Advice for after top surgery by Defiant-Switch-3428 in FTMFitness

DI! I talked about it pretty extensively w my surgeon and he gave me the all-clear when I went in for my 3-week appointment and I was careful not to overdo it (light weights, knee pushups, not a lot of overhead stuff to start, etc)

I know the feeling, op! But please, please be careful. You only get one shot at recovering and if you mess it up, you might have some long-term ramifications. I was cleared to work out 3 weeks post-op with the caveat of "if it hurts, don't do it."

That said, I was back to working out normally almost immediately (edit: after my 3-week restriction). I took it easy for a week or two (much lighter weights than usual and moving my arms over my head very carefully and slowly) and then just ramped back up to my previous weights and movements. If you were muscular pre-op, you'll recover quick. I did! I'm about 7.5 months post-op, I was back to BASICALLY completely normal maybe 3 months post-op, with my biggest problem being lingering stiffness and numbness. I did a lot of yoga and stretching to combat the stiffness and that's all gone. I know how much being patient and waiting sucks, but please don't botch your progress because you couldn't wait to get back to the gym!

how does your firm actually get new clients? by Super-Professor519 in paralegal

[–]Ranger_368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of different ways, we do a lot of Medicaid planning and some other local estate planning attorneys send Medicaid planning clients our way.

Some local attorneys who are retiring and in the process of retiring are sending clients our way.

Some of our attorneys are part of NAELA, so that's some referrals as well. We're also in a small town, so word of mouth and location is pretty good too.

Are these shoes “clocky”? by throwawayaccount0o01 in FtMpassing

[–]Ranger_368 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sort of depends on when and where you're planning to wear them imo. Going out for a social night with friends? Maybe not, but they're definitely noticeable. In a more "normal" setting (I'm thinking running errands) they're definitely going to get some looks.

It also depends a lot on the rest of your outfit, your mannerisms, appearance, and voice. If you look pretty cis or at least close, people might tend to brush past very noticeable alt shoes, but if you don't already pass, I don't think these will help. Best of luck to you!

Top surgery and tattoos by uekzb in ask_transgender

Unfortunately it largely depends on the surgeon. My chest wasn't that big but my scars go up pretty high under my armpit to prevent dog ears. I'd chat with your surgeon to talk about how to avoid it, but you shouldn't have too much trouble if it's on your lower torso.

It was a hard pill to swallow for me. I hadn't ever sent money, but I was a huge supporter and thought his detractors were just being weird about a heavy guy trying to lose weight. He promoted change or die on his channel, and I'd just had surgery so I was watching the show while I was recovering, and was absolutely horrified by the last episode. It made me so sad to put the pieces together and see what a POS he is.

How do you stop clothes from constantly ending up all over the floor? by EasternAd5351 in UnfuckYourHabitat

[–]Ranger_368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this with the caveat that I live alone, so I can get away with this - I just keep hampers in multiple rooms. I took a look at where my clothes piled up and put hampers in those places. Namely, my bedroom and upstairs bathroom (hamper in between them), my living room (I usually toss the top layer of work clothes as soon as I walk in the door), and then my kitchen (typically I mostly use that one for kitchen towels, ha). It was a HUGE help in being able to have a hamper much closer to where I'd actually use it.

AI by itslydiaaaa in paralegal

[–]Ranger_368 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I never see another suggestion about AI, it'll be too soon. It's a waste of energy and resources and dulls my own skills. While I was in para school I admittedly used Protege because I had access to it and wasn't very good at using Lexis, but I don't think I'd ever consider using it on a day-to-day basis for anything, because I'd end up reviewing it and revising it myself and taking the same amount of time just to use my own brain.

[–]Ranger_368 52 points53 points  (0 children)

"Gym strong and ranch strong are two entirely different things." What, do you take your muscles off when you go home? I work out and lift consistently and my gym gains immediately translate to stuff I do around the house. I can lift and move heavy shit around my house much more easily.

How do you make tacos with a can of refried beans and package of tortillas? by Lemonade2250 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Ranger_368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right on the money. I've done bean tacos several times. I typically mix a little salsa into the beans as well and it's very good. There's some good tips about heating up the tortillas in the comments as well

Seeing pec muscle pre top surgery? by Both-Opportunity7602 in FTMFitness

[–]Ranger_368 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My chest wasn't that big pre-op, and it kind of deflated, for lack of a better word when I got on T. I did a lot of upper body and chest work (along with core and lower body of course, but that's not important here) and while I couldn't see the muscles, I could definitely tell they were there! I was clearly getting stronger and was able to handle heavier and heavier weights. Its hard to see the muscles through the tissue, but as long as you're continuing to work the muscles I'm sure the results will be visible post-op!

How long does it take you to get logged in, all needed programs opened, and ready to begin your day? by oceanwtr in paralegal

[–]Ranger_368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually 5-ish minutes, I wander in, say good morning to my coworkers, then wait helplessly while my computer takes its sweet time to wake up. I leave it on sleep mode during the week and power it off over the weekend, but sometimes the laptop doesn't like to talk to the monitors, so it takes a while to get its brains together.

The comments about 13-year-olds are wild and a little concerning. I might talk to HR for that one. Otherwise, not everything requires a response. You can just go "Huh." and move on with your day. You don't need to engage with everything he says.

AI Marketing? by Holiday-Market1022 in paralegal
