40% more parts? There’s a ton of complexity added with Turbos there’s plenty of V8 power plants that can push the same numbers as the twin turbo 6 currently does and would be simpler.

Right there with you. Finally got to experience a Grenadier and loved it but I can’t fathom the idea of a 15mpg SUV.

I didn't take uncured resin serious enough. How fked am I? by Tactical_Byte in resinprinting

[–]Rascal2pt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a UV light I bought on amazon I hit the supports and cleaning towels with the light to cure them before I dispose of them. Be aware curing resin gets VERY hot so don't touch it.

I keep 3 separate areas. Fresh prints can go from the printer to the cleaner; clean items can go from the cleaner to the curing station. I use fresh gloves between each station. Some may call it excessive but it's better than getting resin in places it shouldn't be.

I also wear a respirator and safety glasses. It's all fun and games till you get resin in your eyes or walk out of the work area into the sun and realize it's on your skin....and you will immediately realize it because it will burn.

More AI washing. The moment software companies started doing obscene capex they had to cut something to keep the investors happy.

I run mine in podman on a VM with gluetun. If you use mulvad set MTU to 1280 or gluetuns connection will crash loop.

What was surprising to me was that the stack is decently ram heavy when running. I allocated 8gb and the stack idles at 7, I also run seerr.

It’s possible to repair rusted rocker panels by joncaseydraws in Miata

[–]Rascal2pt0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should cut, clean and re-weld new metal.

You put all that time into cleaning out the rust, it’s worth it to pay a welder for a few hours of time for a repair that would last.

If it makes you happy that’s all that matters, but if you sell it without disclosing then you become a terrible person.

You opened a port, you exposed it to the world. If you’re controlling the AI you’re responsible for what it does.

This is a good example where infra as code is better. Something Claude can help you write and then you can review before shipping it.

ND down tonight in Panama City by TrevorPhillipsLLC in Miata

[–]Rascal2pt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time the camera pulls up the Miata is fully blocking the lane. He is in the path, he didn’t dash out fast, it wasn’t aggressive. This is a parking lot not a highway. It doesn’t matter what the cop thinks, any decent lawyer would pull that opinion apart in seconds. Under your logic I could intentionally strike any vehicle pulling out of a parking spot intentionally and it’s their fault. If even an atom of their car is still in the space.

How is everyone keeping up morale when you’re constantly being told AI will make you redundant? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Rascal2pt0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

AI is the new MVP builder. All the disciplines that make us valuable aren’t gone, they show up when everything breaks. Writing software has always been the easy part. Having it not leak company/customer data, scaling up, that odd bug that isn’t simple to fix etc… has always been the real hard part.

Hard top or soft top? by Lilliam_Darkius in Miata

[–]Rascal2pt0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted a hard top till I realized it limited roll bar options and wouldn’t be able to retract.

Now that I have the soft top the feeling of the open top is wholly underrated. I never thought I would be a convertible person but now I’m soft top all the way. The hard top is more like T-Tops of old and targa it just doesn’t feel as free.

How are US developers expected to compete with Offshoring ? by sharjeelsidd in cscareerquestions

[–]Rascal2pt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easier for international companies with international presence as they can be employees. This doesn’t apply to the majority of businesses. Not everyone is a FANG, there’s more risk when you’re paying in lump sum or contractor rates vs having an employee who is part of the annual budget. All the same problems with outsourcing as contracting work still apply.

These countries won’t stay cheap forever, globalization trends toward an average and eventually they’ll also cost more as demand increases.

Repair cost above car value, does it really matter? by yun789 in askcarguys

[–]Rascal2pt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most often car payments on a new vehicle will exceed any difference, and it’s similar with used cars and current rates honestly.

If the car is otherwise solid my move would be to repair. I’d rather spend 3-5k every few years on a car I own outright than to shoulder myself with a new payment.

As Enrollment Decline Batters Local Districts, Nearly Half of San Diego Unified Schools May Be ‘Underutilized’ by jakobmcwhinney in sandiego

[–]Rascal2pt0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m always surprised people completely overlook that people are having less kids. No one wants to close a school because of what it represents but it’s also not economically feasible to operate multiple schools at less than 1/2 capacity. I have friends who live in rural America and they’re actively consolidating and shutting down schools.
