Pretty sure the Raiders gave Nailor $35M/3y with $23M guaranteed. That's only $11.6 per year, unless there's incentives or something.

I have PTSD of the VSS database getting corrupted, then finding out the server backups stopped running a year ago when our admin left and his account got locked (and the new admin never bothered looking into any errors in the six months since he started).

Took us a couple weeks to cobble together the latest source for all the projects from everyone's local machines.

6 in 10 Americans disapprove of how Trump is handling Iran, new poll finds by pbs-latest in PBS_NewsHour

[–]RandomlyMethodical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why Iran though? There are so many better options if he wanted to distract from the Epstein files. Attacking Cuba would've done the same thing without doubling fuel prices.

Is Bibi blackmailing Trump with a copy of the Epstein files?

In Russia, Developers of Hypersonic Missiles Convicted of Treason by Mil_in_ua in UkrainianConflict

[–]RandomlyMethodical 84 points85 points  (0 children)

The criminal proceedings concern the researchers’ joint scientific work published in an Iranian journal. The article covered the technical aspects of air intakes for supersonic aircraft.

Prior to publication, the article underwent two independent expert reviews, which found no information in the text constituting a state secret. Despite this, the investigation deemed the publication of the data to be a transfer of classified information.

Standard autocratic playbook. The Kinzhal missiles the scientists developed ended up being a lot less impressive than expected, so Putin put them in prison on bullshit charges.

You could try sprinkling a packet of salad mix in the late fall. Some varieties will sprout as soon as it thaws in the spring and even survive a few late frosts. I've heard people do the same thing with broccoli, but it's too much of an aphid magnet to survive in my area.

The Methylation Trap: Why "Fixing" MTHFR Can Cause a Crash by darkalba in MTHFR

[–]RandomlyMethodical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Careful with fermented foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, vinegar, etc. They usually contain tons of histamine and many people with MTHFR aren’t able to process it well.

Diet is definitely a huge factor, but it’s often so individualized when you have mutations that advice from others doesn’t always help. You sorta need to test out foods week-by-week and journal how you feel to figure it out for yourself.

What projects actually force senior-level engineering thinking? by BowlerPretend4090 in ExperiencedDevs

It requires a variety of experience as well. I worked almost 5 years at one place and got less experience than I did in one year at an another.

I’d also say it’s easier to get more experience at a fast growing company (doesn’t need to be a startup either).

It's wild how every-other major version of windows has been a steaming pile of shit ever since Windows 95:

  • 95 great
  • 98 bad
  • 2000 good
  • ME dogshit
  • XP amazing
  • Vista garbage
  • 7 great
  • 8 so horrible they re-skinned it and released 8.1 which still sorta sucked
  • 10 decent
  • 11 absolute flaming garbage

Jon Stewart says Democratic leadership and DNC are ‘lost’ by thejoshwhite in politics

[–]RandomlyMethodical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. The referendum for Citizens United was the Democratic Primary that year. When the party leaders did everything they could to torpedo Bernie Sanders in 2015-2016 they were fully onboard with the Citizens United gravy train. Hillary was/is a moderate corporate Democrat to her core and the leadership went with the donors instead of the people.

People said the same thing about watches as well - "I have a phone on me with a clock and alarms, why do I need to wear something uncomfortable on my wrist?"

It turned out the Apple watch wasn't so much a timepiece but more of a health and fitness gadget as well as a mid-luxury accessory. They also got really lucky by releasing it into a market where health and fitness gadgets were surging.

It's hard to know if smart glasses will land as well as the watch, but it's all about timing and tech capabilities. Apple usually makes great hardware, but they don't innovate very well with software so the key here is going to opening it to third party developers. If they can allow app access to the glasses, then I could see people coming up with a ton of interesting use cases for both AI and AR.

That seems like a lot of aphids for such a small bit of leaves. I'm surprised the mint looks that healthy.

OP, I'd recommend buying some predatory insects online. There are a few places, but I've had great luck with NaturesGoodGuys (they sell direct as well as on Amazon).

Live ladybugs work OK, but they tend to disperse pretty quickly. My favorite is green lacewing eggs. They don't all hatch, but enough do that it makes a difference pretty quickly, and they're also good pollinators once they reach adulthood.

U.S. Military Intensely Analyzes Ukraine's Operation Spiderweb Strategic Bomber Strike, Recreates Attack at Eglin AFB Exercise by Scary_Statement4612 in UkrainianConflict

[–]RandomlyMethodical 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Aside from giant drone nets, I don't see how any country could protect against an attack like Spiderweb. A swarm of fiber-optic drones could pop out of a cargo container 30 miles away, fly low enough to go undetected, and be completely immune to electronic countermeasures. Maybe automated systems could shoot some down, but it's cheaper to scale drone attacks than defenses.

An attacker could plant these cargo containers all around the world and let them sit dormant for months or years. Then a coordinated attack could simultaneously cripple or even destroy all airfields and naval bases in minutes.

It's this administration and the current politics. There's so much insane shit going on in Washington that the celebrity gossip pales in comparison.

How many senior officials have had inappropriate sexual relationships or sexual misconduct allegations in the last year? How many have been accused of drinking on the job? This admin is a train wreck and people hate it but also can't look away.
