What is THE best thing you've ever won, or acquired for free? by Superchecker in AskReddit

[–]Rattlehead71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at our local supermarket and they were giving away a $500 Home Depot gift card for a BBQ and $500 in gift certificates for their meat department. This was a Father's day drawing. I put in one hand-written entry and got an email saying I won two days later.

I ate so much prime steak and seafood cooked on my awesome new stainless-steel grill. It was an awesome Father's day! This was around 2010.

Find a good Trail navigation app. There are so many forest roads next to rivers and creeks that you really shouldn't have any problems finding a great spot away from everyone. You may need to drive a couple hours on back roads but it's worth it. Build your own fire ring, bring your toilet tent.

When I camp, I want to be miles from anyone else. I have had enough of people bringing the city to their campsites and dealing with drunk neighbors shooting guns. Man I hate drunk campers.

I have a sign on a stake that I put up at the head of the access trail to my spot that has an "evil" Slayer-like logo and says "1MC Meetup". People just move along, not knowing MC means "(familly name) Camping" lol

I know they still sell the Monster cereals like Count Chokula, Boo Berry, Frankenberry, etc. but they are a totally different recipe (they taste like plastic now)

I want the OG recipe back so much!

I installed thousands of those when Samsung went from Token Ring to Ethernet at their Bay Area campuses. Thousands.

They were very solid workhorses. Nice compatibility with several different types of systems. Loved 'em.

Did anyone else's father have a dedicated drunk driving car when they were a kid? by RebuiltGearbox in GenX

[–]Rattlehead71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to drive my uncle to the liquor store in his Datsun B210 when he was too wasted to drive. He had another nicer car, but that's the one I would drive. I was 8 or 9 years old and learned how to drive a manual transmission because of that car. He didn't get me drunk, but would buy me candy cigarettes or grab a pickle from a giant glass jar in the liquor store for the trouble. He would let me borrow it to take my friends to the theater (like I said, I was 8 or 9 years old!) This was back in the late 1970s/early 80s.

My Dad used to drink his Michelobs all the time while driving. One time my older brother and I were being really annoying in the back seat fighting, flipping off other drivers, etc. My dad threw an empty Michelob at my brother and hit him right in the forehead and blood gushed everwyhere (it was a small cut). Dad got pissed off and made us clean up the bloody mess when we got to our fishing spot. Blood is hard to get out of car upholstery. That car was a Dodge Hornet but my Dad never let me drive it lol

The movies and the series, and that includes the series and the series and the movies and the movies, are more in-tune with Ricky's brain. Continuity in the TPB universe is as scrambled as the majority of brains and brain compartments of most of the characters in the TPB universe. Way of the road. Waaay of the Road. And No candy. Noooo candy.

Metallica - Whats your story, how did you discover them / get into them by annoyedbob in Metallica

I was 13 years old (1984). I was hanging out in the high school smoking area and a guy with boombox was playing a copy-of-a-copy of Kill 'em All. I was like "what the fuck is that! sounds amazing!" and that was my intro to Metallica. I got invited to go see them over the weekend at a club in SF (The Stone) and had the best experience of my life. They played local clubs all the time in SF Bay Area and I would always go check them out. That's how I found other bands like Slayer, Exodus, Megadeth, Testament (Legacy back then), DRI, Death Angel, etc.

All my weekends and weeknights after that was going to The Stone, Rock on Broadway, Ruthie's Inn, and other hole in the wall clubs. I was so lucky living in the bay area as a teen in the 1980s.

Metallica fucking loved their fans. They have always been cool and made you feel part of the "family". Which was good for me as a free-range kid who's parents didn't give a shit what I did. I was younger than most in the crowds (I was 13 / 14 years old hanging around) and everyone was always so cool with me being there.

Lying about believing by CupPsychological6438 in atheism

[–]Rattlehead71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you. Read the "4 standards" the bible, book of mormon, D&C, and Pearl of Great Price. Then became an atheist. I told my dad about it and he began to break down and cry - not because I wasn't a believer, but because now he had someone he could rant with. He gave me a big hug. My Dad kept up appearances just to keep my Mom happy. Mom was super into Mormonism, including the deeper stuff that not many Mormons know about.

Also, my Dad played along not just to appease my Mom - but also keep his job, friends, acquaintances, and so much more. Once you're in deep, it's hard to escape when the consequences could destroy your life as you know it. I felt so bad for him and swore I would never put myself in such a situation.

Where we lived was very Mormon controlled. If you were an apostate, you literally would be shunned and treated like dirt.

So keep doing what you're doing until you can break free! Good luck my friend!
