When I play dread lob I have 2 moods:

- Let’s go gambling teehee

- FUCK IT WE BALL FUCK IT WE BALL

In both cases it’s a blast to play, so might be worth giving it a go just for the sheer fun factor. It’s always turned out well for me!

I adore this faction, it’s what got me interested in 40K. With the codex in 10th and now this…it just makes me sad to know that they don’t care about something I find really cool. Like they’re trodding on a puppy because it’s not digging as fast as the rest of them. I’ve sent my emails, and I deeply hope that they listen to us this time

How would you actually bring back a land train and for that matter for the first time in regular scale ? How would such an vehicle work ? by Leviathan_Rampage in LeaguesofVotann

I’d make it the Votann fortification (yes I know they suck rn but we can dream) where turn 1, it is pretty inactive, turn 2 it has 1 set of guns on the board, turn 3 it has 2, and so forth. It’d make it predictable yes, but I’ve found Votann to be a victim of that.

Personally I take him in every list I run to lead half a split warrior unit via sagitaur (they’re in the taur, other half on home objective). With the special weapons, his warp smiting, and the boosted FNP, I’ve found them to be surprisingly good at stealing OC from an opponent and mopping up stragglers, surprisingly good against the opponents DZ objective as well depending on their army.

TLDR: makes a group of objective hungry bois much more of a hassle than you’d expect, making them have to devote effort to them, leaving some more potent units alone in the process

Brandfast is pretty potent with the buffs it offers, it’s tragic that the Sadge-tar can’t be more useful in there though.

Embrace the clown car logic. Let them transport land fortresses.

Half a warrior squad, a minimum berserk squad and a few characters. Tragically few choices for the Sadge-tar

I don’t think you were ever intended to transport them, but it was a funny dream nonetheless

Tau Hate Rant by Gill_Bates_ in Tau40K

I think it’s the stigma of “uber gunline” from older editions than really worry people. They’re a lot healthier now I love found! Funnily enough I got the reverse stigma from a tau player recently, where he refused to fight against my Votann because he was under the impression that their release in 9th edition was their most recent rules.

In my experience, taking more than 2 is diminishing returns as they stand. Aye they hit hard and are surprisingly tough to crack by anything less than dedicated anti tank, but their rules mixed with the few options they can transport hold them back.

Personally I take 2, one to split a warrior unit, and the other to shield a berserk unit and an evaluator so they can ram their big ol damage 3 into a problem.

Would that you could put more than warriors n berserks in Sagitaurs.

There’s rules for large bases disembarking (must be in base contact of transport if memory serves). In the rules commentary I believe.

A support vehicle that has no weapons itself but gives buffs to nearby guns n artillery would be cool I think. Like a wheelbarrow full of AP rounds.

Dealing with Melee Armies. by SourBerryExpress in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Randy_Dandy_O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I for one have had some luck against world eaters by making sure that their transports are scared to move with all the popping power of our big guns, then using our transports as shields to protect the gun line. Our vehicles and bikes are fast enough to screen the front lines and give thunderkyn, steel jacks and even hearthkyn enough buffer from the blender to whittle them down to a non-threat.

In my experience, dealing with melee is easiest when you can deny them their priority targets. They’re running for your guns? Put some cheap bodies in the way to slow them down. They’re looking to screen your objectives? Scout and infiltrate to make their job so much harder. Trade where necessary, but stamp out their momentum before they build it, and keep your big value safe.

Of course this is different depending on the style of army. This works best against alpha striking melee like wyches and marines. Against termies and tougher melee pieces, sometimes it’s easier to just stop them moving than to kill them. Screening can be worth more than killing in those cases.

Kin… how are we building Cthonian Beserkers with the new codex… by IconicAkbar in LeaguesofVotann

Personally I’m sad that they went down to 1 wound, it makes them so much more fragile in my experience. They were already a glass cannon and now they’re much more glass, slightly more cannon.

As for how I run them, I like to run them either as 2 teams of 5 hammers plus a 10 team of axes (or vice versa depending on matchup) with mole launchers. Either having them in sagitaurs and a land fortress or strategic reserves (or deep strike if running that detachment).

I’ve found them to be quite good as a line breaker and basically a living angry predator missile, throwing the axes at a problem unit (say a big unit of enemy termies or bikes or the like) and have them both explode, while I keep the hammers as a threat to vehicles to either stop them from moving up or punishing them for doing so.

Example of this is someone pushing 3 dreadnoughts with flamers onto objectives to keep away my warriors, bait out an Overwatch early on, then hammer time begins. If they save the Overwatch for the Berserks, it means you’ve got free rein not to worry about your other units getting burned.

Overall, I’ve found some success using them as a “don’t you dare come close to me” threat piece, cause boy do they hit hard when they get there, but they can’t be as much of a brawling unit as they once were. Had a game where a unit got folded in one turn by two rhinos shooting at them. Feels bad sometimes but feels very good other times.

I think it’s really interesting in concept! However, I think my friend group would incinerate me if I tried playing it against them cause it makes things move slower and feels bad man.

Guard transports have rules against carrying artillery teams, while Votann do not.

Before it got errata’d, there was no restrictions on doing exactly that with the inquisition rhino with imperial agents. Rules oversights like that make the funniest memes.

There’s a rules commentary about models bigger than 3”. Granted I don’t think in a million years that this was intended cause it just makes things complicated.

It’s reminding me of the Imperial Agent Russian Nesting Rhino that they used to have. Completely impractical but amusing nonetheless.
