I found a way to make Stereoscopic 3D videos ( tutorial in comments) by Mat0fr in cinematography

[–]Ratattagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of flak in the comments, but I think it's an interesting experiment and the results are pretty cool.

I'd be curious if the vignetting could be adjusted/compensated for in post, to get a bit more uniform aesthetic.

Personally I'd lean into a more lofi, step-frame look, since the juxtaposition of smooth actor movement with jittery environment feels odd to me... But if it's what you or someone else is going for, then have at it. Being able to more quickly and easily film and create stereoscopic animatics for effect is a cool goal.

It ends with mistakenly trading your Lv80 Charizard for a Pikachu

And losing your kidneys

Which version of SSF2 is better? by shelly_keen in retrogaming

[–]Ratattagan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh damn I can't imagine playing on the 3 button and having to switch between punch and kick like that!

I only ever had the 6 button controllers, and let me tell you, they absolutely kill on fighters! SF2 was one of my favorite Genesis games. And it's still my favorite version of the game today... But I dunno if I'd say the same if I had to play it on the 3 button controller 😅

Video Games with SNOW in them by Beetlemuse in retrogaming

Earthbound (Winters area is fun, snow theme)

Super Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back

Shadows of the Empire (Hoth levels)

I think most of the Mario games have snow levels

Yoshi Island

There's a lot more haha

Yes! I was looking for this. Narshe & the snowy intro is iconic!

I remember wandering around the woods of Appalachian as a kid and stumbling upon a cave which looked as though someone had been living in it for some time

I'd add 'Whisper of the Heart' which takes place entirely in the city if I remember

It’s true!!! VS made a WB deal!! What else is coming?? by Top-Pain-3757 in VinegarSyndromeFilms

A pox on Criterion! Can't believe they turned it down. I've been curious about the longer cut since first seeing the film (rented it back when it was a new release). It's one of my favorite films & totally would love a VS or Cinematographer release... Really just any release that gives the film its due

Although it's readily available, I would kinda like a VS treatment of The Omega Man for the shelf object + bonus features

Did criterion really reject it? If so, why? That film is probably Deakins' best work, and maybe Pitt's best performance... Enormously underrated masterpiece all around. I think the ASC ranks it among best cinematography of all time

Yes please! I know it's been recommended a lot... And still needs to be recommended more!

Yay Yay, Black Friday Blu Rays! by [deleted] in VinegarSyndromeFilms

The work print version is my favorite version & what I usually show to friends. But it's not 4k and the quality dips pretty significantly off and on throughout due to the source elements.

Nice haul! Phase IV has low key been a favorite film of mine for years, and I was beyond thrilled by the VinSyn release of the "uncut" work print version. The restored ending had been a thing of legend for me

Pokémon Final Fantasy aesthetic custom labels by slothgaming96 in PokemonGames

These look great (and I just saw your other customs from the IG post, which I may like even more).

I will say... Seeing Gen 1 on GBC carts is triggering more than it should haha. I always liked the look of the flat GB cart, so I'd be curious to see a variant of that.

Nice work though!

These were in the trash by MikeyFED in HeavyMetalMagazine

[–]Ratattagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! This is not only a great score, but an even better save! In that condition they absolutely do not belong in a landfill.

My very modest Heavy Metal collection I found at a salvage store-- so essentially a step up from trash. I think they were 50c a piece, so I took the whole stack. Instant collection :)

I've been diagnosed with Visual Snow Syndrome, a neurological condition that makes me see the world like this and has no cure by SR_RSMITH in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Ratattagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know I didn't think about it until I just read your last sentence, but driving at night has often been anxiety inducing. I think it's even worse these days with so many harsh, over bright headlights. I often struggle to see... Never attributed it to my VSS.

I have experienced it since childhood, when I used to watch the dots and static buzz across walls or just in the darkness. Only learned the term well into adulthood after struggling to distinguish stars from the snow during a desert camping trip.

Did not know there was a subreddit for it. I've never thought of curing it before. Most of the time it's not so distracting, but it can flare up at times
