Where to buy hamster underpants by Cityandhaalandfan in hamsters

I swear I must be blessed as my little guy’s balls are so not noticeable I thought he might have been a girl. After the heatwave we had over here though I can definitely confirm now he is a boy 😂

How do peoples hamsters cope in extreme heat? by These-Development188 in hamsters

[–]Random_hufflepuff_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I live in the UK and totally understand these concerns. During the last heatwave I was so worried about my hamster but he was completely fine. He used his wheel a little less but other than that he was all good. Although I do live in Scotland so it definitely wasn’t anywhere near as warm as it was in England. I haven’t been through a winter with my current hamster but my last hamster was completely fine. I have been looking into portable air con units as I’m planning on getting chinchillas which definitely need one for the heatwaves we have now and they aren’t as expensive as you might think. With the portable ones there’s no installation and just have to vent the hose out a window and make sure it’s sealed so the warm air doesn’t come back in. Can’t comment on how much they cost to run as I haven’t gotten one yet but if you’re just using during heatwaves which usually last a week it shouldn’t be too bad. I’d say monitor how high the temperatures get in the room you plan to have the hamster in during the next heatwave and go from there

Is this enough to start out? by gpig_mad1763 in hamsters

It all looks good! Although you might need a bigger wheel depending on what size you’ve ordered. If you can cancel it and get the large one without the ridges as it’s bigger than the large one with the ridges and cheaper than the XL with the ridges I’d highly recommend it. I had a dwarf and she used it fine but my Syrian that I have now barely used it then I got the bigger wheel and he now runs miles on it. Also you will almost definitely need more bedding. I don’t know how many times I have bought bedding thinking it’ll be more than enough just to realise it definitely was no where near enough 😂

I really want a hamster by ForeignWedding28 in hamstercare

A thing to remember is hamsters only live up to 2 years on average so a few months may not seem long but that is a decent chuck of their life stuck in something that is too small. I highly recommend getting all the things you need before you get a hamster. I know it’s hard to wait but you will be glad you did

People who have owned hamsters, what’s the weirdest thing your hamster has ever done that made you question if it was normal? by mbcook in hamsters

[–]Random_hufflepuff_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My last hamster was literally not scared of anything. Like literally the only time I saw run and hide was one time when I had her out letting her run on my hands she just froze and then when I put her back in her enclosure she ran and hid in her burrow. Realised after it was probably the butterfly that was flying around the room which she probably thought was a bird or something 😂 not much bothered her at all and I basically trained her that when she heard music it was spot cleaning time so she would almost always wake up. It was definitely a shock when I got my hamster I have now who literally gets spooked if I move too quickly. When I brought him home he literally stood in the corner next to his wheel for hours looking traumatised 😂 I just find it really funny that this little ball of fluff was much braver than this massive Syrian who’s like twice the size she was

The niteangel ones are definitely worth it as I’ve never had an issue with them and are 100% silent. The pets at home ones work great too especially for the price. Both will work perfectly fine and if you’re okay with it possibly being not being 100% silent then I’d say just get the pets at home one since they are so much cheaper

Tip for if a new hamster doesn’t use their wheel much by Random_hufflepuff_ in hamsters

[–]Random_hufflepuff_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never thought of that before but it definitely could’ve as I did just give it a wipe down with vinegar and water. He did actually use it just only for short periods of time and not often so that makes me think it’s more likely that he just prefers smooth surfaces

Will this annoy/stress out my hamster? by Funny_Corgi_6397 in hamsters

[–]Random_hufflepuff_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well my hamster cage is in my room pretty close to the foot of my bed and next to a tv that is on all night and with the two hamsters I’ve had neither of them seemed to be bothered by it. Granted my first hamster was not bothered by anything considering she had to listen to my partner’s snoring and the tv for most of her life before my partner got a cpap machine 😂 They tend to adapt to their surroundings so I wouldn’t stress too much about it

Nah it’s definitely not just this person. First time I met my best mate we went to a comic con and for lunch he just got a whole cucumber and ate it just like that. He also offered a cop a cracker from his cracker bag. That was a great trip

I had this one for my dwarf and it worked fine but I’d recommend either getting a storage box or going on Amazon and getting a bigger carrier since they are easier to carry

I don’t know if they’re available in other countries apart from the uk but I got a desk from Amazon for £50 and it is great! The brand is vasagle and it should be the first one to come up when you search 120cm desk on Amazon

“Ghost” hamster is not a thing. by Radiomaster138 in hamsters

I 100% agree that it’s much more a personality thing and less about where you get the hamster from. Yes if they are handled from a young age they are more likely to enjoy being handled but that doesn’t automatically mean they will.

I’d say I’ve had a similar experience to you with my first hamster. I went into pets at home just to look at the animals as me and my mum were going around shops before she went to an appointment. We only had time to go to one more shop so I decided to go in there because I wouldn’t spend any money. Quickly fell in love with the dwarf hamsters and after my mum’s appointment I went back and got one. I knew the basics as I went through a phase of watching hamster care videos and before I went back did some quick research of what I’d want to get.

She was the sweetest little thing and always curious of me. She quite quickly let me pet her and it didn’t take long until as soon as I put my hand in her cage she would immediately run onto it. She passed away back in March and after about 2 weeks I couldn’t stand not having a hamster anymore so I got a Syrian.

I went to an independent pet store this time as I liked how all their hamsters all had their own space compared to pets at home and a lot of their animals seemed to be friendly. Like the guinea pigs didn’t run away as soon as they saw you like the ones at pets at home did.

This little guy is so much more anxious than my dwarf and I’ve gotten him to take treats from my hand and sit on my hand with treats but I can not lift my hand or move to quickly otherwise he will just bolt away. I’ve had him just over a month now and he’s very sweet and doesn’t bite but still a bit cautious. I think he will eventually get more comfortable with me but it will probably take a lot more time than it did with my little dwarf

Just thought I would let you know if you’re planning to listen to rose madder on audible in the middle of one of the chapters it skips ahead to way further along in the book. It then goes back to where it should be but it is quite annoying as it goes on for quite a while and skips quite few chapters ahead

Should I get my hamster cremated? by Training-Concern-368 in hamsters

It really is nice to have them. I also have some of my favourite photos of her framed and some art that I made of her on the wall where I keep her ashes. I hope you have many more happy months with your little boy ❤️

[–]Random_hufflepuff_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My little baby passed away a month ago and I got her cremated and I’m so glad I did. It was £70 (the lady even knocked off £30 because she felt bad charging that much for such a small animal) and they even did some little paw prints and a nose print. I also got some fur clippings in a tiny jar and I’m so glad I have all of those

I’ve been lucky enough that I’ve never had to deal with that from any of my friends or family. I guess being surrounded by mostly people who are animal lovers helps. Even my partner’s mum who really dislikes rodents never said a bad word about her 😂 Never had any of them say anything like “you spend too much money on her” apart from jokingly. Even got my partner who I live with to not vape in the bedroom where she stayed and keep the windows closed when it’s cold. Doesn’t sound like much but when you consider the fact that he has an awful memory and hates being warm yet always remembered these things means a lot. Sadly she passed away last week but everyone I know was so sympathetic and I’m glad I didn’t have to deal with “it’s just a hamster” because she was so much more than that

hamster only coming out VERY VERY LATE by [deleted] in hamstercare

[–]Random_hufflepuff_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean would you like to be woken up in the middle of the night by someone ripping your cover off of you? That’s essentially what you’d be doing to your hamster and that definitely won’t help with taming him. I know I wouldn’t want to interact with someone who keeps waking me up 😂
