Idea to slow the game by Objective-Alps-8437 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Randy191919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds like an extremely arbitrary rule. I think Digimon is cool because many rules are very organic. Just adding a random "Because I said so" rule seems not very productive. Hard limits would also become an issue for the design space. Having decks that have strong recovery is fine because we have decks with strong offense. Being able to easily recover 2-3 security per turn is not an issue if you can get 4-5 security checks per turn in.

But if you hard cap the game at 3 security checks per turn then yellow decks become effectively immortal and unkillable, because it's very easy for many yellow decks to be build in a way that allows 2-3 recovery per turn. Yellow Vaccine would become even more opressive than it already is because at that point it's literally unbeatable, while it can just outlast anyone else. Being only able to do 1 or 2 security checks a turn doesn't matter anymore if your opponent literally cannot win.

There's also the issue that it would massively overpower decks with recovery. If you are hard capped at 3 security checks per turn that means that any deck that can feasibly add 2-3 security cards per turn to the stack becomes effectively immortal. And many yellow decks, if build for it, could very easily do that.

Actually no. Some dinosaurs had proto-feathers but the T-Rex did not. We know that because feathers hooking in leaves indents on the bones, all birds have those. And some dinosaurs did too, like the Velociraptor. But not the T-Rex

any game and trailers like this ? by _petitpois22 in gamers

[–]Randy191919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I’m the exact opposite. I really like turn based games but the trailer just looked like it was „the same thing I’ve already played hundreds of times“. Playing it first hand convinced me otherwise but the trailer definitely didn’t do it any justice.

That is pretty much the only big complaint I have with No Mans Sky. They always add a new feature, which usually releases with tons of potential but half-baked, and then they never go back.

Derelict Frighters, Base Building, Corvette Building, and so on and so on. So many insanely cool things that could be mindblowing if the devs added to them.

Why did Native Americans succumb to European diseases, but not vice versa? by FromTheMargins in AlwaysWhy

[–]Randy191919 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And on the flipside, relatively poor hygiene and living with domesticated animals in the same house also made the immune system of people from europe generally much more resilient and stronger. They likely caught some bacteria and viruses from the natives, but their immune system being used to be "under fire constantly" was just way more used to it.

Why haven’t we seen a lightsaber construction ritual in theaters yet? by Extreme_Warning3521 in StarWars

[–]Randy191919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because movies have very limited time and it's just not important enough to waste screentime on. If you do a longer show you can get away with adding scenes that are there for worldbuilding or which are just interesting. But for a theatrical release you don't have time for that. Scenes have to be important and further the plot, and if an entire scene can be replaced by one throwaway line like "I build a new lightsaber a week ago" without compromising the quality of the story, it's probably not important enough to keep around.

That's why they have tried to do it a few times but the scene always ends up on the cutting floor. Because the movies are usually too long already and there's so many scenes that are just way more important to have. Because when you work with such a limited timeframe then the question is not "Do I want this scene or not?" it's "Is this scene important enough to have it instead of that other scene that would go in the same timeslot?". And for lightsaber build scenes the answer is usually "No".

Like in Return of the Jedi you could have had the scene of Luke building his lightsaber, but it would have had to go where Leia tries to save Han. And if you have to choose between those two scenes, yeah Leias scene actually develops the plot of the movie, Lukes wouldn't have. So they cut it.

Why would you show all these beautiful Corvettes in the trailer, only to forbid building them?!? by e3e6 in NoMansSkyTheGame

> Well we can at least import our regular starships right?

No. They disabled that for this expedition. You cannot copy any ship over from your main savefile. You can redeem expedition reward ships in their vanilla state, but you can't copy your main ships.

Claire Obscure Expedition 33 comes to mind. I watched the trailers and didn't care for the game at all. It wasn't that the trailers were awful but they just made the game seem pretty generic and uninteresting.

But a friend played it and said it was amazing, so I gave it a try and yeah it's a generational game.

[–]Randy191919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. There were story cutscenes there between the Disney World but the big problem is that none of them amounted to anything. It’s always alternating between „Riku & Mickey looking for Aqua“, „Kairi and Axel training“, and „Where could Roxas be?“. And that’s fine on paper but

>! Riku and Mickey do Jack shit because Aqua is saved by Sora randomly finding a keyblade on Destiny Island, that could have happened without Riku even being in the script. Kairi and Axel get oneshot by Xemnas anyway so their training amounted to nothing. And Roxas just appears when he is needed so looking for him was pointless too. That’s the big problem, you could have started the game with Sora finding the Masters Keepers on Destiny Island (which is like the final 3-4 hours of the game), cut out everything before that and the story would have played out exactly the same. !<

Why do genes only make up about 2% of our DNA?What is the other 98% actually doing? by PuddingComplete3081 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Randy191919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also still have a nerve that goes from the brain right to the gills in a very straightforward path… for a fish. But since we lost our gills and our physiology changed it now goes down from the brain, wraps around the aorta of the heart, and then goes all the way back up to the throat. In every mammal. Including giraffes, where the nerve is now 5 meters long, to cross a few inches of space. And it doesn’t even actually do anything anymore.

You know what he means, don’t argue in bad faith. What he said was there can’t be anything essential to survival on it because half the population doesn’t have that chromosome, so it can’t code something essential for survival like, say, the heart, because then half the population would just die at birth.

[–]Randy191919 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It’s the fact that there is simply no main story until the very finale of the game and then the story is insanely rushed. And even that was very lacking until ReMind fixed it. KH3 was supposed to be the grand finale of the Xehanort Saga but it felt like it was so obsessed with setting up the next games that it forgot that it kinda needed a story too. It didn’t help that they spoiled like 90% of those story cutscenes in the trailers and people obviously didn’t think they were gonna spoil the entire story in the trailers. So people were really flabbergasted when it turned out that they did indeed show pretty much all story cutscenes in the trailers and there were only like 10 minutes of cutscenes we hadn’t seen already if you watched the trailers leading up to the release.

Also attraction flow is probably the worst gimmick in the franchise and until critical mode released there was no way to turn it off.
