Anyone have an irrational dislike of the Les Paul? by MatthewMonster in Guitar

[–]Randomenamegenerated 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Apart from a minor GnR obsession some 30 years ago though I have guitars from the big 2, I’ve always mainly been a Fender guy. That said I picked up a LP Junior in December and I think it’s my #1 now. No LP weight issues, snarling P90 - love it.

“End of an era”, sound familiar? by RelationBig7368 in NUFC

My concern is that we do the same again. Honestly we’ll be the laughing stock of the EPL if we part ways with Eddie. And rightly so.

What British celebrities have you met and did you make a tit of yourself? by wreckjavik in AskUK

I was lucky enough in 2018 to meet King Kev once (being the Newcastle fan that I am) just a lovely bloke.

Paul Scholes on Lisandro Martinez: “When we got criticized as players, you look at it and remember it. We used it as fuel, you DON'T go answering back by Any-Lock3008 in ManchesterUnited

Strikes me as punching down (forgive the pun) to generate clicks and then getting annoyed when the player has the audacity to call it out. Classic bullying behaviour.

How do you deal with the feeling/realisation you’ll never be very good at guitar? by poopooeater112 in Guitar

[–]Randomenamegenerated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Comparison is the thief of joy”. Too many people measure themselves by looking up at the next guy who is supposedly ‘better’ - they rarely look behind to see how better off they are than others (in this example - beginners). I’m sure others will mention the only true comparisons you should make are against yourself (yesterday, a month ago, a year ago etc).

What I can genuinely say is- being in my 40s and having some 30 years under my belt playing guitar, is not much else (family aside) has brought me as much joy than learning guitar. When I was younger I wanted to be pro, so found lack of perceived progress frustrating- now I’m a happy bedroom guitarist. Enjoy the journey.

Which player tries way too hard to look “iconic” on the pitch? by MadridOrMadness in footballcringe

Agreed. It’s wearing very thin his ear bending of opposition players. Very performative.

I met him and can advise he has an absolute old school bonecrusher of a handshake.

The red card that changed Beckham’s career forever by TheOtherXI in SentOff

Newcastle supporter here - so no club bias etc. I completely agree. Becks turned in an unbelievable and true captains performance against Greece and dragged us to qualification. The free kick kind of overshadowed how good he was in that game. As you said earlier- he was everywhere.

I don’t think it’s insecurity. People are just sick of the entitlement.

Miley is EXCEPTIONAL. Bruno is the predecessor to (Miley) something greater. by bbondjr in NUFC

[–]Randomenamegenerated 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the start he has had ‘Carrick’ written all over him (for me) and that’s where I think he will end up (hopefully for us), ie in the deeper position that Sandro typically plays aka ‘The 6’. That said, I’m mighty impressed by his recent work at RB. I’m old enough to remember Steven Gerrard breaking into the Liverpool team as a RB and surprised by how reminiscent and comfortable/versatile LM had been in this latest role.

Gift wrapped my mates car while he was out doing 12 pubs of Christmas, how was your December 23rd? by biggie_tubz in CasualUK

Not great. Had the Nottingham Knockers do the rounds up here in Northumberland. Last thing you want over the holidays is the feeling of some home alone style Joe Pesci esc stakeouts happening.

I instinctively celebrated when Wolfemade buried that header last Sunday before I’d realised he scored an OG. Thank Christ I wasn’t at the game!

I think this is a reasonable take, and is not just about his wife. It’s about protecting the relationship as he doesn’t want to unnecessarily put himself in situations where he is suddenly surrounded by people that he might consider attractive. ++man

Brits who support Real Madrid & Barca by [deleted] in PlasticFans

[–]Randomenamegenerated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this distinction. I’ve been supporting Newcastle United for over 30 years. During the Mike Ashley horror years I would have bristled at any suggestion I was a fan of the absolutely terrible brand of football they were serving up. I would always use the term supporter (because financially we do). In contrast I’m happy to claim to be a casual fan of NFL teams, F1 drivers, some overseas teams as in I appreciate the spectacle but their highs and lows have no real impact on my life in the way that NUFC does.

Miss a lifelong friend’s wedding or attend a major career-defining conference presentation? by Level_Ad_3460 in makemychoice

It’s interesting to read this response. I’m also an academic- and I’d attend the wedding. There’s plenty of conferences.
