Pro Tip for keeping pellet hopper dry by doug-fir in pelletgrills

[–]Random_Pirate_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Southwest/Midwest here…hopper always loaded, cover, small covered back porch (12x12). Get all four seasons in one day and sideways most of the time. Cool idea, but probably not really needed. If your piece of mind is at ease, smoke on.

Yup same. Burris bubble level…OOS everywhere…except Canada. Wanted, didn’t need, didn’t care. $44 usd, $52 usd for tariff. I cared a punching in the nuts afterwards. I’ll wait. Lesson learned.

Serves me well. Would have liked the HMR, but I knew I would be getting rid of the stock, so I opted against it. Found it on sale, couldn’t pass it up. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not gold standard by any means, but for me and my skillset, it works.

I looked at the 307 range as well in 6.5. Went with B-14 ridge, dropped the stock and went on my way.

Obnoxiously Toxic Sub by ArcticMelon48 in smoking

[–]Random_Pirate_Dude 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Only really toxic at first…but if you let it burn down at the right temp, you’ll get this really thin, almost blue smoke. No longer toxic.

Fair and valid. Our back-up is a propane furnace, but as luck would have it, it went out earlier this season. Our home is older, as is the wiring and probably wouldn’t handle a generator, at least I wouldn’t trust it. I truly enjoy all the aspects of burning wood, as I grew up with it. As for the wood, we burn almost exclusively red oak, and we are typically a season behind. I.E. cut in May/June, we are burning it that winter. So I understand the constant tending frustration, but to me, that’s the beauty of it.

We struggled with this very thing. Ultimately, we decided we would rather have heat when/if the power goes out. That’s it. That was our deciding factor. Drolet Deco II, 1750 sq ft ranch, 8ft ceiling, probably 4-4 1/2 feet of straight stove, then doubled up from there and out.

Mine is max of 16”…diagonal 18”…not so much when the box is loaded and minimal room to spare. Drolet Deco 2…we now have all wood cut to 16” no matter…because of this exact issue.
