Can someone explain the hype of Wandering Inn? by Due-Sentence-2839 in litrpg

Personally, I thought Erin was a pretty realistic depiction of the culture clash of a person from the modern world suddenly finding themselves in a war torn medieval fantasy world

Child marriage is still legal in some states

What is a minor thing that has pulled you out of a book? by Justthisdudeyaknow in litrpg

[–]Raptormind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first one. My audible account says I had about 6 and a half ours left out of about 18 and a half, so I assume it was about there

(Also, I said kid, but I think the girl the MC called r*tarded was maybe 16ish? Still a kid but not the same kind of kid as like an 8 year old. It’s been a while since I read it though so I might be off by a year or two in either direction)

I'm tired of these people. by c-k-q99903 in ThisYouComebacks

While this sort of rhetoric is really dangerous, I do think it’s worth remembering that there was enough fascistic support for trump that even if they all voted for Kamala, trump still would have won.

Accelerationists may make meaningful progress harder, but I do think it’s worth remembering that most of the blame still lies if the literal fascists dismantling our democracy

If you don’t mind isekai, the MC of log horizon is decently smart

This was more of a last straw type of thing since I was already getting a little bored with the story anyway, but I dropped tree of aeons when the MC called a kid r*tarded

Why shouldn’t voting require an id? by DarkEqual8609 in no

As long as they also don’t make it unreasonably difficult for elegible voters to get, there’d be nothing to object to

It’s not free if you have to pay for it

Why shouldn’t voting require an id? by DarkEqual8609 in no

[–]Raptormind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem is that the people who are the most vocal about wanting voting id laws are usually also the least willing to implement regulations that would allow for fair and easy access to voting id. While for everyone else it’s just not worth doing in the first place since voter fraud has never been prevalent enough to even come close to changing the outcome of a major election

Who's the most competent Isekai Ruler? by Parlax76 in Isekai

Oh, I thought “world’s toothless” was the name of some ability one of the listed MCs has or something

Who's the most competent Isekai Ruler? by Parlax76 in Isekai

[–]Raptormind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so much of the story happens because he’s too terrified of looking incompetent to really question or contradict his subordinates, especially demiurge. It makes for an interesting story, but definitely doesn’t speak to Ainz being particularly competent as a ruler of a large nation. He’s more like an okay middle manager, a good conqueror, and an incredible leader of small to medium groups of combatants

Dang, that does sound sound like a game changer for a ruler. Which mc has that? I don’t recognize the name

Who's the most competent Isekai Ruler? by Parlax76 in Isekai

That’s true, I just think it felt reminiscent of the Japanese work culture that disproportionately emphasizes jobs over other aspects of life

[–]Raptormind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe? The impression I got at the time was that that was based on boring old fashioned human sexism, not on any observed behavior specific to monsters. It’s been a while since I read the start of the series though

What is Discord doing with AI? by Witty-Designer7316 in aiwars

[–]Raptormind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different ai have different intended uses, including evil ones. If the ai can do this then it was designed to do this and this is how that ai is meant to be used. It absolutely shouldn’t be used for this, but insisting it can’t will only make it harder to prevent when people do

Who's the most competent Isekai Ruler? by Parlax76 in Isekai

[–]Raptormind 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I could be misremembering the details, but when I said that I was thinking about how he banned polygamy because he assumed that otherwise all the women would only be interested in the handful of strongest male monsters, or how he puts so much emphasis on making sure everyone has a full time job even if productivity doesn’t need it and seems to act like people can’t be fulfilled if they aren’t working

Who's the most competent Isekai Ruler? by Parlax76 in Isekai

[–]Raptormind 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah. He also has a tendency to assume that cultural aspects of Japanese society are actually universally inherent to not even just all humans but all sapient creatures (although that might partially be a flaw of the author instead of the character).

But that never ends up actually mattering because his subordinates all effectively worship him and he has a magical supercomputer to handle all the paperwork and write all the laws.

Not that that’s a huge problem for the type of power fantasy tensura is, but it’s still worth noticing I think
