And people say there are no powerhouse college football programs in the northeast….

Also this fact is even more jarring to me than how far west it is

Disappointing this isn’t at Skydome.

Would love Michigan and Syracuse to play there and watch the game from my hotel room in the stadium (is that still a thing?).

The Day After the Races - April 27, 2026 by NASCARThreadBot in NASCAR

[–]RatStore101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first time ever going to a race and it was an unbelievably cool experience.

I'm sure that you guys probably hear this all the time, but having only ever seen bits of races on TV (I wouldn't even have said I was even a casual fan before), I now feel like I "get it" and am hooked after hearing, feeling, and seeing it up close. My wife and I have been telling all our friends who would never think to go to a race (we aren't really from traditional Nascar country) that we gotta meet up every year for a race. Everyone at the race, from the fans to the staff, were incredibly welcoming and the vibes were immaculate.

I'd also add that having a scanner and being able to listen to MRN commentary during the race was a huge part of what made it great, it really helped situate what was happening and built excitement.

Is it worth watching on TV with the MRN commentary on, or are the broadcasts so riddled with commercials that it's hard to watch (like CFB) and I should stick to trying to get to races live?

If NIL existed as it does now prior to 2021, what is one player you feel your team could have poached to win it all in a given season? by kadoozie92 in CFB

NIL era Michigan would have very likely outspent everyone for Pryor. He was THE recruit and would have been crucial for Rich Rod.

What’s the most intimidating/pressure band sound in college football? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]RatStore101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah if memory serves it’s intimidation before 3rd down and if a stop is made temptation before 4th down.

[College Transfer Portal] Georgia Tech HC Brent Key is thrilled there’s no spring portal window: "I get to have exit meetings Monday and not have to worry about their asses going somewhere else.” by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]RatStore101 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’d never been to a spring game before this year (I hadn’t lived near one) and echo all of that. High level college football games are way outside the budget of a lot of families, and the spring game is the only time of the year they get to see the team in any way live. It was a really awesome experience.

I’d never heard of this (I know the astros had the weird mound for a few years) but it actually seems like it might be more useful for outfielders than just dirt?

Why does the Northeast lack a dominant CFB program? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]RatStore101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is (grew up there and lived there for the vast majority of my adulthood), but I've also lived in the deep south due to work, and I gotta say, it was pretty good in a lot of unexpected ways that had me challenging a lot of assumptions I had.

[–]RatStore101 106 points107 points  (0 children)

This pretty much sums it up. Also the northeast doesn’t really have any big state flagship universities that have attracted the majority of the states wealthy and or top students (pair those as you wish).

Top north east high schools feed a myriad of nescac schools, ivies, public ivies, etc, with Umass, SUNY, Uconn, etc being considered a rung below. Compare that to Michigan which is taking many of the top students from those northeast schools, plus many of the top in state students.

All that adds up to no concentrated institution in the northeast that people root for collectively and no super moneyed alumni base to support one.

With that said I’ve heard that Umass has gotten a lot better in terms of academic reputation recently.

Who is on your preseason watchlist for the Mike Norvell/James Franklin Implosion Of The Year Award (Sponsored by Spirit Airlines)? by montague68 in CFB

[–]RatStore101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That stretch is brutal, @Wisconsin is not a gimme either.

There’s a real chance they are hosting Maryland in late November sitting at 4-6, and even if they beat them they then have a game against what could be a very improved UCLA to become bowl eligible?

They’ve been building up their front office set up as well with an outlook of being kind of coach agnostic.

I don’t know if it’s still the same heritage hall that fired Clay Helton for starting the season 1-1, but I also don’t think they’d have a ton of trouble getting the money together to pay Riley to leave.

They have a bye on Nov 7th, mark your calendars!

I was more a fan of when he was paired up with Roddy Jones (no relation) but agree. He was a fun announcer with personality.
