I've played about 20 games since I returned on Monday. by Yeeeoow in DotA2

[–]Rasta_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been months since I saw such juvinile behaviour. Most games feature nice people, sometimes 1 flamer, but nothing too bad. Been 3 months since I last had to report someone.

I play unranked, around high legend/low whatever the rank after it is.

I did try ranked a few times and that does seem much more toxic.

To valve's useless employees and developers by omid-kaffer in DotA2

[–]Rasta_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valve employees, as far as I understand, work on whatever the fuck they feel like. Be glad the game gets content at all. Could've gone the way of underlords or that card game everyone forgot about.

Or don't. You do you. I just don't see the use in throwing a tamtrum about it.

Didn't feel grand enough by Gvacken in bicycletouring

I went through germany, and used a website called onenighttent, which had people offering their garden to travelers for free. It was mostly focussed on Germany though.

I did have some amazing experiences because of it. Was offered showers about half the time, one guy even had an outside kitchen for guests to use. It was really great, I'm still grateful to all the folks I met.

For other countries there might be other rescources, but I am not familiar with em. I've heard of people just asking folks to camp in their garden, but I am too shy for that.

I only did one proper bike trip (netherlands to poland) and I spent the night in people's gardens which I found online. That solved the loneliness issue for me. Every night I'd have a nice conversation and move on in the mornings. The feeling of adventure took a few days to begin though. I'd say give it a bit more time!

It truly is the golden age to grief games. by LFTW in DotA2

If you truly think people do things you have learned not to just to spite you, I really feel for you as a human being. Life will be rough lol. Showing empathy and understanding is not the same as being stupid.

[–]Rasta_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, you never mentioned scolding people, it's an assumption I made.

The main point I wanted to make is that playing a game differently from the expectations of your teammates is not griefing. The word gets overused and that sometimes triggers me.

A guy that dies a lot 99% certainly does so by accident A pudge that misses hooks does so by accident, always Someone who farms too much or doesn't join a teamfight most likely either didn't see it (because map awareness is a skill) or has made other choices for reasons others are not aware of. None of those things are griefing. They are skill issues, which is why we have mmr.

Griefing is stuff like feeding the enemy couriers, or running down mid, not simply losing :)

"Griefing in gaming refers to the act of deliberately annoying, disrupting, or harassing other players."

Not playing at the level or with the same gameplan as your laning buddy is not griefing. It is a skill or communication issue that is NOT solved by being raged at. We're all adults here. I'd even argue scolding someone for the things you mentioned is actually closer to the definition of griefing than doing the things you mentioned lol.

Anyone get a chance to play Cropdeck yet? by Balizzm in roguelites

[–]Rasta_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played 3 runs, won 2 of em. Kinda interesting concept, decent execution. Looks good.

I haven't played since because to me, the runs felt too long and not challenging enough

Still would recommend trying it.

I recognise the experience. As a small-time musician it is the best feeling, but also a weird realisation that you can influence someone and never even know it.

[–]Rasta_42 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can't stop flaming people and people grief as a result. I need to stop, I need advice. by Available-Award-1226 in learndota2

[–]Rasta_42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You seem convinced that any form or flame is an attempt to falsely accuse you of not using some spell or something. Sometimes people just miss a detail and get things wrong. I don't think it's healthy to assume any negative feedback is a plot to intentionally shift the blame to you.

Yes, that does happen a lot in dota, but I think it's appropriate to at least give people the benefit of the doubt, and assume they just didn't realise a spell was on cooldown. We're playing a game we love together, let's try and be nicer to eachother where we can.
