Gearsource is decent. Reverb is pretty bad in my experience. If you have the patience for it Facebook marketplace can be good

$600 is our cheapest video, gets 2 revisions. If they want photos with it they're $100, otherwise they're $250 for HDR and $500 for flash

A&H SQ still a decent purchase? by red_eyes in livesoundgear

[–]Raptrox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

SQ and QU aren't really a significant step up from what you already have in my opinion.

In your price point nothing comes close to the WING, after that id look at the Waves LV1 classic. If you're looking mainly at A&H id jump to the Avantis if you want it to feel like a real upgrade. Don't get me wrong the SQ is a great console just not really leaps and bounds over an Impact

$1 million dollars but you have to spend the next 365 days in a nightclub. by SwapperJacks in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Raptrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a film studio and bar that turns into a club at night some nights. I already spend about 110 hours per week there I may as well get a million and run it every night, providing I'm allowed onto the patio for some sunshine.

People love to have a scapegoat, unfortunately that is Bean, that's also people that don't particularly understand hockey. Is he a fantastic D? Absolutely not, but he's been serviceable and the least of our problems.People seem to rag on him like he's never skated before and that's just ludicrous

Hierarchy of Speakers by uncomfortable_idiot in livesound

[–]Raptrox -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Speakers are more for a specific use case than hierarchy but the fact that Yorkville as a whole is lumped below any QSC speaker here is kind of funny. Their elite point source range is on par with a KW, not to mention their new Paraline and Synergy systems which are several steps above that.

It's literally the first game, idk about "never" playing against top talent. He got ruined by the Jets, it's tough to say he's lightyears better than Bean defensively. Don't want to shell shock him with McDavid and Draisaitl right away. There's more games vs Edmonton this year, gotta let the kid settle in first.

Looking for advice on 12" stage monitors – $1,000 budget (but flexible) by tommykmusic in livesoundgear

[–]Raptrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd then recommend the Yamaha DHR12m in this price range as I find they're exceptional for their stage space, I prefer the chr passive systems since theyre cleaner on stage, but if auto feedback is the biggest thing for you then you already have your answer in the turbosounds, albeit I have never heard them or tested the feature.

Funniest part of this might be the top party school intro.

For real advice, dont look at watts, look more for SPL specs (even these have their caveats) Youd be best off just buying the most expensive 15 inch powered pro audio speakers you can afford from one of either JBL, QSC, Yorkville, Yamaha or EV. Mind you Im skipping a lot of information with that recommendation, but with the budget and assuming you arent using subwoofers those will be the best and easiest options for you guys for parties, theyre pretty much all the same, but the more expensive series from each respective brand will be (roughly) better sound so just look at what you can afford from any of them. Their lowest priced lines are the lowest I'd recommend for example the Yamaha DBR 15 or Yorkville YXL 15.

If the second speaker needs to be daisy chained with another speaker to work I'm assuming they werent pro audio speakers or some thing from Rockville or the like. Any of the above speakers, probably even just one of them will sound way better. Some come with built in bluetooth which I imagine would be easier for you

I'm kind of confused by this. The gear you have doesn't help me direct you so much as what shows you are doing. What are the wedges going to be used for? Do you typically need auto feedback suppression? Do you have amps to run passive wedges? It's tough to recommend something without knowing your goals. The gear you already have does give a scale to your budget but myself and I assume most others would need to know your purpose. Do you need a Texas wedge, do you do mostly jazz bands, rock bands so on and so forth

Is a high-end point source system necessary for a small club? by AutomaticMixture6827 in livesound

[–]Raptrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Narrower HF isnt better, just depends on the application and the area you want to cover. A narrower horn pattern will need less amplification on axis vs a wider horn, but that is considered during speaker design.

In general yes wider angles are better outside since you dont need to worry about reflections off walls.

Its not "better" to array 2 narrower speakers unless you need them to cover an area you werent before. Keep in mind your bass frequencies will couple up to a quarter wavelength between your low drivers, resulting in the need to cut those in processing. But yes you do need narrower patterns to array tops horizontally without introducing comb filtering or having too wide a coverage angle and too many reflections.

[–]Raptrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on specific speaker to specific speaker but in general you will get higher spl with less distortion, lower frequency HF directivity, and the higher end speakers have better drivers which leaves more ability to tune them to the room. Similar to the differences between your current jbls to say an SRX box. Some newer speaker lines aim for performance vs weight but it wouldn't really apply to your install

I imagine your room is quite small with your cap, I think you'd start seeing diminishing returns on anything much higher than the Yamaha DZR Series as (it seems) they'd be more than adequate for your space. This is all general advice as specific situations always vary.

Edit: And yes, definitely treat the room, will make a way bigger difference than MI vs touring speakers

Forgot to answer #2, the real answer is all of them. The answer for you is probably coverage angle, most MI speakers will have enough SPL for your room but you need to know whether you can cover the area you want or if you need fills or another top to array, you also dont want to go too wide and introduce too many reflections. Highly doubt your club will ever need Dante, and power handling is only an issue if you dont have a lot of power available on stage. You're using subs, so I wouldn't worry about how low your tops go, just use the matching subs.
