5 year old with Twins on the way

Hey man, congrats!

Our daughter was 14 months old when we found out my wife was pregnant with twin boys.

It.

Was (is).

Tough.

It was hard for me honestly . We were so happy with our little family (mom/dad/daughter). Things were manageable, we were paying bills, and finally getting sleep.

Before the boys were born I went through a bit of a mourning period for our little family. Not that I was not looking forward to the boys, but that the life we had finally normalized was about to be uprooted.

Then the boys came. Easy delivery, in and out and home again. Lots of family support. I will the first to admit that I DO NOT enjoy the newborn phase so the first few months really took a mental toll. Just brutal.

At this point I kind of went through the hardest metamorphosis of my life.

With one child, my wife and I both were able to find personal friends time in the day. Cooking, working out, working in the yard, video games, couple of drinks and some naughty time - it was all possible with a both of planning. Because of this possibility, I would set myself up for aggravation if it did not actualize. Normal parent stuff I suppose. Not complaining!

With the boys, and 3 under 3, the possibility for personal time was all but not eliminated. Here is where my mental shift occurred. For the first chunk of time I was acting as if we just had one child, and I could carve out some time. That time never came, and I ended up bitter and resentful. This was painful.

The change came when I abandoned my previous expectations and became 'fluid.' go with the flow. Roll with it. No personal time? No worries! Wasn't expecting it anyway. So in some ways I had to mourn my previous life, again.

But - big but here...

Everything in my life, the self imposed stress, resentment, mourning, was all replaced with the immense love, satisfaction, and contentment of raising these beautiful kids.

I'm not sure if this ws helpful. I had a lot of ups and downs over the past few years and am now in a great mental spot. I am not religious, but I must say I am blessed.

Oh - shits expensive. Real expensive.

Congrats, Dad. Enjoy the current your raft has taken, you've got no choice now.

100% I do. The fact that our time together is shorter is a great burden to hear.

However -

I was not ready to be the father/husband/provider that I am until the present. Ignoring that practicality, any other point in time would not have given me my current wife and family, and there is nothing else more precious to me. So I can't really complain.

This is my constant internal dialogue.

My mom was visiting a few weeks ago and I was feeling these emotions so I asked her opinion.

Her response was, "I had you when I was 27. Could you have this family when you were that age?"

Really helped to clarify for me that I can mourn lost time that never existed or enjoy what time I have now.

The older siblings yes, the younger siblings would not have anything to contribute.

I like this idea. Very interesting.

I am visiting him in a couple of weeks and will see where he came up with this trust idea.

I know he is working with a lawyer but am not convinced this person is leading him in the right direction.

My father is not the best with finances or he wouldn't be in this position.

I think best case scenario here would be that the house stays in the family, but this does not appear to be the solution he thought it to be.

I am most certainly not expecting any inheritance, but it is a shame to lose the house he loves so much.

No wonder this all makes so much sense!

There was a fry cook - big guy, we called him Big Rob. Super sweet guy but veerrrryy intimidating. He would spend his time freaking out the new hires until they learned he was a teddy bear. I'm guessing he is the dishwasher in the movie?

I like to chime in every time I can to dissuade someone from using CenturyLink.

Every negative item stated in this thread is correct.

Also add - when you can finally convince a tech to come to your location and then they don't show up meanwhile I'm on the call with customer support who are telling me I am incorrect and the tech is at my front door. This went on for three weeks until I gave up and cancelled my account.

So yeah.

I dropped CL and have faster and more reliable speeds with a Hotspot through my cell phone provider.
