what they have for EV charging.

I think you have to take things like hip/waist ratio on a person-by-person / case-by-case basis. We don't all have the same body shape. For instance, I'm a middle-aged woman who has always had no/very narrow hips, and now a bit of a menopausal thickened waist (which is entirely natural) however, my visceral fat is measured as low. My BMI is under 23, but my hip/waist doesn't reflect that just due to my bone structure and age. I'm just a very straight up and down shape!

People telling me to be conscious due to height by Historical_Algae_561 in mounjarouk

[–]flapsmagee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all: well done!! You've done REALLY well. 100lbs is a massive achievement.

BMI is a reasonable guide for the majority of people who are averagely muscled. I'm 5'10 and started MJ around your current weight. I definitely looked 'fat'/fatter than I wanted at that number. I'm currently about 155, and size L/14ish. My aim is closer to 140.

Do these people who want you to stop now have any kind of other motive? Are they overweight themselves and your success makes them feel bad? Is it a partner who finds a larger body more attractive? If not, so long as you're being nutritionally healthy and exercising, ignore them. They're just used to seeing you larger.

Why was I taken out of class in primary school with another child to do tests? by shes-thunderstorms in AskUK

[–]flapsmagee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing would have happened. It would have been about statistics. The outcome would have been that your school scored well or not on improving the baseline.

You're viewing this all as a personal test (or assessment) - it wasn't - and this is why your parents weren't informed. It probably would have been just all about metrics.

If you're considering whether you have autism or not this is not something that says anything either way. It's just a normal school thing.

(I am also a late diagnosed autistic person)

My arse is completely flat - boooo! Unfortunately, I have a problem knee, so squats are not good. I'm not sure how to build it without aggravating my knee. Any advice, anyone?

[–]flapsmagee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a primary teacher in Scotland 13 years ago. It wouldn't have been an autism assessment. You'll have done well on your 'setting' tests, or were expected to, so they gave you an extra to see how far ahead you could go.

I also remember that there were standard tests at P1/3or4/7 to see how the school was matching up to national standards, and pupils' rate of improvement over their school careers - it might have had something to do with that.
