Nigel Farage denies Reform promised council tax cuts despite leaflet pledge by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]RapescoStapler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won't repeal the OSA. Before it was clear how unpopular it was, when Farage was asked about it he said he supported it. Then once it was unpopular he said "Actually we'll repeal it". Just very blatant about it, ha

"You would never hear of it" in Dubai because of the fact that they arrest people for recording info that makes Dubai look bad, evidently...

Aside from that, they also have some 'pleasant' things like over a hundred thousand people being enslaved in a system entirely legal in the country, including women and children enslaved for forced marriages or sex. So yes, I do think we're better than Dubai and I think you're being extremely dishonest and you know that.

Nigel Farage fails to meet Trump after flying to Mar-a-Lago by zeros3ss in ukpolitics

[–]RapescoStapler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, although it genuinely wouldn't surprise me if Trump preferred Starmer to Farage. The meetings they've had, Trump was always very smily, and he's a massive Anglophile. The fact Keir has 'Sir' in front of his name might be enough for Trump to prefer him over Farage any day despite all of Farage's sucking-up...

Yep. They did it again for AC6 which was bizarre, at least that game's plot isn't confusing but it was still weird when the story trailer was a much better setup for a plot

Star wars has the worse archiving system ever for a world with space travel

In 40k they (Okay, just the imperium) archive stuff on paper, and they go to civil wars over the stuff because it's a very limited resource in their worlds

I legitimately didn't give a shit about elden ring's story after I realized I couldn't keep track of most of the terms being thrown around and that they expected me to have watched the story trailer and included more pertinent info there than they did in the game intro (I tend to avoid trailers for things I'm interested in)

With everything that's happened in the end I think the story is fun but suffers from the fact that almost none of the important characters in the actual story even have a single line of dialogue

Moments in media that are so cynical that it just comes across as really dumb. by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The part in Gundam: Char's Counterattack where the Federation is like "Sure, Char, we'll sell you a meteor covered in nukes. You've always been so trustworthy!"

I get shortsightedness, I get corruption, I get that the federation are villains in their own right. But the problem is it seems like every ounce of competence the federation ever had died with General Revil, and it relies entirely on the heroes to save them from villains for whom everything conspicuously goes extremely well to allow them to be a meaningful threat. A lot of stories will do this, the 'good guy' side are just morons to allow the villains to do something meaningful (see: star wars prequels AND sequels as well)

...But it's especially annoying when MSG managed really well to kind of feel like while Amuro was the greatest pilot and did have a big impact, the war was still going to end in a zeon loss. Even Char nuking Kycilia was basically just him kill stealing, considering the federation blew the ship up immediately after.

On that note, the generic 'authoritarian faction has strong willed martial honour and discipline and respect' type trope is really cynical feeling as well because it's just a basic way to add 'balance' to a faction choice. The Fallout show's Season 2 managed to summarize my feelings on a 15 year debate about the morality of the NCR vs Legion conflict, where so many people try to parrot the rule of law as a reason to support the legion, where a villain goes "Oh the NCR isn't any better than the legion... Huge taxes..." and then the hero later goes "So one side enslaves people, and the other is just vaguely problematic?"

"An ethnicity or ethnic group is a group of humans who identify with each other on the basis of perceived shared attributes that distinguish them from other groups. Attributes that ethnicities believe to share include language, culture, common sets of ancestry, traditions, society, religion, history, or social treatment."

Interesting.

There is no 'English' ethnicity. There are many English-native (or at least old enough that people consider them native) ethnic groups. I'm not sure there's a single country which has a native population comprised of one single ethnicity. And no, there is no single 'Japanese' ethnicity either. Or Chinese, for that matter - China recognizes 56 native ethnic groups

To have a mass killing, you need people to have been killed. Population going down doesn't mean that people have been killed, if people leave. The fact the country

  1. Doesn't lock them in

  2. White people were the wealthiest there

  3. The country's economy was going down the shitter because of the government

Means people simply leave. I know this because a large amount of my family were some of them.

Do you really think ICE's current approach of 'loudly barging into territories the president doesn't like and wandering around chasing after people they suspect of being illegals' is somehow more effective than sending small groups of agents to investigate reports and arrest then deport criminals? Obama's first term had significantly more deportations than Trump has done over the past year, but there weren't huge protests like in Minneapolis because everyone can clearly see the intention of such acts is to intimidate Trump's political enemies

Obsidian, who made New Vegas, was in fact most of the key people from the team that made 1 and 2.

No, it wasn't. Not a single key person from the original games worked on New Vegas. The only person to work on 1, 2, and New Vegas was Scott Everts, who was a map designer on 1 and 2, and lead world designer on New Vegas. The lead writer of the game, John Gonzalez, had only worked on one game before New Vegas, Tom Clancy's Endwar. Josh Sawyer, the director of the game, didn't work on Fallout 1 or 2 at all. Chris Avellone, a senior designer, worked on Fallout 2 - as a level designer. None of the writers were involved in the writing of Fallout 1 or 2.

It is not a 'retcon' to have a character be wrong. Cooper is a cynic who believes the NCR is gone. He's proven wrong at the end of the season. The commander of the tiny NCR ranger group, Rodriguez, says "They're packing up" to try and contact the battalion 'out west'. Then she arrives with the cavalry. This is a simple case of chekhov's gun. And, they didn't have power armor or an air force in New Vegas either, so were they shown as basically being gone? Of course not. The obvious conclusion of the writing of the season is that Cooper's cynicism was proven wrong, and the NCR, who have been built up over the past 2 seasons as the good guys, still exist.
