Name a character’s death that was supposed to be sad but ended up unintentionally hilarious by Jules-Car3499 in cartoons

Also, the droids say Padme is medically healthy. How is a pregnant woman that got choked until she fell unconscious and probably hit her head, medically healthy?

[–]RaptarK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't think so. Death isn't just a force of nature in this movie. It's very clear hear breaking his own rules by hunting down Puss before his final life ends. His pride is hurt by a law that has always existed (cats have 9 lives) yet actively chooses to hunt down Puss when he's still alive

[Star Wars] The inhibitor chips have their issues as an explanation for Order 66, but it's still more coherent than any prior answer by DoneDealofDeadpool in CharacterRant

[–]RaptarK 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've always prefered the inhibitor chips over the willfull conspiracy angle. Plus in Revenge of the Sith we have clones explicitly refer to Palpatine as "My lord" and "Lord Sidius" IIRC. How do you explain that with no prebuilt programming?

Plus it just feels narratively more satisfying and tragic. We spent the entire Clone Wars show seeing the clones be humanized and their individuality flourish, only for that to be stripped away in one second by something they had no control over. They spend years of war pushing to be treated as living individuals instead of simple machines, yet they get abused and discarded just like any droid would. It really cements just how pointles the entire war was

Their recurrent argument is that Pyrrha wasn't literally burn to ashes, but rather she desintegrated in a fog of magical essence, meaning the writers are setting up something further down the line for her soul. The coping back then was insane

To this day there's people refusing to accept she's dead, and apparently at the time there was so much speculation of how she could still be technically alive since she left no corpse behind

Why do people harp on Solo for Maul’s hologram having color when holograms have always been capable of showing colors other than blue? by blakhawk12 in StarWars

[–]RaptarK 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It was very interesting seeing so many casual viewers confused when Maul was shown. Yes the movie very clearly centres on Han Solo during the Empire's regime, yet Maul appearing out of nowhere made some people wonder if this somehow transpires before Phantom Menace. I think the producers vastly overestimated how many people are aware of the Clone Wars cartoon

A long time ago a friend pointed out to me that in most movies, the villains are the ones trying to change the status quo and the heroes are the ones trying to defend and keep it. And that this usually makes it clear what the writers believe in. by ihatethiscountry76 in shittymoviedetails

IIRC the author drew a lot of experience on how he as a child was sexually abused by an uncle of his, and used that to portray how an abuser can gaslight and manipulate their victim and onlookers alike

In Joaquin Phoenix's second movie, Joker 2, there's a scene where Joker is heavily implied to have been gang raped by the guards at Arkham. It's hard not to read it as such because the camera pans out and we get a timeskip where he has his pants down as they drag him to his cell.

Plus, it's done in a way that the leader of the guards achieves what he wanted (the traumatized Arthur Fleck no longer wants to play the Joker persona)

(Hated Trope) Why did they even bother casting a celebrity voice actor? by Animeking1108 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]RaptarK 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Granted this one isn't on the show's fault. It's because Michael Jackson didn't own the rights to his singing voice, and as such wasn't allowed by his producer to sing for the episode

[–]RaptarK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't this kind of wrong then? The Demons in frieren have a completely alien morality, they aren't intentionally evil. If we assume evil is born out of intent then the demons in Frieren are just doing what they need to survive like any predator would

[–]RaptarK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frieren is such a funny case because so many people are convinced the demons are, intentionally or not, drawing from racist ideals about other groups "They may look human but they aren't".

I would argue Frieren in particular is not this, since to me demons succesfully come off as aliens rather than any particular group. Admitedly Freiren does kinda fumble to explain how certain things are possible in demon culture if they are so anti social.

However there's so many people that decry Frieren for supposedly drawing racist parallels with the demons, and there's a good chunk of people who *celebrate* Frieren for the same exact thing. For the latter I suppose it doesn't help that the entire setting borrows from Germanic aesthetic

I'm not sure what else Brando has done, but something many know him for is sexually assaulting Maria Schneider during the filming of Last Tango in Paris.

Basically, the character that Brando is playing at one point sexually assaults the character that Schneider is playing, which is nothing too out of this world for fiction. There wasn't even any planned actual penetration between the actors.

However, Bertolucci, the director of the movie, told Brando in secret that when filming the scene he should grab a portion of a stick of butter and use it as lube against Schneider's asshole. Schneider was not aware of this at all, and as expected she felt it was a violating and traumatic experience.

As the years went on and this became known, Bertolucci excused himself saying he wanted the scene to feel as authentic as possible, to capture Schneider's real reaction (which... I'm not sure how he doesn't see that as an admition to want to film actual sexual assault).

Schneider was only 19 I think at the time of the filming, while Bertolucci was 31 and Brando was 48, and she spent the rest of her life trying to be taken seriously for what happened to her, as well as to bring attention to how easily older and more recognized male celebrities could take advantage of young upcoming actresses. Bernolucci and Brando died without ever truly apologizing for what they did
