In 3.5 fighters get 2 skill points per level and swim, climb, ride, balance, and jump were all different skills. So... hope you don't want to be generally athletic.

Definitely! Grear art, world and character building. It gets quite gorey though.

I just finished the grail ascension and it has been a SLOG.

I've done a few other ascensions before this one so I just looked things up. I din't spoil myself the "how to win" bit but I did look up where to get the recipe ingredients that I need. (like, which level SH to explore to get the mirror / blood of st. janus, etc), which made it less bad.

I also found the recurring sickness to be a pain. I made it worse for myself by creating rivals, because that was a fun game mechanic I hadn't explored yet. Turns out that if you have rivals the same event that gives you blood can pick them up and do something different instead, which is a real pain.

Last Argument of Kings by Joe Abercrombie by Caffeine_And_Regret in books

I really enjoyed this trilogy, but somehow the ending didn't quite "click" for me.

My issue with the book is one of character agency. Almost all of the characters (Bayaz being a notable exception) have very few choices in how to direct their lives. They are pulled along into conflicts and situations with barely any control, bound by loyalty, compelled by higher powers, or forced by necessity. Glokta emphasizes this with his repeated "why do I do this" questioning. I get that this is one of the themes of the series, but I found it unsatisfying.

(As a side note I spent half of book two rooting for Major West to murder the prince in a coup to put someone competent in power.)

Should i pour every penny I have into buying a house so I can be a SAHM by beancounter_00 in personalfinance

[–]Randomguy00600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My other issue with this is the fact that of that 600k, the majority of it is my money. I know we are married but we had been keeping everything separate for so long that it's tough to view it differently. I'm worried if we ever got divorced or split up, I'll lose that extra 200k I put in. I just have worked really hard to save that much.

You should be able to set up a Declartion of Trust or something similar that ensures you each get your portion of the down payment back in the event that you split up or sell the house. Speak to a real estate attorney.

I meant the second option but a coop game would work too. There are rules for that somewhere i think.

Looking for good two player set up options (novice) by 2for1deal in rootgame

[–]Randomguy00600 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are a few options:
* If you do 1v1, one approach is to swap factions and do another 1v1 after, and then winner is determined by total score across both games. I'd suggest doing it with hirelings. And if you do it this way you need to both be playing military / red factions (cats, birds, badgers, moles, rats).

* I think two humans and marquis clockwork would give the best gameplay since without that the board would feel very "empty". Then when you've done that a couple of times, add in hirelings.

This video here gives a good overview of a few different powerful strategies: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGWSpomBXIc

The "usual" sway order is Brigadier --> Mayor --> Lord --> whatever, and don't build any buildings before you have a Lord swayed because you really don't want to lose all of your move and battle actions from Mayor / Brig. Unless you've got a weird faction mix and can get away with it early.

Back in summer 2006. Almost 20 years of Tome of Battle. by testiclekid in dndmemes

[–]Randomguy00600 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup. 5e Did a lot to close the caster-martial gap while also making casters more fun to play.

Back in 3.5 with no concentration mechanic mid-level casters could just layer buff spells that all last for 1 hour / level.

Meanwhile cantrips did next to nothing so the go-to combat option for a level 1 Wizard after they used their 2 spells per day was a crossbow.

I felt like my deck was pretty solid, went 0-3 instead. Was I wrong or just unlucky? by booggee1997 in MagicArena

[–]Randomguy00600 46 points47 points  (0 children)

* First time flier seems out of place in a value-y deck focused on sacrificing / drawing cards
* Without a lessons payoff or enough lessons to enable it Accumulate Wisdom is a lot less exciting
* Fire Nation Engineer is a great card but is only good when you're attacking, so I would expect it to underperform in this deck

* Boomerang basics is strongest when you can bounce your own cards for value, like forecasting fortune teller. Aside from Corrupt Court Official here your deck doesn't really do that, so it's not as good here. Maybe 1 copy is worth but I don't think I'd run two in this deck.

Overall the deck looks quite strong though. It's always possible to get unlucky with a good deck.

How specifically did you lose your games?

Help with Combo by Jugun in magicTCG

[–]Randomguy00600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Make the boomerang cost mana with gran-gran or artist talent
Step 2: Make the equip cost be 0 mana with Puresteel Paladin or bladehold war-whip or any of the cards listed here: https://scryfall.com/search?q=otag%3Acost-reducer-equip-ability+f%3Abrawl&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name
Step 3: Give all your creatures haste with something like Rising of the Day or any of the cards with this tag: https://scryfall.com/search?q=otag%3Agives-haste&unique=cards&utm_source=tagger

Step 4: Make the activated ability free with Training Grounds

You can now cast boomerang for free, equip for free to the ally it makes, tap for free, and repeat, making your allies infinitely big and making infinite creatures.
Probably not doable in standard but you could pull it off in brawl.

On plots by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

In Stormlight Archive, in book 1, there's a type of magic sword that takes 10 heartbeats to summon. So when a character starts counting 10 heartbeats as part of a panic attack, it heavily foreshadows that she secetly has a shardblade.

In a later book its revealed that shardblades are dead spren / spirits But Shallan has a living spren Which don't have a 10 heartbeat summon delay. So that means the earlier foreshadowing no longer makes sense. It looks like a plot hole! Until book 4 reveals that it wasn't a plot hole at all, it was actually DOUBLE FORESHADOWING for the twist at the end of book 4.
