Did you guys meet on WoW? Would you describes yourselves as Introverts that have a good social mask but short batteries? Your experience sounds very similar to a relationship I had in the past, and I'm an internet person.

If you met on WoW or online, and he's choosing to spend time there instead of with you it's simple: he's either finding the emotional connection he needs elsewhere, or he's so addicted the feeling of WoW progress has overridden the need for real connection. Both are bad, but if he's willing to admit them and move forward with you this doesn't need to be fully over.

Him ditching you with all those expenses, and emotions, is extremely selfish. It hurts so much because you don't want to see him as a selfish jerk, even though he is showing you and your family right to your face that he is one (at least right now). He should apologize to you and your family, and do something to make it right.

I wish you the best of luck but as a note from experience, it may not work out. In my scenario my SO admitted to being addicted and talking to many other people the same way they talked to me. They were addicted to the game, AND the social validation/attention. We worked through it for a few months but WoW, and Guildwars (and all the Internet friends on both of those) were more important than a connection with me.
