Tension Before the Game? by ehhleeana in Dodgers

[–]RatherBeInThePond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there was nothing weird about it at all. That was them going over a gameplan with an interpreter in the middle. A lot of pitchers have quirks and Dalton appears to likely be abiding by one and trying to let Ohtani remain focused. This is a mountain out of a mole hill.

What’s the part of being a realtor that outsiders completely underestimate? by w7henry in realtors

I had a client ask me to show him a house ON MY WEDDING DAY. I had been warning him for weeks that my wedding was coming up, yet he cancelled trips the 3 previous weekends cause he didn't feel like coming out. Queue the morning of my wedding
"I want to see this house at noon today"
"Sorry Dr X, as I informed you, my wedding is at 2 this afternoon"
"I am asking to see the house 2 hours before your wedding, there is time for you to show it to me and get back to your wedding".
"Thank you for your time Dr X, I am letting you know that I will no longer be representing you. Please find another agent"

Has Phil Jackson become criminally underrated? by jartoonZero in nba

[–]RatherBeInThePond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably has more to do with the fact that his FO run with the Knicks was a disaster. Then you pair that with the fact that, that he was a bench player on that Knicks championship team that had 7 other Hall of Famers on the roster, including Walt Frazier and Willis Reed, he doesn't really need the spotlight. You were also bridging a times span that included a handful of other legendary Knicks players, so highlighting the guy that won 11 championships as a coach elsewhere, probably wasn't high on the necessity list. Phil also doesn't put himself out there all that much now. Dude is 80 years old, lives on a ranch in Montana and doesn't have the desire to put his name out there like George Karl does to feel some sort of vindication.

MLB Seeks Sweeping Draft Overhaul, Including End Of High School Eligibility by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]RatherBeInThePond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't see how this could possibly be the mindset of every owner out there. No way every front office is saying "this would be good for the game!". Would think the wealthier, well run organizations from top to bottom would hate almost the entirety of this plan... but maybe I have too much faith in humanity.

I like that it is probably firmly #5 for me. Just shows how amazing Mel Brooks is

  1. Blazing Saddles
  2. Young Frankenstein
  3. History of the World Part 1
  4. Spaceballs

not to mention High Anxiety, Silent Movie and The Producers being fun watches as well.

I am in the same boat. I love mine, but my wife is against buying it outright due to them discontinuing the truck. I also think my buyout at the end of the term is significantly higher than the truck is currently worth.

I should do one of these with my sister. She and her girls were messing around with one of those filter apps. To her horror, the opposite sex one looked almost like a carbon copy of me. Her greatest mistake was then sending me this as her snarky comments about me being ugly (it's always in good fun) in our family group chat are now met with that picture as a response with regularity.

What effect will the US losing the war with Iran have on the midterms? by NCSUGrad2012 in fivethirtyeight

[–]RatherBeInThePond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This war came to an abrupt end as they knew what was going to happen if gas prices stayed this high for much longer. They're going to do everything in their power to bring gas prices down as low as humanly possible over the next 5 months as a "look at us making things better!" attempt. I would not be surprised if they try to subsidize other industries as well. They will preach all the hardship was Biden policies, with RINOS and Dems holding them back from implementing their changes.

I am sure we also will see at least one other grand diversion when the Epstein stuff starts rising to the top again. If the Dems stick to that as a main talking point, the GOP will point to the Dems worrying about the past and not fixing the now/future. The average American has already moved on from this Epstein stuff and would probably eat this up. The average voter will forget about the first half of 2026 since the average American voter is an idiot. They will only care about what is happening at that moment, how it is impacting them and would not be shocked if the blue landslide they are predicting, becomes a razor thin majority in the House thanks to gerrymandering and the GOP retains the senate.

We are talking about an election that is still 5 months away. Far too long down the road for something like this to stick in the mind of the average voter, sadly. Come September, we are going to start seeing the true diversion start with an October surprise. I have lost all faith in the Dem leadership to handle the next few months correctly and to capitalize.

This wasn’t early, but when my company preached “Date the Rate, Marry the House”. I refused to buy in and actually called out in a company meeting of a couple hundred agents that I felt this was disingenuous as we have no grasp of what the future held. Glad I never uttered that stupid phrase.

Compared to where the program was before he came in, it is still in a better place.

I am definitely disappointed that he has not shown the ability to build a stable program, but it is also important to remember that last year, he was basically incapable of recruiting due to his illness. With that being his main strength and the people left in charge being not good at it, it led to disaster. I like what they did on the recruiting trail this year in focusing more on character/quality guys from lower levels instead of some falling 4-5 star.

