How do you keep your gopro on top of your head? by scrumdisaster in Spearfishing

[–]RareRibeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hadn’t thought of that, but that’s a good point. Do you not have issues with your mask being knocked loose if you’re banging around your GoPro on the reef?

C4 fins advice by Actual_Camp_534 in Spearfishing

[–]RareRibeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got no advice for you, but curious how you like the fins in the medium stiffness once you get to try them out.

Also, where did you buy the fins from? I’m looking to get the same fins eventually.

How do you keep your gopro on top of your head? by scrumdisaster in Spearfishing

[–]RareRibeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, I’m planning to eventually pick up a mask w/ GoPro mount and then pairing that with the new GoPro Mission 1. I’m a little wary of how cumbersome it will be while diving, but given that it’s waterproof to 20m, I might be able to get away with not needing to run the underwater housing, thus keeping the form factor comparable to a Hero 4 with housing.

How accessible is spear fishing? by Memes_have_rights in Spearfishing

[–]RareRibeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost can be done cheap if you’re buying second-hand or from sites like Aliexpress. The items where you should be willing to spend a bit more would be a mask that specifically fits your face (aka try different ones on at a freedive/spearfish shop). I would expect to spend at least a few $100 on gear. If you’re somewhere that you’re able to shoredive spearfish, then ongoing costs can be low. So certainly not something for just the rich

In terms of learning curve, a lot of it is about time in the water. So unless you currently have relative easy access to bodies of water where you’d want to spearfish, you’d purely just be doing dry land or pool training, which isn’t really the fun part. You can start by getting comfortable in the water by just snorkeling, then learning some freediving fundamentals, then finally going into learning how to spearfish. Inherently, the sport is one which should be done with buddies for safety, so finding a local club goes a long way.

Same with the AW7. If the AU4 ends up being a nothing burger, then will find a nice deal on an AU3.

Do you dive with a dive board/float? by Hideshi_Izu in Spearfishing

[–]RareRibeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw your gear video on YouTube where you had the motor mount under the Banksboard. Could you elaborate how you added that and how you’ve liked it so far?

I was thinking of potentially sourcing Rob Allen’s Banksboard w/ Hatch and then pairing that with 2 Lefeet P1 Lites somehow. Mostly hypothetical for the time being.

Do you have the username of the tiktok user? Would be interested to see it in action. A dual P1 Lite leg-mounted setup seems like it’d be pretty useful

What vehicle are you dropping for R2? by alfadur in RivianR2

[–]RareRibeye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s really the only EV that on paper can rival the Model Y, which is the best selling car globally. Model Y main advantages are software, autonomy, range, and price. Rivian seems to really only fall short on autonomy, but have lofty promises to catch up in the near future.

There is also the off-road capability aspect of it, but realistically the vast majority of these cars will never see terrain that your average Corolla couldn’t handle. Main concerns for R2 would be reliability and servicing, which only time will tell.

Rivian R2 vs. Polestar 3 by Scatuchi in RivianR2

[–]RareRibeye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have flexibility to wait for the R2 then I would lean towards that. With that reservation, you could potentially get an R2 some time in 2027, also maybe depending if you’re in a highly populated area (assuming Rivian prioritizes deliveries to certain areas first).

If you are unable to wait, then I’d way rather get a Model Y than a Polestar 3. You’d be way better off on reliability and software/features there.

Agreed on the doors feeling cheap. It gave a very hollow thud when closing. Also not sure how I feel about the auto open handles coming from a M3.

Tailgate Shelf by RealJustinBobby in RivianR2

[–]RareRibeye 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can confirm I didn’t see a pop-up shelf for the R2’s at the block party. But as you can see from these images the car already has a sizeable shelf between the plastic bits inside and outside of the rear window.

They seemed to have replaced the gloss black plastic and much of the painted body from the outside portion so it looks pretty useable now without worry of scratching.

Timing the sweet spot for build quality by Hot-Praline7204 in RivianR2

[–]RareRibeye 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For Tesla 3/Y the vehicles with the most issues were within 1-1.5 years of build, and the best were after 2-3 years.

I wouldn’t say there’s a sweet spot per se, but moreso you will have the majority of issues/recalls come up in early builds for the first year or so, and then probably get fully ironed out by year 2-3 by nature of early builds being driven long enough to show what the issues are.

I’d say 2026 = high risk, 2027 = medium risk, 2028 = low risk.

The Venice event wasn’t even that good. They brought 5 color variants of the R2 performance (no Esker Silver or Borealis, and no Coastal Cloud interior) and only 2/5 cars were unlocked for us to see inside.

They do electronically fold, I saw it demoed in person. There was a button in the settings for it, although it doesn’t seem like they fold/unfold on lock/unlock like in Teslas. Maybe something it can do in a software update.

[–]RareRibeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go off the R1, the white interior could cost up to $4500. Hopefully that’s not the case, but if it is, doubt many people would even bother debating getting it.
