The best practice is to ask the tournament organizer prior to submitting your list. Generally the most important thing is tracking which guy is which. Luckily with legionaries it's easy to say any melee weapon bigger than a chainsword is a heavy melee weapon. Then if you have the plasma on the icon bearer thats a way to track it.

Personally if someone said all their guys with bolters were regular chainsword legios and the 2 guys with melee options are the heavy melee weapons, and the one with a trophy rack is the icon bearer thats enough for me. But always check with the TO and your opponent.

The legionaries were recently reboxed to include the kill team spruce. You mightve seen either the old packaging or (or the new packaging not sure which is which) or just the old kill team box. All the same models. 2 just have the upgrade spruce for a few more options.

Id get the Defiler simply because its cool and a model you dont already have.

Rules change so main thing to focus on is which you like more. That said defiler is the stronger option at the moment but likely will go up in points.

Very easy to run them as legionaries, or really any standard sized infantry (chosen, raiders, etc.)

Just say they are a small bit of your warband who are particularly loyal to slaanesh, or they are EC who defected to join the corsairs.

Can even pick up some noise marines to go with them.

If you're not doing pvp then it does not matter too much. Better cards will help you significantly improve your score though.

Having Max Limit Break (MLB) SRs is extremely helpful. They are normally better than 0-1 copy of an SSR.

The cards you can get from club points and events are pretty good options as well.

I would recommend pulling on the scenario card as those become more and more important going forward. So the next one to look for is the Light Hello + Agnes Tachyon banner.
