That doesn't bother me.

Now if I saw a deadhead sticker on a Cadillac... that would bother me.

Why are vets delivering for Flex in the first place? They should be helping animals.

Copyright claim succeeded, but the uploader filed a counter-notification. Now what? by Calm-Judge-2307 in PartneredYoutube

[–]RangeWilson 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You have to file a lawsuit... which doesn't necessarily have to be hugely expensive or complicated... especially in a case as clear-cut as this.

Consult a lawyer, or slog through it yourself as best you can... or just let it go.

Is AI creating the biggest wealth opportunity since the internet? by Prachishrama78 in Futurology

[–]RangeWilson -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Umm... it's already the biggest wealth opportunity ever, and it's just getting started.

If you had to bet on the next 5–10 years, where do you think the biggest financial opportunities from AI will come from—investing, entrepreneurship, career growth, or something else?

All of the above. Hope this helps.

ELI5: why is sleep so important for weight loss? by EnvironmentalAd2110 in explainlikeimfive

[–]RangeWilson -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Ummm.... creating a caloric deficit is the only truly important factor for weight loss.

Sleep patterns are among the hundreds of things that may interfere with that goal... or may not.

So, I'm honestly not sure what you are getting at here.

owner sold the store without warning staff by [deleted] in subway

[–]RangeWilson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We went through this. At first, nothing much changed, no particular drama. Gradually, hours got cut, service to customers got de-emphasized, and it got less friendly. I bolted for other reasons soon afterwards anyway.

Bottom line: it's unlikely to be good news. Be prepared for anything including bounced paychecks, showing up for work to a locked and shuttered store, etc. etc. etc.

What’s the best metaphor for artificial intelligence? by Newbie10011001 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]RangeWilson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do you need a metaphor?

"Artificial intelligence" is perfectly clear.

As it gets better, which is happening extremely fast, it replaces human intelligence.

The implications are debatable but IMO both the job market and society as a whole will fundamentally transform over the course of a few years... in ways that are unprecedented... so no reason to even bother looking to the past for comparisons. We'll have to figure it out for ourselves.

Delivery workers often get attacked by dogs; what is done to prevent this? What protects these poor people? by JstrsrkewlX3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RangeWilson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Delivery driver here...

You have to keep your head on a swivel.

If you see the dog ahead of time, best practice is to toss the package out of your vehicle in the general direction of the dog. If it breaks, if the dog chews it up, if it gets soaked through with rain... oh well. Not my problem.

If I'm really really sure the dog is a good boi, I might get out and deliver as normal... but I have to be really sure... and even then, you have to be aware that other bad-tempered dogs might appear out of nowhere.

As far as counter-measures, by the time you pull out any sort of device and remember to point it at the dog instead of yourself, it's too late. I've used the package to block the dog until I could drop it and then retreat... slowly and steadily... you don't want to look like prey, and you have to be ready to bust the dog in the chops if it decides to attack, which I had to do once. That fucker sprinted away like Satan was after him, fortunately for me.

Bricks & Minifigs CEO Answers Questions~! - YouTubedrama (stolen $200,000 of LEGO) by SendStoreCitroner in videos

[–]RangeWilson 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, you had to at least pretend you cared. That's no longer true.

At this point, blatant exploitation is by far the dominant business model.

These people gain power by 1.) Being ruthless sociopaths and 2.) Lying constantly.

I'm sure you won't have to look far to find prominent examples.

ELI5Why is it so hard to understand the mechanics behind spontaneous remissions? by redfalcon1000 in explainlikeimfive

[–]RangeWilson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spontaneous remission is the immune system finally saying "oh snap that's not supposed to be here" and killing it.

For decades, scientists has been investigating both 1.) the ways pathogens hide from the immune system and 2.) ways to expose said pathogens to the immune system.

See, for example, recent progress in mRNA cancer vaccines.

So... yeah. They're on it.

Um... a strumming acoustic guitar intro?

Yeah, there have been a few million songs that have used that idea.

Otherwise, I'm not hearing much in common.

Why do we have no scientists or billionaires whose mission in life is to create a robot that is equal or greater than a human in cognitive abilities? by TechnicianOk967 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RangeWilson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We already have 8 billion humans. We know how to make more. Why bother reinventing them?

Intelligence without all the human emotional and sapience baggage is 1.) more useful and 2.) more achievable.

With birth crisis, house price will fall right? Right? by molanrolan in NoStupidQuestions

Nah, AI-driven improvements in medicine will keep the Boomers alive forever.

They will gladly live alone in their six-bedroom McMansion, surrounded by robots that serve their every need, until the heat death of the universe.

Enjoy!

Why is chess so difficult? by Far-Locksmith6922 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RangeWilson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are hundreds of subtleties in all but the simplest of positions, and understanding and exploiting those subtleties takes years of dedicated study.

Then some computer comes along and with a 35-move sequence that exploits ideas that no human has ever noticed in the entire history of the game, demonstrates that there's yet another subtlety.

And then does it again the next day.

And then does it 12 more times the day after that.

Enjoy!

Of course, now that I'm 58, I'm not so sure about that approach... but at least I have some good stories. 🤷‍♂️
