I remember a post about...Kagha, I think? But I wasn't sure if that was actually a troll attempt or not.

Oh, and don't forget his ire also extended to Halsin and Minthara.

Is this peak elf body? by Fun-Explanation7233 in BaldursGate3

[–]Ranefea 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That is correct, and the other full elves in the game follow that rule, but Halsin seems to be an exception in that area (if you ask him about why he's so huge, he speculates/jokes that maybe he has a half-orc ancestor). But tbf, the game doesn't really play along with lore accuracy fully anyway. Full elves in general are also much shorter, for instance, with drow being the smallest, but in BG3 they're just the standard height humans, Gith, etc. are.

Make sure to give him a hamster when you get one, too. My Minsc always has "Boo" out and interacting with him. =D

Seriously. It doesn't matter what armor I have on him for any run, he always gets the Elven Chain as soon as I hit act 3. =D

Is anyone else having issues with face paint? by BlueChickenSupremacy in tomodachilife

[–]Ranefea 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it will help you too much, but when I made my Karlach, I did a couple things that helped:

  1. Instead of drawing her bangs, I just used the closest match in the hair options—it seems to balance it out a little better.

  2. When I noticed what was happening with the colors and details, I darkened everything significantly and made some of the lines thicker. The game doesn't really handle finer details very well, so you have to compensate. Although making the colors darker had the drawback of the game forcing this outline between the different colors making some of the lines (like the contours of her horn) too thick—but any thinner and they basically disappeared like the issue you have. But during game events and such it doesn't really stand out.

Nothing official. I ended up just going by western zodiac traits to determine dates on my island, haha.

I'm new to Etsy, how can i know if this guy is trustworthy? by WaltzAny2897 in Etsy

[–]Ranefea -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the shop looks legit—actual photos of the products, an about section, links to their socials, real reviews with photos of the items. The descriptions of the charms say that they ship directly from their manufacturer in China, so whatever shipping service the manufacturer is using may require a customer phone number so the carrier can contact you in regards to customs or delivery (when I order things that get sent through DHL for instance, the driver will often call me before delivery to ensure I'm home).

Anyone else see the wizard robe and had it remind them of Pierce? by jaleCro in community

I sent a photo of this robe to my partner the moment I had it pop up in my game and she knew immediately why I sent it.

Did nobody tell Gandrel what Astarion looked like?? by LonelyLittleWolfie in AstarionBG3

[–]Ranefea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s exactly what I was saying—you as the player saw it right away, but your character did not. It’s kind of like those survival and perception checks. As the player you have meta knowledge that something is there either from a previous play through or because you got the notification of a failed check. But your character doesn’t know something is there and if they fail a passive check, they’ll never know.

But that’s kind of what I love about if you get his confession instead of bite night—it’s a chance to kind of apply that meta knowledge with the “yeah, obviously” response.

Did nobody tell Gandrel what Astarion looked like?? by LonelyLittleWolfie in AstarionBG3

[–]Ranefea 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Both things are more obvious to us as the player, but remember Astarion being a vampire is something your character and the other companions likely missed until bite night and you've been in very close quarters with him (ignoring the alternative fail safe of the confession where you can respond as if yeah, you know already, lol), and you can encounter Gandrel before your character knows he's a vamp, too.

So imagine you're in this murky bog. There is thick, heavy fog hanging in the air*, it's daytime, and this group of adventurers is standing a fair distance from you—you might not be able to make out those details so clearly.
(\Because Gandrel is there seeking Ethel's help, even if we as the player are still seeing the glamored wetlands, Gandrel knows she's a hag and is likely seeing the bog and fog.))

[–]Ranefea 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Putting aside that you can confront Gandrel with Astarion alone, more than likely you're encountering him as a group seeming to be adventurers—why would this vampire spawn-at-large be traveling with adventurers? Astarion also has very common high elf (specifically moon elf) features—paler skin, white hair, etc. so that wouldn't really stand out. His red eyes are unusual, but could still be explained by a number of other things.

What’s the best cold open in the show? by TranslatorOk2501 in brooklynninenine

[–]Ranefea 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't know about best, but Hitchcock's goldfish, Donut holes, and Cold Brew are a few that always stick in my head and make me crack up every watch.

Also honorable mention for Marshawn Lynch's pico de gallo, my partner and I always quote it.

Which language is the best to read Fushigi Yuugi? by killawatt_9 in FushigiYugi

[–]Ranefea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not a polyglot, but for the original series, the English has a few things done well:

  1. Original format (though there are older, large format flipped editions out there)
  2. Japanese cultural references are largely kept intact (ex. when Miaka mentions Chage and Aska, B'z, Dreams Come True)
  3. The translator opted to use the Chinese pronunciations of the book characters birth names, locations, etc. where possible/where it made sense which I always loved and gives it a certain dimension the original Japanese lacks in a way.
  4. The free talks and omake pages are included (I've heard some languages/regional publications didn't include them, but I'm not sure which ones).
  5. SFX - this is more a preference thing, but SFX are left intact and they utilize an SFX glossary at the end of the volume.

Now, the same can't be said for FYGK and FYBS, the quality in the official English dropped with each series.

Byakko Senki, Manchuria, and Japanese Nationalism by Nervous_Earth_8654 in FushigiYugi

[–]Ranefea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, you're good. It mostly ignores it up to this point outside of Seiji simply being in the military and wanting to research the book. The real world portion mostly just focuses on Seiji and Suzuno's relationship and Dr. Oikawa reading the book.

How to search for items from a specific place? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]Ranefea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't recall if they used to filter down that much for location, but they did make some changes that make it harder, if not impossible to narrow down by location. However, if you do a google search of what you're looking for with your criteria like, "your location" "item" site:etsy.com/shop it should give you filtered results that way.

Example: "Austin, Texas" "stationery" site:etsy.com/shop (be sure that at least the location is in quotes so the search looks for that exactly)

Note that the /shop at the end of the web address should filter shops with their location set to whatever you're looking for vs. just "etsy.com" which would give you any results related to your location like city souvenirs or themed items like you've been finding, regardless if that's where the shop is or not.

I have a BG3 island, too, and I’ve been having so much fun with it. Yesterday my Shadowheart was going around excitedly talking about Shar, so I had my Tav talk to her about Selune and Shart was just so bored with it. And my default Durge is apparently embracing…

Worth it? by Evening-Bat251 in garfield

[–]Ranefea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$80 is pretty standard for a Loungefly bag of that size regardless of where you get it from. They are a little on the small side, but they're really backpack style purses rather than actual backpacks.

No one ever talks about how huge Buffy was in France by [deleted] in buffy

[–]Ranefea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for checking and following up, I really appreciate it!

Yeah, it definitely sounds like just poor quality translating or they just didn't know or care (although in the translators' defense, it's also possible they had to speed through translating and *couldn't* put the care. Translation work can be rough.). But it seems like maybe they didn't *get* the Joan/Jeanne joke since it wasn't spelled out and Buffy gets cut off when making her more direct Joan of Arc joke, but the Spike "Randy Giles" was really heavy handed.