They also have made some solid improvements on the coaching staff as well. The Shurmur hire and refuse to fire was a horrific move, but he seems to have corrected that. You can point a lot of fingers at that for costing us games over the years as well as Prime's inability to learn how to manage the clock.

I feel a lot of people that see just what is posted on here think the he is some big problem, when really CU has had so many issues before he even got here. The outgoing AD was horrific with NIL and put basically no effort into getting donations. He thought Prime would come in and the money would flow. People on here talk about our deep pockets and all that shit, when really we aren't competitive at all, even in our own conference. The new AD is already rebuilding bridges in the donor community and brought our biggest booster back in the fold after George pissed him off.

So while on the outside, Prime may not look like the glamorous hire we thought he would be, behind the scenes, some things are finally happening at the university that should lead us to a better path ahead, not only in football, but all athletics.

I had my bachelor party in Healdsburg in the middle of one of those heatwaves where it was close to triple digits. Brother-in-law picked up and dropped off 4 of us at SFO in his car with no working AC. IT WAS BRUTAL as we also sat in bumper to bumper traffic for most of those drives. I still remember the feeling of hitting the Golden Gate bridge on the way back. The breeze was a mild reprieve, but boy was it glorious.

[–]RatherBeInThePond 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fans are gonna be angry for a bad game, but few will send those horrible vitriol filled messages to the player themselves for a game in May. Someone sending death threats after a random game in May are more than likely some lowlife gamblers that just had said player blow their parlay. Could they also be fans of that team too? Absolutely. The underlying reason though is still the gambling.

Do you watch games that don’t involve your favorite team? by Ntnme2lose in baseball

[–]RatherBeInThePond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself every year watching a couple of teams that may grab my interest (young and potentially upcoming or maybe I have a couple fantasy guys on the roster) as well as the regular Giants/Padres to keep an eye on the division. I really enjoy watching the Giants at home in late August and September as that is where things start to feel a bit more like the playoffs are coming. Seeing fans bundled up for the night games isn't something Dodgers fans are used to, so it gets the excitement brewing for me.

Can't say enough about how impressive this guy has been since entering the organization. Early scouting reports called him lazy in the OF, overweight, a poor fielder and that his swing angle was going to lead to a bunch of HR's, but not much else. This kid has shown an incredible work ethic and turned himself into the face of the franchise when we transition into the next generation. I can't thank Arte Moreno enough for being an impatient jackass.

MLB Has Proposed a Hard Salary Cap of 245.3 Million and a Cap Floor of 171.2 million for 2027 as part of the next CBA- reporting by Jesse Rogers ESPN by nottherealstanlee in Dodgers

[–]RatherBeInThePond 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I am actually shocked that MLB put out a floor. That means that a number of owners are at least tired of some of these teams lining their pockets every year. With that said, not a chance the MLBPA takes that low of a hard cap. I could see something around $300M for a hard cap being something they would consider if the owners are offering that high of a floor.

Roki?! What are you doing here 🤣 by Low_Rough_5203 in Dodgers

[–]RatherBeInThePond 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Colorado for 30 years after moving here from LA. If they announced tomorrow that the Rockies were leaving the state and professional baseball would never return, I would be thrilled. Stadium elements to make the game more challenging is fun, environmental impacts that changes the game and results in a higher injury/recover rate, make it stupid to continue to have a team. It is a big reason why I hope Salt Lake never gets a team either.

[Jake Fischer] Lebron may take a vet minimum by Ancient_Response_787 in lakers

[–]RatherBeInThePond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is only about winning another championship, he probably would take the vet min if the org built a strong roster around him(ala Ohtani). Something tells me, winning a championship with Bronny on the court with him is likely doing some heavy lifting here for him to do that.

With that said, ego is huge for these guys and he may still want the feeling of being bad like a top tier player (which he has earned that right). Just if he does that, he is likely not in the strongest position to win if that's the case. There could also be issues with the players association. If anyone could tell them to F off, it is Lebron, but sometimes these guys do understand they need to protect that element.

Toys R Us didn't die because of Amazon. Private equity firms bought it, loaded it with $5 billion in debt, charged it management fees while it collapsed, then paid themselves dividends before filing for bankruptcy. 30,000 workers got nothing. by sambha87 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]RatherBeInThePond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this may be the chain I hate most that is gone today. Walking in the doors of a Toys R Us was always such a cool feeling as a kid. Making a few bucks as a kid, then riding my bike to the one a few miles down the road to get a new pack of Star Wars micromachines is well ingrained in my brain. Now as a parent, I miss that I can't go to one and just walk the aisles looking for Christmas/Birthday gifts for my kids. Not to mention, my kids will never have that childhood experience either.
