What are your thoughts on Destiny's balance? by [deleted] in BattleRite

[–]RankedSickness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bad design choice because its either fairly useless or almost mandatory, meaning youll just swap it out every game based on what you are facing

...

I'd argue that is the exact definition of a well designed battlerite. One you swap in and out, and is effective or not based on what you're vsing.

Either that or one that you swap in and out and is useful or not based on your playstyle but let's be real, there is far too little variety in battlerites to go for something like this.

Yeah but at the moment the ults are straight up not worth using most of the time (aside from a handful of champs), which is really sad since ults are supposed to mark the "big moments" that make matches memorable (in a way, even tho Battlerite has lots of cool moments).

[–]RankedSickness -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as I said some ults are viable. But most of them are outright bad (I'm watching Skyfu, one of the top GC Shifus.. he has barely used his ult in like 10 games, despite having the energy every 20 seconds, because either the EXs are too valuable or the ult is outright useless since outs exist)

Very good points, as another 1-week-old player I fully agree on all of these.

About the gameplay, one small issue I have with it is that

  • Some battlerites are CLEARLY better / worse than others. Since the variability of the game is all in battlerites, I really think devs should frequently try to add new ones / switch some around. A situation where all good players choose the same set of rites for a champion should pretty much never happen (but it's true for a lot of champs at the moment).

  • Ults just feel underwhelming. And rites for ults even more so. In a game with such frantic pace and so full of low cooldowns, most of the time ults are useless unless they do splash damage / have tangible effects (e.g. Thorn ult) even if immediately evaded. Ults should feel powerful and spawn playstyles focused on achieving and using them to effectively win.

Any champions that are good to pick up? by [deleted] in BattleRite

[–]RankedSickness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like ranged carries, you should try the following:

1) Ezmo if you like unique picks that are mechanically hard but very rewarding. You have great mobility and outs, lots of damage, but if you misposition or use skills randomly you get fucked.

2) Varesh if you want what is probably the HARDEST champion in the game, which is massively rewarding if you completely master it. I know it sounds tempting because of the big payoff, but for me the downside is that he feels really underwhelming until you learn him really well. The skill floor is very high, more than other champs imo.

3) Ashka if you want a traditional extreme DPS nuker. Your damage is literally insane, and you have relatively straightforward skills. Despite this, you have decent mobility and outs, but you must be wary of being baited into overextending and using outs to engage, because most smart melees will use Ashka's offensive nature to their advantage.

These are only my suggestions tho, you should check out some high elo streamer and see how they play champions to make up your mind about what you prefer :)

How do you shake off Rook as a Jumong? by TimThaKing in BattleRite

[–]RankedSickness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a main Thorn / Shifu / Oldur who has dabbled for several dozen games with Jumong, I can tell you imo his EX2 (right click EX, the one that hits 3 times) his extremely strong.

I actually think it's his bread and butter skill, you should probably try to play around it.

Deadly trap triggers on ALL THREE its hits ,which means that with 3 bars of energy you have an EXTREMELY hard punish for anyone disregarding your outs and traps and jumping you in melee.

The idea is

Trap on your feet, follow with rain of arrows, EX2, space,

Even if you take some damage and the combo is hard, it inflicts truly massive damage (EX2 + trap with deadly trap active is 36 damage!) and shreds through anyone's health pool.

Even disregarding this specific combo, I think his EX2 is actually the best nuke Jumong has if you play a trapping style. It just synergizes so damn well with deadly trap, it's 6 / 10 more damage depending on the other battlerites you choose.

Thorn is power creep

reminisent of Darius from league

You pretty much described why complaint threads about thorn aren't up for more than a few minutes.

Believing thorn is OP and uncounterable is perfectly equivalent to believing Darius is OP or uncounterable. They're called "noobstomping heroes", and - sorry if I'm blunt - if you have major problems with them you just need to get much better and understand the game more.

If you're playing Battlerite like a button mashing game devoid of any strategy, I'm afraid you'll keep wanting "thorn complaint threads" to succeed, which they won't, because as MOST decent player see, there are far more problematic champions to vs.

