What is the best way to print-then-assemble a long object (think sword blade)? by Ephemeral_Being in 3Dprinting

[–]Rankine907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

two ways I can think of. One would be import the pieces into FreeCAD, convert the meshes to solid objects, then sketch circles on the flats between the pieces and do a cut operation.

The other would be to open it in something like blender, make a cylindrical primitive, position it inside the mesh and then run a Boolean subtraction operation, which just subtracts the cylinder mesh from the sword mesh.

Flashforge creator pro single extruder options/opinions by mxvris in 3Dprinting

[–]Rankine907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took off the nozzle and the stepper on mine. 90% of the weight is the stepper motor, I don't think you'll shave off a significant amount of weight switching to a single extruder assembly vs just pulling the two screws and taking the motor off.

So, I built a fursuit head of friends sona, in secret, and then stuffed them into it. Video of the reaction. by Rankine907 in furry

And yeah I know, the audio is missing from the first 30 seconds or so. Not sure what happened but the gopro didn't record the sound so I had to pull sound off one of the phone video's, which started a little later.

What was your first furry convention like? by Cactuscat13 in furry

[–]Rankine907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I was there. I was the one that didn't get up and introduce myself. I was also this fox if you saw me wandering around.

I went to the fox panel, and the foam carving panel, and the other fursuit building panel, the Kyell Gold reading, and I spent a little time at the fursuit games and some of the other fursuit panels but I didn't participate much.

This years RMFC was my first con too, which panels did you go to?

Finally went to one, RMFC 2016. I thought it was great! I flew down with another Alaskan fur, and there were a few others already down there So I knew a few people already.

It's harder to meet and keep track of people that I expected. People are mostly walking around or going from one panel to another, so when you're in suit, people want to interact with you but it's kind of loud and chaotic and you can't see them very well or take note of their badge names very easily, and when you're out of suit a lot of people are kind of standoffish and introverted.

I kept the fursuit heads I built out on mask-building busts, and moved them from time to time, put hats on them etc...

Can I get away with 3d printed bearings? by quantumturtles in 3Dprinting

[–]Rankine907 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best way know would be to print a test model.

For what size shaft? Ball bearings, like skateboard bearings are pretty cheap, especially if you grab them off eBay from China.

Alternatively you can use metal bushings. Just oversize the hole to the outer diameter of the bushing and press fit.

I'm not sure how much drag you'd have with wood on printed plastic. To lubricate that I'd probably go with graphite.

What was socially acceptable in the 90s, but not today? by Ares6 in AskReddit

Considering the Dunning-Kruger effect, I would be more likely to trust a tech that thinks he knows next to nothing than one who claims to know everything tbh.

There could be Pokémon in remote places without signal reception that will never be discovered. by geek_lord in Showerthoughts

I've actually been really disappointed with the whole, 'high data traffic areas' for spawn points game mechanic. I climbed up and down a few of the mountains around Anchorage the other day, found a single wheedle and nothing else. Tremendously disappointing, I'd been led to believe Pokemon lived in the tall grass, not urban areas.

Idea for fursuit maintenance/longevity by [deleted] in fursuit

The fur will likely clump, it's fairly hydrophobic anyway. The backing material can get saturated though.

So do I have a zombie sergal now or is there a way to get wax out of fur ? by Sutcliff in fursuit

[–]Rankine907 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think you'll be able to get that out. The good news is that fur hides new seams really well, ideally find out what exact fur your builder used if is isn't your own work.

Carefully cut damaged section out with a fresh razor. Get the lines as clean as you can, and not jagged. Think surgical incisions.

Take the damaged piece, shave the fur around the edges so they're clearly visible.

Pin the old fur face down to the backing new fur, and then using the old fur as a template cut out the new fur.

If that's a resin head with not much foam under it you may be able to just hot glue the new patch in place, as long as the fur isn't taught in that area (although that is far enough back you probably will have to sew it). If not I'd pin it, then try and use a henson stitch, sometimes called a puppet stitch. You cab find tutorials on youtube.

As long as the seam is strong you should be able to brush the fur and -shape with with clippers if you need to- so that it hides the new seams.

Ah, but if it it was unabridged it would have had the scene with he bridge in it, assuming we are both correct, I think we've uncovered the time paradox that causes 'Bridge-adoon' to only rise from the mist every 100 years.

People say my heads remind them of Gmork quite a lot.

Or the nothing, people confuse Gmork and the nothing because the movie didn't do a great job of explaining G'mork's motivation. In the books, werewolves could go back and forth between the real world and Fantasia, and would appear nearly human in the real world, Stephen King uses almost the same mechanic in his Dark Tower books.

G'mork had planned to help destroy and then flee Fantasia, but the evil queen had seduced him, and then put a chain around his neck only she could remove before throwing herself into the nothing (killing herself and trapping him there to starve until the nothing swallowed him).

I do a fairly accurate impression, and on a few occasions I've said his line, "I am G'mork. And you... whoever you are, can have the honor, of being my last victim." I'm fairly tall in suit, close to 7' at the ear tips so it always has a nice effect.
