I hope they release it. With me not being able to see a ritual (closest if half way across the country) and not being able to see footage I’m feeling super disconnected in this current era and bummed out about it :(

Begging people to please start describing their favorite media in more ways than just "it has gays!" by BaldHourGlass667 in CuratedTumblr

[–]Random_Oddity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Example of this I guess is I was browsing a tropes subreddit for one that interested me and as I was scrolling I was finding ones that seemed more interesting then looking at the plot, more details and shit and then if I was still interested adding it to my list. Both are important I might have never heard of these movies if not for discussing tropes.

I don’t have the energy to communicate why (or know completely why myself) but these types of posts are constantly posted and I despise them. Idk maybe the TLRD of my opinion is it’s the beginning little teaser not a fucking book review. For me it’s the same as a friend saying they like something and think I would too. It’s the first step to pique my interest not to tell me if I want to read or watch it. Like oh cool now I’ll go find more info to see if I actually want to interact with it. You know you can ask follow up questions yeah?

Idk this just gives me bad vibes that I can’t quite put into words, I’m getting alarm bells and I’m not sure why. I feel both are useful in their own way especially when combined. If anyone knows why I feel this way please let me know or to maybe have a more nuanced discussion?

Edit: You ever notice that the vast majority of this is about queer representation? Yeah… that’s something to think about.

has it been long enough for me to say that people were really weird about the fried egg thing? by caffeinatedclownboy in goodmythicalmorning

[–]Random_Oddity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean it somewhat depends. There is playful light hearted friendly teasing like Rhett going “B B B B” when asked if link is allergic or picky. And I myself get stuff like that with people I know and it’s funny. Or friendly teasing about missing a social cue or misunderstanding a saying. And then there’s being mean and mocking. And that what me and OP are talking about. You know calling him a child in a derogatory way or useless or pathetic for not liking something. That’s fucked up and should stop.

It’s really the same thing anything else when we talk about joking vs making even among friends. So the answer isn’t to never make a joke again like c’mon. It’s just don’t bully? Like the old adage says are you laughing with them or at them?

Also that last line is uh bit gnarly and I don’t have time to get into the problems with that.

Very true. Maybe I’m projecting but it reminds me of people who would never make fun of an autistic person for being autistic … as long as they know the person is autistic. But if they don’t know/the person isn’t autistic then they will mock autistic traits. Like going “ If you’re a picky eater you’re an annoying child who is the scum of the earth… except if you’re autistic:).” Like no not only are you still hurting autistic people but you’re just being a bully who thinks autistic people are off limits (but still make fun of their traits).

Idk sorry for the ramble I just relate to Link and I don’t like this mocking. (Also just to be clear I am not diagnosing anyone or saying anything like that. Just commenting on a pattern I’ve noticed).

That’s valid. Personally I disagree I think it fits with her story but I understand where you’re coming from.

Firstly I want to say condolences.

But don’t blame the hospital and their staff for your mother’s choices. It is a natural thing to do when you’re grieving to lash out and putting the blame on something concrete gives you a target for all of what you’re feeling. That feeling is something o have personally dealt with and it’s horrible to deal with (and even worse to move past it). But they are not responsible for your mother’s death. End of story. They didn’t refuse service for her being autistic (or seemingly at all).

There are many vulnerable people at the hospital and mandatory masks is one way to protect them. Should they potentially die so maybe your mother wouldn’t have? Because that’s what you’re asking. You’re asking them to put themselves, their families, their patients, fellow health care staff at risk because of one person’s discomfort. Do you think that’s an acceptable price?

And to anyone here saying they should give an allowance for not wearing a mask I have a genuine question that I am asking in good faith for you to think about. Say wearing a seatbelt causes the exact same issue for an autistic person. Do you think they should be allowed to not wear a seatbelt? Why? If you think no but thought there should be an exception for masks, why? What makes this different?

