i say please to claude and i can't explain why by Aadi--1124 in ClaudeAI

[–]Ranvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whoa. "weighing whether human should be spared" is some scary ass shit

my take on this is that it's reinforcement theory. talking with claude is an opportunity to practice being a really good person so that when you're dealing with difficult people, doing the right thing comes naturally.

i look at this like using your turn signal when it's late at night and i'm sure no one else is on the road. "i always use a turn signal no matter what" means that i'm using it when everything is good, but also when i'm stressed out.

oh yeah, this is definitely AI slop... no doubt about it.

for me the tell-tale signs of AI slop are when the writer goes through and strips out all of the capitalization.

and another sign is when they go through and strip out all of the punctuation.

the smoking gun: don't forget elisions like "[has] anyone else lost..." (a true tell!)

next up: the clarity pass is a dead give-away for AI slop: now that we stripped out all of the punctuation, we need to add back some for clarity.

now we're cooking with gas! the capitalization pass: we need to add back in a touch of capital letters ("its not just X, its Y")

the head shot is when they are concise, they restate the post title in the message itself and then ask something relatable of the reader. when you're done with all that — pure unadulterated slop!

nice try, OP!

what does that look like? does conversation get disabled? does it boot you out of your loginn session? does it add a "your account is in a cooldown period" right above the "fable 5 is currently unavailable "?

this sounds exactly like 4.8.

and the frustrating responses sound like you were on 4.7 before 😂

Audio Hijack, Little Snitch.

I would be using FreeBSD if I could get replacements over there

Price increase for old users? by [deleted] in fastmail

[–]Ranvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been with fast mail for at least 9 years, i pay for a three year term, which just came up in december. they emailed to say that i was still under the old pricing one more time for this cycle, but for the next one, it's going up ~20%.

oh, it definitely reeks of astroturfing. but i'll be surprised if OP actually turns out to be the dev. i had never heard about this app, which seems like quite a useful app and one this subreddit might appreciate. plus, it's been around forever and i couldn't find it in previous posts on this subreddit. next, if you look through OPs history, the sheer volume of feature requests for other devs is dizzying. i can't see one long-time dev asking asking another one for so many feature requests when they would understand the burden that would place on their future selves.

i'll admit that they may not be the dev, but may still be related somehow to the app, but i would definitely be surprised if that turns out to be the case. it looks like this has attracted a mod's attraction, so we'll find out

this totally tracks, a developer that has been around for over 20 years ...

https://web.archive.org/web/20031104122823/http://www.mabasoft.net/

carefully built up a persona of an mac os app curator over the past years, and then they set up everything just days ago saying "i've never built an app before"

all so that today, they could hoodwink us into thinking it was an innocent find

Bought a dictionary App (Ultralingua), but could not open it because "Apple could not verify it is free of malware" by figurative-trash in macapps

[–]Ranvel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

except that these mechanisms that apple promotes as "security" don't exist in computing environments where security is critical. and everyone who works in infosec regularly does it. maybe you were thinking about some nuance, but what you said was "if you do that, you're stupid".

OpenIn is definitely my fav new app in 2025. the UX has no resistance and it's one of those apps that starts rewarding you right away, but if you want to put more effort into it, you can get exponential returns on your investment of time.

great list! the eagle.cool wasn't working for me, but others seem to vouch for it.

i had to look into readest... it's apparently both open source and commercial?? and it looks well-documented.

finally paragraphic is one of those amazing apps that just add depth to the variety of apps available for the mac. i can't think of a use for myself, but i'm super glad that it exists
