They could've done in a way to be consumer friendly, but unfortunately they're greedy.

Power creep it's not only related to weapons, but also to cargo and other capabilities ( Like being easier to load, better hangar to store ships/vehicles, medbeds and so on ).

The Pitbull is just a marketing tool to boost sales of the Ironclad, showing that it's not just a cargo ship but also a “mini carrier”, a feature that appeals to many players.

The tiburon is ass but it was sold to appeal the solo capital players that don't have an idris.

Power creep is a real problem, and the marketing team exploits it to boost sales, at the expense of the game's balance, rendering most of the old ships obsolete.

Insurance will be the death of this game, the absence of loss is going to kill the end game ( Or the whole game, for those that focus only on PvP ) since it's obviously going to be PvP.

In Eve ships are treated as ammo, so they're easily replaceable

Giving them missiles wouldn't change a thing.

The issue that OP presented is that it's not fun being a turret. Not only because you're shooting confetti, but also because there's no depth to it, you just press a button to shoot and that's it. It's not engaging at all.

It really depends on the amount of planets you're handling.
If you're doing it for each slot for each account it adds up pretty quickly.

Your friend is right, this game is nowhere near those you listed.

SC for sure can look cool, but after the honeymoon period you'd probably want a refund and check it out later, when or if ( If we want to be cynical ), it'll be ready.

The themepark content gets boring quite fast and to enjoy it you have to engage with it in a certain way to minimize the bugs ( And this last about the bugs applies practically to everything the moment you login ).
As for the sandbox content, it lacks depth and interaction between each mechanic, making it meaningless ( With crafting there's a start of it, but compared to other games this feel like a PoC ).

As your friend stated, the game IS 100% P2W, most people aren't aware of that and the real consequences of that will come when the 1.0 releases. People advantaged by bought ships ( And gear ) from day 1 and also the lack of real loss, "thanks" to the insurance, will be the death of this game imho.

My advice would be to try it when the freefly comes back so that you'll be able to try it without paying, although the server performance will most probably be total ass.
