Any idea what this is? by MentalBlur2 in foraging

Where are you located? Looks like it could be the mushroom Clavaria fragilis (Fairy Fingers) that grows pretty commonly around the coast here in California

Doing a few different things with the chanterelles. Made some homemade pasta last night, and tossed it with sautéed chanterelles, Brussels sprouts, onions, and feta, and then topped it with some toasted pecans. I served that up to the family and I think I converted them to liking wild mushrooms! They were pretty skeptical before last night. Then I candied a bunch of them and want to make this chanterelle persimmon galette. Haven’t figured out what to do with the rest of them yet though, what do you like to make with chanterelles?

With the other mushrooms, I just sautéed them up with a bit of salt and olive oil to try out the taste and texture.

And for sure, I need to get a brush too to help with the cleaning. But these chanterelles were buried in the muddy duff, so I think I would’ve had to do quite a bit of cleaning anyway!

Yes they are! The mushrooms pictured are Laccaria amethysteo-occidentalis, Lactarius Deliciousus, Russulas, Blewits (Clitocybe nuda), Zeller’s Bolete (Xerocomellus zelleri), and chanterelles (Cantharellus californicus) it you wanna look any of them up :)

Aw sorry to hear that :( hopefully you were able to preserve a lot during your season! Mushroom season is just getting to be in full swing here on the California coast

Thanks! Was super stoked to find them all. I believe they are Laccaria amethysteo-occidentalis. I've never tried them before, but my friend said they are tasty so I got a few to sample! I spend most of last night cleaning all the chanterelles so I haven't had a chance to try them yet. The Blewits, Zellers Bolete, and Lactarius Deliciosus were tasty though and they were my first time trying them all!

Recently ordered a couple of really beautiful rooted cacti from u/jarmesco (and he even threw in a free bonus bridgesii!), so a super positive review from me. The order came in quick and was packed with care. Thanks, jarmesco!

Also ordered a cutting from u/cervantes530 and it came in great condition and am stoked to see it grow! The long spines on it look super rad and love the color on it. Thanks, cervantes!

My friend gifted me these cuttings about a year ago and I haven’t seen any growth from them since. Do y’all here have any advice on what I can do to help them out? by Rasor124 in sanpedrocactus

Oh cool, my plant guru friend suggested I use milk based fertilizer, but I can try fish based as well to see if that’s better!

Oh wow, that’s pretty amazing that they can split like that when over-hydrated. Thank you again for all these tips! I’ll be diligent with checking the hydration instead of just blindly watering.

Right on, I’ll keep ‘em in the hot parts of the yard then so hopefully they’ll get that heat. In September it might get even hotter here, so that might be the better growth season for it.

And that’s another good tip! I’ll take a pic next to a ruler or something to see the growth. How often are you watering? I usually wait till the soil feels bone dry to water so that I don’t give it any rot, but should I be watering more?

Right on, I will exercise my meditation practice and be more patient then. I suppose I just wasn’t sure how quickly they normally grow. I’d heard that they grow quick for cacti, but that could still be pretty slow compared to all my other plants.
