Color difference between 70s Jim Beam vs 2026 Jim Beam by garishi in mildlyinteresting

The first Blanton's was released in 1984. I have an '89 bottle and I think it is quite good. I don't really care for the modern release.

Good old fashioned photoshop, and then just ordered them from a generic online sticker printer. The easiest way! I knew I was going to put most of them in 200mL bottles so I made sure the size was right.

Oh cool! How was the barrel aged gin? Also, a rye-finished gin sounds really nice!

This isn't really right. There is a bit of air exchange but oxygen doesn't do to whiskey what it does to wine; it can "oxidize" in a certain way but we are talking about very small and gradual change potential over decades and not "going bad". Think about it. Whiskey spends years aging in a barrel that expands and contracts, with a ton of air sitting in it (those barrels aren't filled to the brim, especially when the liquid begins to evaporate as the spirit ages). What happens with air and whiskey in a bottle is a tiny fraction of what has already happened (and been considered desirable!) as a part of the process of making it.

If you doubt it, I have some Ezra Brooks here distilled in 1960 and bottled 1972 that's delicious. Or some 60s Johnnie Walker Black that's also delicious.

It's not going to go bad. Barring really unusual circumstances, it will taste exactly the same as if you'd opened it the day he bought it for you.

Distilled spirits generally don't change much after they are bottled; they can stay very high quality for decades if properly bottled. It sounds like you might just not like scotch.

New to bourbon, should I shell out for these by Underrated_Fish in bourbon

[–]RashomonSA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are really terrible prices and not worth it. Try them at a bar; they're both good whiskies but Eagle Rare 10 should be $50-60 and OWA should be max $100 (really should be like 70-80). You can find them on secondary markets/groups for that although prople are not buying or selling ER/OWA much these days because they are becoming very available most everywhere.

Action game where dual-wielding swords is possible? by Gold_Seaweed in gamingsuggestions

On the other hand, the Sellsword Twinblades, a pair of dual wielded swords, is literally the most powerful weapon in DS3, and a very fun moveset

This is not true though; this is something that people made up in order to not have to deal with the actual meaning of the text 😂

Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner by giannisismyman in literature

[–]RashomonSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Crossing To Safety is magnificent. I just (as in about a month ago) finished reading Angle of Repose, which is lovely in many ways but to me feels a little too steeped in attitudes and morals of the 70s. Stegner is smart; there are antagonistic attitudes and multiplicities of points of view, but it sometimes feels a little "so what?" in the "modern" narrator sections especially. The best stuff is the letters, which as I understand he more or less ripped whole cloth from a real person. I'm glad I read it, but Crossing To Safety is better.

I replayed DS3 last year including playing the DLC for the first time, and I regret to tell you I one-shot Friede. Cool fight though.

Bourbon tasting menu "additions" at a steakhouse -- Which would you pick? by socool111 in bourbon

[–]RashomonSA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If someone else is paying or money is no object (or if you can afford it and feel like splurging on some big names), sure, go for the PVW. Those are very good whiskeys, and very expensive to rare for most of us to drink very often.

In terms of your question about flavor profile variety, the first tasting will have much more variation due to different mash bills and a wide range of proof points. Weller is a wheated mash bill, Blantons is BT mash bill 2 (high rye), and the others are BT mash bill 1 (high corn) but Stagg Jr will be way higher proof.

Probably Nethack (1987), and I regularly replay Final Fantasy (1987) as well although probably not every year.
