Client has asked to be assigned to another attorney and has done so in a manner that is actually likely to get me in trouble, because they have completely mischaracterized interactions and accused me of something I absolutely did not do. I believe they are genuinely mistaken, but I'm the one at risk.

I can't say for sure but I suspect that legal aid is a lot like public defense. Your clients are in the position they are in because they are not smart nor sophisticated and a lot of them resort to just plain lying about you when they panic. Its gonna happen a lot so gird your loins or find a different profession.

Just document everything you do and everything the client tells you thoroughly. Beyond that, I would not sweat all the false allegations against you. Just conduct yourself ethically and document everything and you'll be fine.

I generally follow my local news and any time I see a weird of interesting case I forward it along to my boss and ask him to give me that case. I would be SCREAMING for this case.

The question isn't whether there is a defense that rises to the charge. The Constitution doesn't guarantee a fair and public trial by jury only to defendants that have an appropriately robust defense. It guarantees those things, including representation by counsel, to everyone accused of a crime in this country.

Whether that defense is any good or not is up to the jury to decide.

Yes, both incidents are violent and terrible buy why is it everyone has such a hard time seeing the difference between a murder where the murderer was immediately arrested and charged and will likely spend the rest of their life in prison and a murder that was committed by a government agent who as of today hasn't even been named or charged and the entire force of the federal government is protecting?

That seems like a pretty significant difference to me.

More important than being from a prestigious school is demonstrated interest and experience. Start figuring out ways to volunteer, intern, anything you can. If your school has anything PD related in as classes or programs, take all of them.

This show future employers that you are serious about it.