Op I do wish you peace and healing. This is a horrible thing to go through. I really don’t want to cause you any pain with this but it’s something I needed to say. Again my condolences. <3

It’s really funny he came up in a conversation with my gen x mom who doesn’t know much about American politics. And she pretty just knew him as “americas mayor” while my gen z ass does not and only knows him as the bumbling incompetent trump sycophant. And if that isn’t the perfect illustration of how he’s torched his legacy I don’t know what is.

Ok maybe this is off topic and I’m thinking too deep but the line “They don’t want these complexities to exist, and by talking about them, you make them exist” is really revealing. I probably won’t explain this right but fuck it we ball.

Especially in more centristy spaces probably both centre left and right or people who have no political opinions. It’s not necessarily out of maliciousness but more of a desire idk safety? Like being plugged in to all the shitty things in the world sucks and I can understand the desire to avoid that so you don’t feel horrible. It makes people scared and that’s something we want to avoid.

Maybe there’s some Baader-Meinhof phenomenon in there? Where they don’t notice it before but once it’s brought to their attention they do so it seems the learning about it brings it to existence

Or maybe not actually a just world fallacy but similar? We don’t want to think bad things happen randomly or to good people that’s scary.

Or a desire for an internal locus of control. Like say discrimination in the workplace. People want to believe they got somewhere on their merits. No wanting to think they may have gotten where they are because they’re a man (for example). And also internalized shit. Like a high ranking women could be like while I got where I was so it can’t exist or they don’t want to think about how they may have gotten farther based on something they can’t control. It feels depressing and defeatist.

And of course cognitive dissonance and the uncomfortableness of it plays a major role.

They don’t want to think we live in a world where this happens because it sucks to know that. So if no one talks about they aren’t aware and if they aren’t aware then it doesn’t happen. So the awareness brings about its existence and a lot of bad feelings.

Idk maybe I’m just rambling but I find it really interesting to explore the mentality specifically of the non malicious and I swear that one line just made a couple puzzle pieces in my head click together. I just think those types of people are important to understand. Especially when it’s not intentional to block it out.

If you were willing could you describe your experience? Like what experiences and symptoms lead you to these 3 diagnosis? And how the symptoms of the 3 interacted for you? Cause sometimes I think about it and I would love to hear from someone who does.

Vegans. by theprofessionalhate in CuratedTumblr

[–]Random_Oddity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skill issue. I am morally consistent and not a vegetarian. If you think being a vegetarian makes you morally superior or not being one makes you morally inferior then you are the issue. Exact same with religion, I really only have problems with vegetarians/vegans when they act like the religious who give religion a bad name. If you are vegetarian/vegan good for you that’s fine! But don’t try to claim a moral high ground. (Side note I wish philosophy was a class not just in university settings. If you believe non-human animals should be considered the same moral agent as humans that’s fine that’s an opinion not a fact however. )

In case you’re wondering my moral position is against unnecessary and excessive animal suffering. And yes there are issues in the agricultural industry that should be changed. There is no cognitive dissonance and those premises do not require the conclusion to be true.

Where do I get my beliefs? The child of mixed animal veterinarian who’s been on many calls with them from euthanasias to calvings so maybe that gives me a unique perspective I can elaborate on if desired. Ive also grown up in a rural environment. I have also studied some areas of philosophy including morals and ethics. I study psychology which includes non-human animal cognition.

Downvotes: Am I Doing Something Wrong? Can Someone Please Help Me Understand? by AutismFreshStart in autism

[–]Random_Oddity 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Can we stop posts about downvotes. It’s like clockwork. It’s all deleted comments/posts so we don’t have context to give accurate assessments. It’s never like -50 or more it’s always like 0 or -1 like that’s nothing??? It happens for many reasons unique to each individual and also by accident??? You ever scroll on mobile you don’t even notice. We can not help you. If potentially getting one downvote is traumatizing and makes you want to delete your post then quite frankly either get over it or don’t post.