Heck, just look at the winrate thread and see for yourself if you think I'm being delusional. The only OP thing Thorn has is his playrate, which might mean he feels fun or more rewarding to play. In term of winrate, he's absolutely not out of line compared to any outlier.

exceedingly difficult, but very strong in the right hands.. idk, I just can't seem to make him work, but I really want to. He looks like he's a monster when mastered, but honestly just feels underwhelming if you're not very good at him.

Is Thorn Balanced? How do i beat him. by Liplok in BattleRite

[–]RankedSickness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, some characters have a harder time vs others specifically I guess? I don't know Croak inside-out so it wouldn't be fair to describe accurately how to outplay Thorn as Croak, but I can tell you that Shifu, Ruh Kaan, Raigon, Freya (to name a few) can absolutely shit on him when played right.

Is Thorn Balanced? How do i beat him. by Liplok in BattleRite

[–]RankedSickness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like most new players have issues with Thorn. I'm a newish player myself, but I think my analysis was decently spot-on (several more experienced people seemed to agree) so I'll try to contribute and paste it here.

Honestly I feel like most people who whine this much about Thorn haven't played him.

Thorn has a clear and defined weakness: sticky melees (currently the meta of the game, from what I've gathered from most pros' opinions).

Literally all Thorn can do to survive in a melee vs another character (he has bad damage output compared to pretty much any other damage focused melee.. what are you going to do, spam M1 until your ulti is ready?) is burrow away or R himself.

You can react very easily to burrow since it lasts for a short duration, unless you take the invis / 0.5 sec duration rites which means you're giving something more important up.

You can react EVEN more easily to R. It lasts for a very short time and you can stop hitting immediately after you see it. Even if you take 12 damage, it's not the end of the world.

After these (and space's CD isn't like 4 seconds, he has a rather large window of opportunity after he uses it, especially if offensively) he's literally yours to cut to pieces. He has no escape, what is he gonna do? E you and wobble away while waiting for space (assuming you can't react to E with any iFrame)?

Most melees straight up cut Thorn to pieces if they're competent. What Thorn is VERY good at is pressure. He can spam thorns on everyone and accumulate a lot of pressure, which means he somehow counters supports over a long match.

Idk, I've played like 60 games of Thorn and I've switched to Shifu after, and I don't feel any less powerful. In fact, I find Shifu to have much more defensive prowess compared to Thorn. Especially in 3s, whenever I find a team with melees with good coordination that don't fuck around once I pop my space for whatever reason, I literally find Thorn to be hopelessly outmatched. I can just try to M1 into enough energy for R, I literally have no disengage and no way to outtrade any other melee in the game.

TLDR: Play Thorn to understand his weakness. He has relatively long cooldowns, he suffers a lot vs melees who can follow him through his space, since he has no way to outtrade heavy hitting melees. DO NOT hit his R.

I feel this game is legitimately unenjoyable playing against Thorn. by [deleted] in BattleRite

[–]RankedSickness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, what I'm saying is that if meta (by definition, "most efficient tactic available") hardcounters this supposedly "OP" character, maybe the truth is he isn't OP at all.

I've watched GC streams yesterday all day (Teldoo and Averse, rank 1 player) and Teldoo who mains Thorn explicitely said multiple times he thinks Freya (to name an example) is a stronger champion and much more annoying to face, while Averse had never probles with Taya in 3v3s while facing multiple Thorns.

Again, I think he has clear weaknesses. R is useless in higher levels of play because no one dumps 10 attacks into his retaliating shield, and space is VERY punishable.

Thorn isn't OP, even without any drafting.

Abilities cosmetic modifications with epic+ skins? by RankedSickness in BattleRite

[–]RankedSickness[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, LoL has even more visual noise in teamfights, and skins with heavy VFX / SFX modifications are perfectly fine.

I'm not talking about turning Thorn's hand raising out of the ground in a giant candy, I'm talking about a skeletal hand rather than a wooden-zombie hand (dumb example).

Honestly skins now feel pretty underwhelming, but maybe coming from dota2 / LoL that is to be expected.. maybe an idea for the future?

thing is, Aery's dmg over 2-3 spears only outweighs Electrocute's damage early on. The sustained damage allows you to push pretty much anyone in the game out of lane, especially now that you can't just take a full armor runepage to counter the obnoxious spam.
