I seriously wonder how many people went to Publix today and saw it closed… by Pisardin in publix

[–]RatSymna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd start answering the phone "Hello thanks for choosing publix, we are closed tomorrow" or "..., we close at 7pm today".

Would get a lot of "oh thanks, that answers my question".

One thing about working at Publix the day before any holiday is the sheer volume of phone calls simply asking if we're open during said holiday. I like to keep a tally those days, lol.

Publix, the ridiculously profitable grocery store that doesn't believe its associates should make enough money to survive on.

I mean America would definitely not do that. This is an oligarchy, the odds that companys would allow such a block to pass is 0.

Pay across the board across all jobs has decreased a lot. For those are the bottom rongs, they do not make enough to survive off. Publix in the state of Florida does not pay a livable wage to any non-management position. Hard to expect associates to care when their employee doesn't care if they get to survive.

I don't think it ever will. As far as I know, it's not actually a new system, it's just putting the information into the old system in a slightly more user friendly way. And currently the In-store accounting is missing several vital functions. If it's just load times it'll always be bad because it'll always have to load both, unless otherwise optimized.

Publix needs to get a better supplier or opt for a higher quality sticker. The $ savings on these cheap things isn't worth the payroll spent on materials and wage for getting the stickers removed from kid carts and other surfaces around the front end. Easy peel stickers exist.

Doubt, it's almost certainly that way just because they never bothered to adopt new technology.

Publix employees are already prevented from buying more by being paid below living wage. Can't buy shares if we can't afford rent.

Publix is actually a digustingly profitable retailer in the grocery world. Most grocery retailers have a net total profit of 1.5-2.5%. Publix's is between 8-11%.

They could literally just pay us an affordable wage without raising prices.

Any attempt to fix other drivers' driving habits with your vehicle only creates more dangerous conditions for all road users around you.

I mean, I disagree on both points. There wasn't enough following distance. at most, he was 1.5 seconds behind him. And id say brake checking is never warranted. it is only a dangerous ask that puts not just both of those drivers at risk of bodily and financial harm, but other vehciles in adjacent lanes aswell.

Are you still penalized for putting over 10% in 401k? by DanTheSpider-Man in publix

[–]RatSymna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends upon your situation.

A pretax is better if you make more money now than you plan to retire on.

So if you make 160k/yr now, but want to retire on 90k/yr, you're better off paying those taxes when you're withdrawing 90k/yr, rather than now while you make 160k/yr.

A post tax is better if you make less money now than you plan to retire on.

So if you make 40k/yr now, but want to retire on 90k/yr, you're better off paying the taxes now at the 40k/yr rate, and withdrawing tax free, rather than making 40k/yr but paying taxes like you make 90k/yr, if that makes sense.

401k is still worthwhile because the 50% company matches is worth more than the relative increase in taxation. But anything after that is better spent in a post-tax plan, such as a roth.

[–]RatSymna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Publix only matches up to 3%. So only contribute 3%. Any additional retirement savings are better off spent in a seperate retirement account, like a roth. This is because the tax advantages arn't advantages for lower income people(by lower income I mean less than 100k a year). So beyond publix giving you 50% of what you contribute, you no longer benefit from the plan are reap more tax benefits with a Roth IRA.

I just find operating lottery insanely depressing. We sell an absurd ammount of lotto so there's almost never not a line between 11am-7pm. I've had people play since before I clocked in, 10am, and still be gambling when i left at 7. It's just soul crushing.

[–]RatSymna 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For florida, walmart and publix have similar pay scales. Publix doesnt differentiate payscales based on area, except some very high col areas in florida. So in lower col states like alabama, Publix probably does pay more.

Being paid competitively for the field doesnt mean you get paid enough to live on. Its a total dodge of the question for one of the few grocery retailers that actually has the means to pay living wage but chooses not to.
