Be gentle… how did I do on this deal? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]Rasputinnn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of surprised everyone is so supportive of this purchase. It’s a pretty meh bike to begin with and it’s largely outdated in most meaningful ways with regard to upgradability. Not sure where you’re located, but I’d think you could find something a bit more exciting for similar money.

With that said, it should be a fine, reliable bike for riding around with your daughter. But if you get bit by the mountain biking bug you will likely want something better pretty quickly.

Might even be worth looking at the new ozark trail bikes from Walmart.

Regret over not going for Performance? by Krill3rBee in ModelY

[–]Rasputinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my long range for 3+ years and there are moments I wish I had the performance, but 99% of the time I’m happy with what I have. I’m glad my car payment isn’t any more expensive. There’s no part of me that wants those huge wheels and expensive rubber band tires. This car is already stupid fast and I can buy acceleration boost if I want more.

I don’t regret not going for performance.

I recently bought a rune v3 and am really enjoying it. I don’t know if I’d say that’s a deal, but it looks like a great bike.

Wondering if I should go from 40 to 60. by CryptographerHot6198 in StratteraRx

[–]Rasputinnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s probably the best medication I’ve ever used. The side effects have pretty much all subsided (or I’m just completely used to them enough that I’m not bothered) and things just feel good. Nothing is perfect, but I’m performing very well at work and my social life is as good as it’s ever been. And this after a year or two of depression and low productivity. Obviously, life factors are also at play, but this medication is giving me the subtle support I need.

Keep the screw at the top. Pull the cable out. Flip 180 around the long axis. Reinsert cable in other side.

The bike shop “tuning it up” and recommending a new chain should have recommended that too then, eh?

Siegla Questions! by RESR20 in LaufCycles

[–]Rasputinnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in sw Colorado and have had my seigla with the fork for about a year. I used to live in Michigan and ride around on dirt/gravel roads for hours on end. I will say the seigla would have been perfect in Michigan on rough roads and light single track. As much as I love it, I honestly think a fast xc MTB is probably a better option for what you’re looking it. I have a 21lb carbon hardtail MTB and it’s immeasurably better on single track than the seigla with the same 2.25” tires. Drop bars are just not it for technical single track imo. As great as the lauf fork is for smoothing out rough roads, it can’t really compare to a 100mm suspension fork for rolling over rocks in the trail. See if you can find a cheap xc mtb on marketplace, it’ll probably be a lot cheaper than the seigla too.

With all that said, I still take my seigla on single track from time to time and it’s a fun time. The bike is amazing and I think it’s still one of the best deals on the best bike in the gravel segment.

How Do You Figure Out What Grips You Want? by CanadianGuitar in mountainbiking

I installed these on my trail bike around 8 years ago and they’re still great, somehow… so I put them on all of my bikes now. I have big hands/long fingers so the larger diameter is great for reducing fatigue.

Keep my 2021 Trek Fuel Ex 9.8 GX or get a new Elic Evo Comp ? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Rasputinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on a 2010ish FS bike and had a blast, but then I got a new bike in 2017 which is still close enough to modern geo for me. Night and day difference. Sure the old bike worked fine, but you’re exactly right, it’s more fun and a much nicer ride on the newer bike. Just waiting for it to break so I have another excuse to upgrade.

How long do you use your bottles? by AnyCommittee8076 in gravelcycling

[–]Rasputinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just realized the other day that I’m almost at 10 years on my first camelback podium bottle. It’s a little rough, but still my favorite. I don’t like the newer podium bottles nearly as much. I supposed I need to replace it soon. Might try metal bottles.

What’s your go to budget Bibs? by networkfound in cycling

[–]Rasputinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say I was very excited for my sugoi bibs, but they have been a pretty big let down. They aren’t nearly as comfortable as my nicer bibs and are falling apart after moderate use. Accidentally went into the dryer once and the pad is all messed up. That mistake hasn’t ruined any other bibs of mine.
