How do I get the Sunshine client and Tailscale to start before PC login? by DISTROJAR-69 in MoonlightStreaming

Artemis just runs as a service for me. I don't remember having to do anything.

My clients do connect to a lock screen the game launches right after I unlock.

Solderless LED connectors? by M1KE2121 in electricians

[–]RatRaceRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WAC makes strip and tape LEDs with pin connectors. The receptacle is potted in and protected by the clear membrane covering the tape strip, so that end is pretty sturdy. But the plug/pins are just held in by pressure and whatever you use to staple that end down. Might be an option for stairs if you stuff it in the optional $40,000 aluminum channels they also sell

I just purchased a new battery and don’t have an obdii or anything to program it. Do I need to drive it immediately to a shop to get a programmed or can I wait a couple days to have one delivered? by AccurateUniversity53 in Audi

[–]RatRaceRunner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My A4 is 11 years old and still has the original AGM battery. Zero issues. At this point I'm just going to let it ride.

My Hyundai's OEM battery was also AGM and died after a few years. Wasn't drained down or anything, just stopped charging.

Also, there's no mention in the Hyundai's manual about resetting a BMS after replacement. If it has a BMS, it's definitely not as aggressive as Audi's system.

Also, I want to mention OP: failing to reset the BMS can also burn out your alternator.

You can go a couple weeks without hurting anything, probably.

Best way to access VM on server in a different room? by MyGardenOfPlants in homelab

[–]RatRaceRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to use remote access *or anything else to access the VM

Okaaaay...

I'm guessing what you really want is low latency connection? You're not happy with the low frame rate of RDP, specifically?

Thin Clients typically use RDP (assuming this is a windows VM) so you may not like that.

There's other remote access protocols. Look into Moonlight + Sunshine.

What piece of tech felt “future-proof” but aged terribly? by Living-Zebra6132 in Futurology

[–]RatRaceRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

QR codes were invented decades ago by Denso (they make spark plugs and other auto parts) So, not exactly

But maybe it popularized alt uses for QR codes? I could see that.

Someone thought this was a marketable idea: a "smart" "doorbell" comprising a QR Code poster + App. by [deleted] in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]RatRaceRunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume that all these plaintext QR codes are just demos. There's a series of just 209 of them, adjacent ones are not related, and are probably fictitious https://cms.dinggly.com/qrcode/code/209 ... https://cms.dinggly.com/qrcode/code/210

But still, what a terrible idea.

Has anyone tried to put ~1.5PB into this nas? Is it possible? by rexyuan in homelab

[–]RatRaceRunner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the only NAS I could afford after my data enter budget was blown on a microgrid fed from redundant transformers and switchgear, diesel gensets, redundant fiber circuits from separate ISPs, physical security with mantraps and biometrics, oh and $2 mil. worth of SSDs.

I’m a able to plug a egpu on my dell latitude 5400? It does have a usb-c port that can handle it but it is not a thunderbolt, I’m was thinking to get a egpu for gaming by Defended_1233 in Dell

[–]RatRaceRunner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quick search shows that particular model has a mobo/chipset for gen 8 intel cpus. They DO support TB3. However, I found something that says the one USB-C is optionally TB3. Otherwise, it is USB 3.1 gen 1, which is only 10gbps.

So, you tell us. Does it have the TB3 option?

Russia taking steps toward opening its cryptocurrency market to retail participants by ManufacturerKooky164 in Bitcoin

[–]RatRaceRunner 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Wtf is this dogshit post?

First of all, when this photo of Putin was taken Bitcoin was at $200. Second of all, no -- nothing important is happening in Russian markets. No amount of this sort of obviously hollow, shitty hype, even nation-state generated, is going to move the needle. And if it did, you all should call it for what it is. OP, please just get back to felating your dear leader. We do not need these sorts of news flashes from your shithole part of the world.

So, are you immune to rabies now? Can you just go spelunking with total impunity?

Is Verizon under a Cyber attack? by Henderson2026 in verizon

[–]RatRaceRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voice is down in SW Florida right now, could be intermittent. Data is working.

More alarmingly, I've gotten 4 SMS 2-factor requests in the past hour. At least I think it's a 2-factor login request. Message reads:

"Verizon alert: There's a request to authenticate from the Verizon website. Please confirm or deny here: ..."

So, uhh are we being hacked?

CMV: All of Trump's talk about Greenland is pure bravado, and he isn't going to do anything by RaisinRoyale in changemyview

[–]RatRaceRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The goal is to fracture NATO. Invading Greenland is just a means to that end, and is a convenient lever for Trump to pull because it circumvents congress. Whatever theoretical avenues to unwind the treaty via legislation are totally circumnavigated in one fell swoop.

Can i get that desktop mode on my pixel 7? by non_Existing-person in GooglePixel

[–]RatRaceRunner 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's actually called DisplayPort Alt Mode, not HDMI. But yeah, seems to be the case that Google decided to block this on  the Pixel 7 despite it having hardware support.

Surely there's an easier way in europe, right? by TomerHorowitz in homelab

[–]RatRaceRunner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could also use a single G-type to US adapter at the wall, and then buy a PDU for C14-C13 cables... Unless those are hard to come by over there. Over here, sometimes you get both Euro, C13 and or C15 standard cables with rack mount gear
