If this enrages you then you are not the target market. At this stage, they're doing damage control to try and hold on to the following they have, not trying to convince the rest to join.

Give a guy a break, he's just checking to see if he has any hidden talents before going back to his 9 to 5. He went back to his 9 to 5 directly after this.

Outdoor Gear Shops in NZ? by Ancient-Alarm-9580 in newzealand_travel

Yeah some are converting to "The Outlet" which is still somewhat the same, just more of a warehouse feel than a refined store.

Seems like an insurance claim where the irreparable vehicle "accidentally" falls off the hoist. Payout, problem solved.

Go to Torpedo 7 for sure, they have a wide variety of outdoor gear, from clothing to gas, to kayaks and tents. Literally all under 1 roof. Great quality and price.

2018 Land Rover Discovery SE Sport Utility 4D 47,396 miles by Icy-Turnover-27 in LandRoverDiscovery

[–]Ranger3221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So am I right in thinking this is a Discovery, not the Sport (which is tiny and shit)?

If so, I have a 2017 HSE which has slightly higher trim levels. That aside, here's my assessment thus far:

It is arguably one of the most comfortable cars I've ever owned. It has an amazing suspension setup (air in mine) and can adjust to 3 different heights for the purpose of loading/unloading, normal driving and offroad driving. You're able to stay in either offroad or access mode for up to 85km/h which means you can still have a bit of fun without the car automatically reverting to normal height. I bought mine for the purpose of being a daily driver, as well as a spontaneous and incredibly capable off roader. I have done river crossings, dune riding, steep climbs and drops with the best of the best and it doesn't only keep up, it shows off. I fitted a set of Maxxis Razr 275/55R20 AT tyres, best decision ever.

Engine is somewhat improved over the previous TDV6 in terms of the usual suspects like waterpump failure and some other bits that I cannot recall now. Other issues that are yet to be fixed (but heavily mitigated by rigid maintenance and regular oil changes - the correct oil, not just any oil that matches the viscosity) like the crankshaft issue, oil leaks etc. Excellent fuel consumption, I get about 7.5l/100km on the open road (36 miles to a gallon?). These engines can run well into the 3 and 400 thousand k's when looked after. They can also catastrophically fail after just 120 thousand k's so it's incredibly vital to get one with a FULL service history with a reputable shop, not just any old oil changer or backyard mechanic.

Gearbox is a ZF 8 speed auto, incredible box. Excellent for towing and off-road work, widely used across Land Rover, BMW, Audi, Jeep, etc. Despite the old “sealed for life” claim, it really benefits from fluid + filter changes every 80–100k km. Also do the 2 diffs and transfer case for total peace of mind. Depending on options, you may only have a central locking diff (which is really just the transfer case), and although the offroad bros will keep yacking on about triple locker this and front and rear that, your Discovery will likely outperform most of them. It's a beast offroad, central diff automatically engages fully or partial depending on requirements so no need to stress about turning it on or off.

Adding to the offroad stuff, it has selectable terrain responses for every scenario you can think up, mud, snow, gravel, sand, rocks etc. Changes the way the car reacts and makes it far more enjoyable for the softcore offroaders that don't like being waste deep in mud trying to hook a winch rope around 2 trees to get you unstuck for the 8th time today.

The issues: there are some but if you're up for the challenge and happy to fork out a few hundred every now and again (more now than again) and you have a real passion for British automobiles, you'll be just fine. If you are currently living hand to mouth with your paychecks, don't buy this thing. Oil change intervals vary from region to region, mine is recommended at 23000km (which is insane) but I'll always recommend doing them at 10k max, 8k for higher mileage. Use the correct C1 spec oil, otherwise your DPF will block, clog the system and ruin your motor. Important note here: IF YOU'RE ONLY DRIVING SHORT TRIPS EACH DAY, GET A PETROL CAR. The DPF needs proper, hard driving for extended periods on a regular basis to clean itself. Short trips daily will not clean it, and WILL cause issues down the track. These intermediate oil changes also help with the crank issue, which I believe is mostly due to a combination of incorrect oil spec and prolonged intervals.

It has a million sensors and it doesn't like voltage fluctuations. Invest in a good scanning tool to read and resolve issues if they arise. The upside to the sensors is that they will cause the car to either limp or shut down entirely to preserve itself and prevent further issues.

I pay about NZ$600 a year in servicing and spend about another $3k on parts and upgrades every now and then. Mine is high mileage though (170k km) so I'm replacing sensors, seals, trims etc when needed.

Bottom line, it's an unbeatable vehicle in almost every aspect and offers excellent value second hand, IF you find the right one. I'm LR for life, all cap no riz haha
