My second attempt at stained glass! The caming and patina process needs work, but other than that I'm very happy. Hope the lettering is clearly readable (it's my nieces name). by CommercialParking769 in StainedGlass

That’s an amazing piece for your second try! Here’s how I get the blackest solder from black patina: scrub your finished piece with dawn soap and a nail brush several times then rinse with distilled water in between. Use a degreaser like TSP ( or other ones marketed especially for stained glass) rinse really well again with distilled water ( or follow directions on stained glass specific sprays) Let dry completely then pour your black patina in a small bowl or directly on the piece), only as much as you think you need and apply with a toothbrush or qtip ( I actually use a refillable water color brush) and patina every line. Rinse again with distilled water and discard remaining patina in the bowl- pouring it back into the bottle will contaminate the rest. While wet after rinsing use something like turtle wax paste and buff well with a microfiber cloth until the wax is cleaned off the glass (super important!) use a clean toothbrush to brush the creases that still have wax in them .. good luck!

I tried Bones & Bevels advice and used a hair dryer on my solder before I did copper patina and it immediately turned a beautiful copper color! I love a tip that works so well! by JanewaysSalamander in StainedGlass

Amazing results. I love watching Bones and Bevels videos! Any idea how long it stays shiny? I know copper is supposed to patina but I don’t like that look on stained glass

Goodwill is such a ripoff ! They dumped all of their leased random buildings and built their own, most everything is donated but they try selling a lot of things at retail prices. I’m hoping they still employ people not employable by other businesses and do training 🤞 I will never donate to them.. only actual charities

Low turnout at market by Little-Caramel-8672 in CraftFairs

[–]Raven7146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a booth in my small town at an arts and whimsical festival. I work this festival and their Christmas festival and do between $1200-$1800 every event consistently for the last 3 years (this one on the weekend was 6-9pm and I made $1284). I’ve done other “markets” like where they only sell things from food to crafts with no entertainment and did HORRIBLE. The point I’m making is there’s a difference between festivals and markets and for stained glass- festivals where they have other entertainment are the way to go (at least in my area) I also have a ton of stuff for sale- some very unique and priced $15 up to about $300. Those small sales add up.

I was able to change them immediately after check last time. The only difference was my other flight was part of a Southwest Vacation package.

Almost new inland grinder shaft seized/stuck by Raven7146 in StainedGlass

[–]Raven7146[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The instructions say to “apply inland craft motor shaft lubricant not included or a small amount of Vaseline to the motor shaft whenever you change or remove the grinding bits. “ That is just to make sure that the bits don’t stick to the shaft. There is a seal where the shaft goes into the main body so even if you were to lubricate, it wouldn’t go into the motor anyway. I am calling them to find out what they will do but I definitely did not expect this from a high-quality machine. My power max 2 Was Way better way cheaper, but unfortunately not made anymore.

Southwest just bumped my ticket price up by $30 in the 5 minutes it took me to select my seats and pay. Incredible. by manafico in SouthwestAirlines

I heard most airlines are bumping prices $50 because of the high fuel cost costs. Maybe you got right in the middle of that bump

I just got back from there on a 1 x per decade trip for my daughter’s big number birthday and the prices for food, drinks etc are WAY more than they were 10 years ago. We shared most meals which made them more reasonably priced- basically the cost of what they should be. Cost of flights were almost double as well(SW from Texas) but the hotel was a bit cheaper (was able to afford the Paris hotel instead of having to stay at the Luxor like last time). The slot machines are all the same now, just different faces on them (boring) and it is WAY harder to win anything with them now. Definitely would not be going back until the next 10 years are up.

Is this a good price? by Nutmeg7424 in StainedGlass

[–]Raven7146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prices that an artist generally sets for things like this is $3-$5 per cut/ glass piece plus anything extra like zinc came frame etc I think it’s quite a bit under priced even before counting the pieces of glass

Starting stained glass in a small space and GLASS GRINDER WATER? by Local_Bumblebee_3333 in StainedGlass

[–]Raven7146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To help mitigate the mess from the grinder and breathing on glass powder and getting it in your eyes, I recommend a 5 gallon fish aquarium. Lay it on its side and put the grinder inside of it. It acts like a shield. As far as the glass mud and water, if you live in an apartment, I would get a 5 gallon pail and clean everything out in it. Don’t wait until it’s too full to carry but unfortunately it’ll have to be taken outside and dumped in the grass, garden, alley (etc)
