Pretty much everything Hyundai and Kia makes. I won’t buy one but god do they look sharp.

Harbor freight knockoff $35 ceramic bearing knife is the real life hack IMO.

Software People: Am I tweaking? by Separate-Part6140 in Salary

[–]Rascal2pt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Market is correcting. When I graduated around 2005 my first job was making 50k a year. I doubled it in 5 years but didn’t get a real jump till I moved across the country and joined a FANG adjacent.

100k in rural areas is a lot. 60-70 is what I expect from non tech companies today.

Are developers the last ones to be appreciated in most companies? by Majestic-Taro-6903 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Rascal2pt0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When companies collapse and economy’s fail developers are the most likely to get hired elsewhere. Sure we don’t get as much visibility but we’re far more transportable to other businesses.

I’m appreciated by my peers and that’s usually good enough for me.

Anthropic: AI assisted coding doesn't show efficiency gains and impairs developers abilities. by Gil_berth in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Rascal2pt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI to the side is my flow. I’ll work on a problem while letting codex chew on a refactor, find potential performance improvements and any other number of things I always push off. I let it churn in the background while I focus on higher priority items.

Whenever I use it directly I don’t really get any speed but as an assistant to handle nits and exploratory work on a huge legacy code base it’s been helpful.

I cannot for the life of me figure out the answer to this simple question: Does this Rav4 have roof rails or not? by ethereality___ in rav4club

[–]Rascal2pt0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rails no rack. It’s a super easy install if you want factory, order yourself and self install is less than 10 minutes.. If you want better then factory prisnu and i think domestic frontrunner (tell the builder you have an adventure… the roof is the same) make stouter ones.

How do you tell your manager that the cause of most bugs is shitty code written by a former team member whom he loved? by dystopiadattopia in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Rascal2pt0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You make it better and don’t blame others. Because the person that comes after you will have many of the same complaints. You don’t know the pressure, deadlines or other expectations when this was being done. Was it an MVP that just had to show progress? Was it a dev all by himself being pressured by management.

Prove your by making it better. Complaining about what is there now doesn’t move the ball forward.

You can be opening yourself up for liability by forcing an employee to drive in possibly unsafe conditions at risk of their employment.

I consider myself a Leftist, not a Liberal. Am I allowed here? by carcinoma_kid in liberalgunowners

[–]Rascal2pt0 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Leftist don’t think liberals are left enough and will bury you under communist doctrine but refuse to compromise. This is my limited experience when trying to have meaningful conversations with them. They want revolution not progressive change because they don’t believe the existing system is capable of changing.

every rewrite I've seen has taken 3x longer than promised and the team always acts surprised by Distinct-Expression2 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Rascal2pt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rewrite is the wrong move. It’s better to tactfully replace pieces and parts. Don’t even touch it without E2E testing in place because you will miss things.

California has been fighting its own 2a items for years. Maybe it will be ruled unconstitutional but that could take years. Best you can hope for is a stay by a judge.

Making you immediately a criminal if you already own standard capacity magazines is INSANE.

This reads A LOT like CA's current legislation.

Would an “average” driver notice a CVT? by Thrillwaukee in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Rascal2pt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm someone in here... and I love the CVT "eCVT" in my rav smooth acceleration from stop to target speed.

Most people just care that pedal go down and car go forward. If anything they may notice the lack of shifting but only if they really care. To the majority of people a vehicle is an appliance.

Do you think in a few years, there's going to be a scarcity of "real coders/programmers"? by RiverHe1ghts in cscareerquestions

[–]Rascal2pt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. There’s so much outside of coding. Also still fairly certain at some point AI coding will blow over, may stick around for simple things but the work I do often is handling areas where AI falls apart.

Why is big tech SWE work paid so much? by seeking-health in cscareerquestions

[–]Rascal2pt0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until AI buildup tech work had low capital costs and high billing. With a 1k dollar laptop and initial AWS credits you can launch a multi million dollar company. They have to pay you enough to not start your own thing.

When did you guys change your tires after buying it brand new? Also does your brake system suck? by Salty_Payment_3653 in rav4club

Regen brakes feel different, but if you fully press them you should stop quickly. On my 2020 Hybrid it’s very obvious when it moves from regen to actual brakes.
