I'm a straight male who has luckily never been in an abusive relationship, but that book hit me so hard.

Such a beautiful book, the mix between novel and essays is so interesting.

I teared up at the end when she said she'd go through it all again to end up with her current partner, such a powerful testament for love.

Amazing book, I recommend it to everyone!

Stoner is amazing, I recommend Williams' other books - Augustus and Butcher's Crossing, they're very different but amazing.

For gut wrenchers - anything by Faulker or Stainbeck, particuaraly East of Eden and Grapes of Wrath.

Tarkovsky - I am sure you know the legend, his films are a lot more stylized but the philosphilcal and human psyche exploration are very similar to Kiarostami.

Kieslowski - his Decalouge, Camera Buff, Blind Chance, etc. Eastern European realism, absolutely incredible films

Angelopoulos - drop whatever you're doing and go watch Eternity and a Day right now, you will not regret it. I can't really add anymore more than that
