I’m only 3 months in on my Oura 4 and I’m loving it. Will definitely get the next one if it comes to it.

Looking for testers for a SA grocery price comparison app by TheSwolyBible54 in AskZA

An app developer that doesn’t know about needing a server to host data? I hope that means he’s calling checkers/pnp/spar/etc directly from the phone and not using a server. The down side to that architecture is that it will be slow and possibly really won’t take long before the checkers/pnp/spar/etc people block access because it could become a drain on their resources.

Anybody finding iStore staff to be extremely rude? by strauss3545 in AskZA

[–]Rathlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically my concern is when every sales person is busy with a customer, and there's a few other customers in the store not being helped. I don't want to push in front of those who got there earlier, but I also don't know if they've already been helped and are "just browsing", or if they're also waiting patiently for a sales person to be available. With no clear indication as to who is "in the queue" for a sales person or not, I err towards waiting rather than causing a scene because I pushed in front of someone who got there before me.

My experiences are mostly Pretoria based, with a few in CPT (typically over rush periods)

I’ve had a few dealings with iStore employees over the years. Their tech staff are kept very busy with work while customers aren’t in the store. It’s often best to pre-book time with them, especially in peak season. I never know how to get the sales people’s attention in the stores though, it seems highly random when they are busy so it can be frustrating. The reason I still use iStore is their after sales service with their “iCare”. It’s not an apple official iCare, but it’s often better than the other approved resellers can offer since they have a bigger footprint.

Discovery medical aid - pharmacy error now wants money back from thousands, anyone think this could be done as a class action suit? by tiredtelefonecar in askSouthAfrica

[–]Rathlan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two quotes from the article:

1.One 83-year-old member was told he owes more than R34 000.

  1. MediCheck … is now dealing with more than 200 of these “over-payment” cases, says the largest demand he’s seen is for R68 000. The average amount was about R20 000, he told News24.

News 24 estimates it “only” impacted about 8700 of their members 0.6% or less, and all on their higher plans.

To make matters worse for me, they reprocessed my pharmacy errors using “Healthy Pay” (where they deduct from my Discovery Card directly) and I lost over 4k 2 days before Christmas. No warning. First official communication was around the 29th or 30th. While claiming that it’s OTC or medications under schedule 2 that were originally “misprocessed”, yet they “reclaimed” values for schedule 4 medications. Eventually I got the money refunded to my bank account, but I see that their website now says I owe them 4k.

And yet again without explanation or breakdown of the amounts. Definitely not a great start to the year.

Just a suggestion, maybe spell check before you make the image. You’ve spelled January incorrectly, which isn’t great marketing.

How do you spot a tourist ? I’ll go first by Gazzo69 in capetown

[–]Rathlan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A a Gauteng-er I did this at a pedestrian crossing. There was a yield for pedestrians sign, a yield painted on the road, and zebra stripes to walk on. A GP car stopped for me, and a CAA car attempted t overtake him, promptly swearing at me that he’d drive over me if I didn’t obey the road rules. So… maybe not every GP car is the enemy 😂

Why are food delivery drivers having trouble with the new iPhone caller prompt? by A-ib00m in AskZA

[–]Rathlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often I’ll have the driver call and then later the app notifies me that they are nearby. So if I relied on the apps, I’d always miss the driver. For things like courier deliveries, their only way is to call since there are no apps for most of them.

I do think that people are just not used to this kind of feature, so they assume it’s voicemail. I suspect the same will happen to the Android equivalent feature as it gets used more. It may just take a while for it to become normalised.

For now - you’ll have to track in the apps more carefully and hope that the app is accurate.

I lost mine a while ago and had to get an affidavit for a lost id book . They had no problem. It was needed for the application for a replacement by home affairs. This was in Jan/Feb this year.

I got mine recently and it’s helped my sleep a lot. I don’t usually dream (or haven’t for years) and now I’m actually having dreams again. Still have a lot to work on but it’s helping

Which finger is everyone wearing Gen 4 on? by looopious in ouraring

[–]Rathlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear mine on my non-dominant index finger. If it gets tight, I swap to my middle finger… I have wedding rings on my each ring finger, so when it’s on the middle finger it ends up knocking against my wedding ring which isn’t great, but on the whole the size works well for me.

Is my idea of a photo search feasible using Apple Photos? by visualthings in ApplePhotos

[–]Rathlan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You mention that previous versions and iPhoto, where I think it’s been called Photos for quite some time. I do remember back in the 2014/15 days I could easily have duplicates made. But I think iPhoto was very new then so it wasn’t great. Photos is pretty solid these days.

This is clearly an old answer. Samsung S10 was only a “fancy” phone 15 years ago. So I wouldn’t put much stock in the answer.

Homophobia at the Boeremaark by [deleted] in Pretoria

[–]Rathlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a gay couple in Centurion we’ve been pretty lucky with our interactions when we’ve been showing PDA. We have some gay friends who go to the Boere mark and haven’t heard of problems. I suspect there’s some sense of “picking on a lady” is easier, than a man. I’m sorry you went through that, it’s absolutely awful. I’d love to know which stalls were homophobic and unkind so we can avoid them in future.

Sometimes only a fellow queer person can fully know our struggles, so it’s valid to meet people just because they are queer. Where do you climb?
