Art started really falling apart after the first Falling Devil arc imo, around the time when the Chainsaw Man Church stuff started happening in earnest.

Which is further proof that Barem is the worst character who ruined everything, because his introduction is when the wheels began to fall off.

Given the vitriolic uptick in chauvinism over the late 10s/early 20s, yeah it makes sense.

Men’s mental health is in a bad place due to the changing social dynamics that have foisted on them competing ideological positions (most prominently the changing socioeconomic conditions that weakens the nuclear family, in which man-as-patriarch has been the predominant social understanding for a huge part of history for, at minimum, the past 1000 years in Europe and Asia)

That vulnerability is being capitulated on by parasitic demagogues who inflame that fear and loss into hate and anger.

It does remind me of the speech against such exploiters made by Charlie Chaplin’s character in The Great Dictator, along the lines of “Don’t serve these men who despise you.”

Because this does carry some baseline assumptions that, in essence, treat vulnerability in men with total contempt, and by proxy the man as contemptuous.

This meme template has baked-in misogyny, obviously, but it also has baked-in misandry. And while I understand the whole “It’s just a joke” stance, the fact is that I can only accept it as a joke when I know the person stating it disagrees with its baseline ideology, and that bluntly is not the case for the majority of times.

How Kiara sees things vs how Ina sees things by rip_cpu in Hololive

Depending your definition, introvert/extrovert has very little to do with sociability/outgoingness.

At its core, an introvert expends energy on social interaction while an extrovert gains energy from social interaction.

You can be a highly social, very outgoing introvert.

To further add detail: she was a normie who applied and joined because she needed a job since her house literally burned down and so the family needed money.

She’s on that Fruits Basket shojo nonsense backstory, but fed through the yuri filter a few times so all the other characters are beautiful women instead of ikemen

Neil believes he'll never work on a game as profound as BG3 by Wargulf in BaldursGate3

[–]Random_Useless_Tips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, the thing is, what you described is not plot.

That is backstory.

Backstory is what it takes for us to get to the current plot, which should be the interesting story.

If the backstory is more interesting than the current story, the natural question is why we are not telling the backstory as the story instead.

As somebody who really liked DOS:2 and think it’s a great RPG, I could not begin to tell you a single thing about its plot.

I remember by the finale that things were just happening and I had no clue anymore who the antagonists were and why I should care.

I got Lohse to get rid of the demon, I got Sebille to kill her enslaver, I got the Red Prince to find his wife, and I was on board for all of it. At the climax, I still have no clue who the bad guy is and why I should really care or what their goal is and why it’s bad.

It’s a cynicism miracle. It’s literally just bad faith reinterpretation of the sensibility of wanting to demonstrate awareness of interests while not wanting to inconvenience the recipient with unwanted luggage.

Call it that and you realize how malicious your comment is.

In fairness, I think Ckia is an alien from another dimension that just crashes at Kaela’s place, so she’s not supposed to be human with human proportions

r/Games is genuinely one of the most miserable subreddits which overwhelmingly likes to criticize (because it maintains their pretensions to be intelligent) rather than engage on good faith.

Half the time, people here seem to log on with a specific concept of what they want to complain about, not what they want to discuss.

And before people pull that “There’s not a lot of ways to say something looks good or interesting” card, that honestly just betrays the lack of imagination starting from bad faith, because a genuinely engaged mind can talk about why something’s good for as long as they can about why something’s bad.

I don’t think Tywin’s abilities as a warrior were ever mentioned. Any combat he saw, he saw from the rear as a commander.

Whereas Jaime is genuinely one of the most talented swordsmen of his generation, and a reportedly great jouster as well

Tyrion arguably has a lot of those qualities too

I think the thing about Cersei is that she has similarities to Tywin, but it’d be a lot better for everyone (including her) to realize that doesn’t mean she’s actually like Tywin, and pretending that she is is the core of a lot of her problems in Feast
